The thing is that target audience doesn't excuse any of what they're doing. If anything the fact they're marketed towards unassuming consumers who buy the first dinosaur they see only makes their lack of research, fraudulent claims of educational value, and pushy business practices that much worse.

I don't think anybody was trying to excuse them, merely explain. They've clearly prioritized marketing and merchandising efforts over accuracy efforts, and it seems like they're raking it in as a result. Any time someone makes a mistake that puts money in their pocket, expect them to make it again and again.

I know, I know, Schleich will always be Schleich and most of these are still horrific. I do appreciate, however, that the Brachiosaurus has proper Sauropod feet, even if it's otherwise... average. ???

I might actually pick up the Stegosaurus through a third party, I don't really want to support the company. It kind of looks like someone's been sick on it, but nothing an evening with the acrylics can't fix.

I'd like to point out that none of the above mean that I don't wholeheartedly agree with everyone who has said that they could obviously do way, way better, especially as these are toys that children will be playing with and which will shape the way they view dinosaurs.

Scleich never really tried to justify their awkward dinos. At least Rebor fares better in that regard, since they are aware that they cater too to the "awesomebro" crowd. I'd say Schleich has the "that will do" mentality when it comes to their dinos.

CityRaptor

Which makes it worse since they claim to be educational.  They also claimed that Replica Saurus was made in conjunction with the Natural History Museum in Berlin, which raises further questions.
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

I agree. I find it sad that a company making an 'educational' toy line can't be bothered to put much effort into its products.

Well, given the standard of the models in the shop last time I visited the London NHM, I don't think 'museum approved' mean all that much anymore. :(

Apparently, yes. Also "paleontologist-approved", especially when the guy in question (Stefano Piccini) owns the company (Geoworld).

Amazingly many terms used in industry mean little or nothing and are simply used to impress customers. When I worked in the poultry industry many of the supermarkets had a name for their product which implied or conjured images of high welfare but which in fact meant nothing. It was just a simple marketing ploy!

*Mods: please let us have a new for 2017 section. thank you*

I think takama updated the dinosaurs pics, now have better resolutions. @Takama: Where did you find those pics?

sauroid

the Allosaurus' teeth tho. revolting. if they can make the figures' claws pointed why cant they make the teeth that way too?

It looks like it has balls of white chocolate stuck on all of its teeth. Gross. Maybe this is why those other two Schleich allos kept their mouths shut.  :))

it would have been better if they make their carnivores with no jaw articulation. that way at least they can manage to make the teeth appear sharp.

Yes, but Papo and Bullyland have articulation, too. So Schleich of course needs it, too. Some people even seem to act as if they invented it, praising them for it. ( They however tend to ignore Papo and Bullyland instead of bashing them )

yes, and the fact that Papo make articulated jaws with sharp teeth is just making me dislike Schleich even more lol.

And the act that they even went, from the process of tuning the green rex into the brown rex, resculpting the head and jaws and making the teeth more accurate and sharper.
So much effort!

Silvanusaurus

I almost feel as though that Allosaurus would seem more authentic if it were sold as a diseased Kangaroo.

At first I thought this comment sounded harsh, until I saw the picture for myself...  :-X

Well, at least they put the eye crests where they belong on this one...
