Thanks avatar_Halichoeres @Halichoeres! It's impressive you managed to get all your copies of those figures!  The Medicom Tullimonstrum too.

Thank you!

In the first post, you've listed your Guanlong as being made by PNSO.  Did you mean to write Favorite as the company?

Ooh, yep, I definitely meant Favorite. I think when I typed that I must have had the PNSO Proceratosaurus in my head. Fairly similar animals. Thanks for the heads up!

So, I guess nobody makes a Titanoboa? That seems like low hanging fruit to me.

Rebor was working on one, but I have no idea if it will ever actually be released. I was about to say that it's only known from vertebrae, but I think it's fairer to say that only its vertebrae have been published on. I found several references to an SVP conference abstract from 2013 that is supposed to be about the anatomy of the head. I haven't been able to find anything peer reviewed, nor any images. If somebody knows more about this, I'd love to hear about it. Until something is published, though, I think any old boa figure is a reasonable stand-in, since we don't really know what Titanoboa looked like.

Thank you so much! That's actually a Cameroceras trentonense by Colorata, although the size estimates in the pamphlet suggests it's based on Endoceras:

Ah! Thank you! Now i can see it better and i also found your Blog Entry. A Very interesting Box. I'll try a Hunt on it and get it here to Germany. A fine collection in the Box. i just saw, that they have Deepsea Fish and Creatures  aswell. I cant even... A fully detailed Architeuthis and Vampyroteuthis, that are not rubbertoys or Fishing bait? uuh.

It makes absolute sense, what you said about the sizes. I just could't see it well on the Pic. I would love to hear whats your Opinion on e.g. the Number of Arms and so on, BUT this is still a Dinosaur Forum and this would be asked a little too much, i guess.

And my written eglish is not that good. Feels like i always have a strange tone in it, because a use much fewer words.

There are actually a few different different Vampyroteuthis figures out there...be warned, once you go into the Japanese figures, it can become habit forming!

avatar_Halichoeres @Halichoeres, how do you work out the scale of your figures?

Great question. Short answer: it varies. When a substantial fraction of the animal is known, I go by total length estimates in Paul's book or similar sources. For the figure measurement I use a tailor's tape measure and run it from snout to tail tip following any curves in the spine (for vertebrates). If something has big neural spines, I'll run it along the surface closest to the centrum rather than along the tips (pelycosaurs, spinosaurs, etc.). When animals are known from scanty remains, I measure known elements. For pterosaurs I almost always use the head because I find wingspan hard to measure precisely. Many more obscure animals (fishes, some therapsids, amphibians, invertebrates, plants) lack good size estimates in popular sources, so I'll go to the original descriptions if I can find them. When I first started collecting, I relied more on popular books and web sites; I'm much more likely to just download a paper now. That means that some early additions to my collection are more inexactly estimated if I haven't revisited them. There are probably a few that are wrong because I used an inflated popular estimate or relied on the scale given by the manufacturer. Hope that helps!

When in doubt, always use the estimate used in a WWD documentary!

Uh, thanks. I'll whip Google later. You never can have too much Cephalopod in your life. A few years ago i had the Idea to make a life sized Dosidicus gigas and wanted to hang it inside my Living room, since my ceiling is 3,2m/10.5 feet. We'll see what the future has to offer.

Here is a better Heterdontosaurus figure for Halicoheres

That's my go-to, that or JP/JW sites. Definitely the most reliable sources.

O @OpalRaptor First of all, welcome to the forum! I haven't seen that figure before. It's far from perfect, but I think I have to agree that it's a better representation of Heterodontosaurus than the Inpro version is. Does it, or the Bayannurosaurus/theropod you showed in another thread, have the name imprinted on it anywhere? And do you know where it can be found? Thanks in advance for any information you can offer!

What do you think about the Collecta Bistahieversor?

I'm surprised it didn't make the cut for best figure. It's a lot easier to find than the Favorite Co version. It took me about 5 minutes to find and order that figure. I've been looking for Favorite Co for weeks and no results. Not to mention it has feathers. And a well rounded color scheme. I call for a relook into the best Bistahieversor!

Honestly I'm not surprised Halichoeres chose the Favorite, Collecta's one has too wide hips, a weird body sharpe and an head sculpt that doesn't match Bistahieversor. Also I think that the availability of a figure is not been considered when chosing the best one. Anyway this is his thread, so I think he'll answer you on the question, I'm just offering my thoughts on Collecta's one.
"Dinosaurs lived sixty five million years ago. What is left of them is fossilized in the rocks, and it is in the rock that real scientists make real discoveries. Now what John Hammond and InGen did at Jurassic Park is create genetically engineered theme park monsters, nothing more and nothing less."

frank08

I like the Collecta one better but if I find the Favorite version then I will get it and see how they compare. It just annoys me how Favorite Co made a blue dinosaur (I would much rather have them repaint it to look like the Collecta one). If it was easier to find, then I would get one and compare it to my Collecta one. If you could tell me how to buy one, then I would greatly appreciate that. I would also like to know where to get the Favorite Co Tarbosaurus. That Tarbosaurus looks even better. But for me, I do consider how available a figure is before getting it. For me it will be hard to top the Collecta Bistahieversor. I like it very much.

avatar_frank08 @frank08 I go to avatar_brettnj @brettnj for Favorite figures.  I got my Favorite Bistahieversor from him and have also ordered the new Favorite Tarbosaurus.
