Cardboard sleeves, eh?  That works, I have a Jurassic Park set that has slots for Jurassic World.
I'm excited for REBOR's Acro!  Can't ya tell?

Viking Spawn

For some reason, I thought the dinosaur figurines were going to be bigger.  Thanks for placing the Papo T-rex for scale reasons.  Are they made out of a polystone or pvc material?

Meso-Cenozoic

Got my special gift set too! I snagged it when it finally went below $70. (Which BTW, it's still at $69.99 right now for those who are still contemplating getting it.) I haven't taken the figures out yet, but to me they look like a pretty nice size, actually a little bigger than I thought they'd be. Scale-wise, I'm guessing somewhere between 1:40 and 1:45 maybe? To me, Rexy looks fairly comparable to the 10th Anniversary T. rex by Carnegie, which is suppose to be around 1:40. He does look a little smaller than Papo's. But aren't they a little bigger than 1:40? Anyway, just judging by the outside packaging and looking in, I think the design in whole is very sleek and quite attractive. Too bad to find out they can't be removed from their bases. But as is, they do make for a nice little diorama. :)

I also splurged and finally got the Trilogy's Special Blu-ray Gift Set with Rexy. I figured since I hadn't purchased any JW toys or memorabilia, I could call it any early Xmas present. That whole packaging is also pretty impressive and very large! Rexy's not as nice as the new one, but he's still better than any of the toys that came out this year. ;) Hehe!

BTW, what's the Walmart exclusive like? Is it the one with all four movies I saw on their site or something else? I couldn't find anything that said "exclusive".

The exclusive comes with a collectible metal lunch box.  Unfortunately mine wont be here until tomorrow or so. :(

Mine came in and the figures are better than expected. They have a waxy Schleich-like feel to them, but that isn't really a complaint. The negatives, however, are that they do not detach from their bases and do not fit on any of my shelves (though the latter is a problem on my end  ;) ). It is nice that they are magnetized and would make great bookends, though I don't even have space on my bookshelf for the agate bookends I already have.
The DVD case is cool, too. I like it, being streamlined, metal, and futuristic. I would have preferred plastic casings instead of card for the DVD's themselves, but they're going to be in the metal case anyway so that isn't much of an issue.

Those figures are actually really good! The best ones in the entire JW franchise I think. Does anyone know if this set will be available in Europe?

I was totally ready to trash Rexy's figure, I just had a feeling they'd screw her up...but nope!  She looks great love that she has scars.  Only complaint is that mine is missing her pupil in her left eye.

Quick fix for that. Get some paint that's safe for the figure, get a toothpick, and dip the tip of the toothpick into the paint and very carefully dot her eye. ;)

I got the normal Blu-ray last night and re-watched it with my husband.  :)  Gotta say, the movie seemed shorter the second time around?  Maybe because I already knew everything that was coming.  The Apatosaurus scene in particular seemed shorter than I remembered.  Also, our disc skipped during the Pteranodon attack scene (turned out to be dust in our player); the brutal death scene for Zara was completely skipped and we thought at first that maybe they cut it out from the home release? haha  Of course, it was there when we searched for it later.

I got my Walmart exclusive lunchbox in the mail yasterday and omg it's so cool! It's not a cheap little tin lunchbox either. I was surprised! It's really nice! It's embossed on both sides and looks amazing. If anyone gets the chance I really recommend picking it up, the lunchbox looks great on the shelf.
Also did anyone know that Bestbuy is selling all of the Jurassic Park films in round tins as well?

Regarding the claims and debates about the JW Mosasaurus size, the various official posters and the accompanying book indicates it is 22 m long and 15 tonnes (although the official website lists it at 18 m, and that the making of the movie shows the initial artworks indicating a size of 55 feet).

So it is indeed oversized but certainly not as much as some suggested, we're still very far from the Godzilla-like proportions some suggested.

Usually I don't appreciate too much oversizing even in fiction but in some way I think it's simply a Mosasaurus scaled at the length of the giant ichthyosaurus Shastasaurus sikanniensis or a large Basilosaurus (Cenozoic archeocete). The body mass of 15 tonnes is large but some liberal estimates of maximum weight of Mosasaurus even exceed this.

Weight wise it's still in the realm of the realism, unlike the infamous overinflated body weight estimates of Liopleurodon back in some 1999 program...

As for the comparison between the movie Mosasaurus with the Indominus rex in the climax, I have made this scaling at 18 m of a Tylosaurus skeletal reconstruction compared with the Tyrannosaurus specimen "Sue" (courtesy of Scott Hartman) .  You can see the discrepancy is remarkably similar to what is seen in the movie and keep in mind Mosasaurus was apparently more robustly built than Tylosaurus.

Also, never forget the perspective. Basically yes the Mosasaurus specimen is oversized (among other things) but not THAT oversized.

stargatedalek

I can confidently claim that the Mosasaurus is among the more accurate of any Jurassic Park "dinosaur".

LophoLeeVT

i agree with the mosasaur
p.s. do you know why raptors keep changing their skin colors in the franchise?

Your slightly scaled up tylosaurus looks about the size of the one that ate indominus in the end of the movie.  But I thought the claims it was approaching kaiju size came from the mosasaur eating a great white shot in the trailer.  That little baby great white must have been only 5 feet long.

I decided to get the lunch box as well and I agree, it's really nice. I might actually use it! But probably not, gotta keep it in good shape.

I decided against getting the model gift set. Although it is admittedly nice I didn't care for the packaging of the movie itself. Taking that into account I also didn't want to sink $70-80 on the models. For that price there are a thousand other models I would rather own, including some of the old Kenner JP toys. I might regret it later, lol.

Perspective. The white shark can be 2.5-3 m long.

On a scientific ground, 6 m white sharks are extremely old so it is obviously not the case here, especially keeping in mind the official size of the critter.

Viking Spawn

In regards to this discussion, i found this scale image a few months ago.

This is just for fun.   :P

An even cheaper solution was a quick prick with a Sharpie! lol

It was nervewracking though, I don't have the steadiest hands in the world. :P

Loxodon

The Mosasaur was quite clearly blue whale sized. When it ate the Indominus, it's jaws were pretty much as big as the I. rex(god I hate that name) itself.

Nope, the skull is more like around 3 m or a bit more, it is definitely not as large as the Indominus.

22 m is a goot match and is official anyway. Add a bit of perspective and you're good.
