Was "Tully Monster" a chordate?

The famous "Tully Monster" (Tullimonstrum) from the Carboniferous of the Midwest US appears to have been a thoroughgoing chordate, more specifically a super-weird stem lamprey.

In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.

That is a cool article--and another weird moment in paleohistory!

Also went to the link demonsrating that the Kaiyodo Hallucigenia is wrong, while the Tedco could...have gone either way.

Gwangi

Very cool, it makes you wonder what forms would have evolved from this form if it hadn't died out. Also, I wouldn't mind having a figure of the Tully monster.

There's a really, really, really, really rare Japanese figure of one frmo Medicom (I think)--a chase figure form a mystery set, labelled as a 'baby nessie' because crypto people are unique.

I have only seen one for sale once in YAJ. It was very expensive then.

Gwangi

Of course it's rare and expensive.  8) But I knew that if anyone knew if one existed it would be you. I feel like I saw one on eBay years ago, not sure if it was this one or what, it was expensive though.

Halichoeres

Ha, so there's been a standalone lamprey figure after all, only nobody knew it at the time. Maybe now that it's getting press again somebody will make another one.

Here's an easier, less expensive way to get a Tullimonstrum. I've got several of his figures and recommend his work highly.

That's is interesting stuff about it being a chordate. Thanks for the post.

SBell, who made the lamprey in the photo? Is it available to purchase?

That was me being a tease--I have started developing my own line of (mostly) freshwater (mostly kind of primitive, soon to include prehistoric) fishes through my store (January was the launch of the first 3--Polypterus senegalus, Protopterus annectens and Pantodon buchholzi). That is the first photo I have received form the sculptor for those three fish--and when they are available, they will be sold through my online store. Including, yes, the lamprey. I would think it will still be a few weeks before the first run is complete and ready to go.

Now...I could almost justify adding Tullimonstrum to the (ever-expanding) list!

Thanks for the info, SBell. A conodont would be welcome too.

I'm working mostly from 'fish', mainly modern. But yeah, that did occur to me as well! But first, a modern lamprey!

I knew a couple people here had it--the phot I found is likely from a member here that has one! But I couldn't figure out who.

Thanks for the heads up! I might have to secure one of those.

@SBell: those look very tempting.

I know! And it's not like amiids don't belong in prehistoric collections from the Cretaceous on!

I would go for an Etsy Tullimonstrum at some point if there were a mini...just less space that way!

Hi friends. I show you the last figure that I have made with the ne concept of these species  ^-^.

[Off Nick and Eddie's reactions to the dinosaurs] Oh yeah "Ooh, aah", that's how it always starts. But then there's running and screaming.

{about the T-Rex) When he sees us with his kid isn't he gonna be like "you"!?
