In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.

It wasn't just Mammut Borsoni and Palaeoxodon. According to Prothero's (2013) Rhinoceros Giants, the largest Mammoths and Deinotheres would have rivalled or equalled Paraceratherium in terms of body mass.

Then again, it depends on what we are measuring. Paraceratherium with its outstretched neck might still lay claim to being the tallest land mammal while Proboscideans laid claim to being the most massive land mammal.

The paper on proboscidean sizes has been released in its final form:

According to the findings, Paleaoloxodon namidicus bulls grew up to five tons heavier and 40 cm taller at the shoulder than Paraceratherium.
