The "best of the best" for the last, eh?

Well I must say that the final product did not live up to my expectations :(

Please do not kill me  ;D

It´s not that is that they are not good, it is the fact that they dont really interest me a lot.

The Dimorphodon looks fantastic, but since I like my collection in scale I am not into big figures of smaller animals. I like it but I don´t think it has a place in my collection.
I don´t collect mammals, so who cares about the Uintatherium. :(
The new toob is nice and it has some interesting creatures. In fact I have been thinking of getting them if I can, but they are not a priority. I must say though i would like to see big version of some of the creatures, like Xiphactinus and Leedichthys.

Not a bad year for Collecta I must say, but I was hopping for something different since they promised us "The best of the best" for the final reveal.

Even if only the marine set and Dimorphodon are on my list for this year I still consider it a great year from CollectA, and that's excluding the modern animals. I've also been putting off the CollectA from last year I wanted until this years lot came out, so that adds the Tyrannosaurus corpse and quite a few more modern animals.

I for one love when smaller extinct animals get made in "large" (as in anywhere from 1:20th - 3:1) scales because they display well with modern animals. Not many of my favored animals (which essentially means anything that's not a mammal) come in 1:30th-1:50th scale to go alongside a tyrannosaur or sauropod, but a 1:2 scale Dimorphodon? Absolutely perfect fit alongside everything from scorpions to songbirds.

Well, I agree with you. I'm just not really interested in these. The only one I'd like to have in my collection is Uintatherium, but to be honest I had never heard of it before... :-[

CMIPalaeo

Whoa! A nice way to finish up the year to be sure. The Dimorphodon is a beauty, and I think the paint job looks awesome! You can really appreciate how bobble-headed this animal was. The Uintatherium looks really great too, and it's nice to see one posed actively and not just with rhino skin.

Here's my breakdown of CollectA's releases this year.

Definitely going after
- Regaliceratops
- Gigantspinosaurus
- Uintatherium

Decent chance I'll get them
- Dimorphodon
- Styracosaurus
- Excalibosaurus
- Basilosaurus
Once a man is tired of dinosaurs, he is tired of life; for there is in a dinosaur all that life can afford.

Jose S.M.

The only ones that I'm getting asap are Regaliceratops and Gigantspinosaurus. I'm debating on Styracosaurus. But I'm getting close to the goal I set before starting with non dinosaurs so the marine reptiles and mammals are exciting to me too. Very varied offers from CollectA, I applaud that.

My opinions with respect to the other members of the forum.

The dimorphodon sincerely I see better the Safari or Rebor (with all its flaws), that does not mean I will buy it in his day, I am a collector, but honestly is too big, and would have preferred and ptedodaustro, dsungaripterus Or pterodactylus for putting examples of dark figures. The colors do not convince and said the articulated jaws hate them.

The uintatherium has been claiming it for a decade and a half and honestly I do not dislike it is based on modern paleoartists like Raul Martin to put an example (although with other colors). That is a mixture of rhinoceros and hippopotamus.

On the other hand the mini toob of prehistoric creatures is lovely although I would have liked a xiphactinus, archelon, leedsichthys or dunkleosteus (preferable without articulated jaw thing that I see difficult unfortunately) deluxe range, but less is nothing.

On the other hand unfortunately the members of the forum were mistaken from side to side in terms of their predictions, I would have liked an arctodus simus or a yi qi deluxe supreme rank. I also thought they would make a giganotosaurus and an apatosaurus or diplodocus.

I would also have preferred a moa or a dodo to give two examples.

On the other hand this year has been very poor on the part of Collecta in terms of the number of its figures, that have done at least four deluxe figures a deluxe supreme and another size XL.

I was expecting something more from Collecta to deceive me and deceive you.

ItsTwentyBelow

Good stuff, good stuff.

I want all the 2017 releases, except for the Deinocheirus (it's the base). I wonder if the general lack of theropod figures this year is due to Collecta not having the best solution for bipedal poses. Maybe they realized that those awful bases really aren't an attractive way to do it?

So happy to see another Supreme entry. What an impressive model the Guidraco is, in person. That Dimorphodon will look awesome next to it! Helps me to make a decision too. I've been waffling over getting the Rebor Dimorphodon pair for a year now, but the slightly crude sculpting and shiny, glossy finish on them has kept me at bay, as well as the price. This new Dimorphodon looks to be more accurate and it will probably be at least $20 less expensive than the Rebor set, plus articulated jaw, too! This is where my Dimorphodon space and money will go :)

The Uintatherium is a welcome addition as well. And that toob...oh yeah!

That toob is a must have.
The uintatherium and dimorphodon are decent, but I was never fond of CollectA's big models.
My selection will be:
Einiosaurus
Regaliceratops
Excalibosaurus

I haven't picked up any of the previous ones either...lack of availability when i had spare  funds was the real issue.  :/

I hadn't considered you could treat it as that scale with other similar sized replicas really..thats a great idea. l   I'm getting them for the Park here, as the material does hold up well outdoors thus far.  I may modify one into a flying version. ..so now i need 4  lol

A Deluxe Moa will made my dream come true. And I'd love to see a Dodo family diorama.

I'm not tempted by the Dimorphodon (The Rebor pair are better for me).
But I must get the uintatherium and the marine toob.
In fact, any time I see the mini uinta, I buy it.

Sobreviviendo a la extinción!!!

Lanthanotus

I immidiatly bought the rebor Dimorphodons when they were available here and I like them both despite their flaws,... and I always refrained from buying the CollectA Guidraco because of its incredible size (saw it in person in the only shop that I know has other dino toys than Schleich),.... but that Deluxe Dimorphodon is awesome and a definite must buy for me. I may repaint it (as most of my CollectAs) but from what I see in the pictures that model got all the things right that Rebor got wrong, namely the shrink wrapped head, non stereoscopic vision, blunt claws of uniform size. Another great year for CollectA collectors :)

I don't think CollectA referred to a 'best of the best'. They called it a Grand Finale.

That's a different thing entirely.

suspsy

FWIW, in my recent correspondence with CollectA, they did indeed describe this final release as the best, which I interpreted to mean the best out of the 2017 assortment. And between the mini tube, the Uintatherium, and the Dimorphodon, I agree with that description wholeheartedly. :D

AcroSauroTaurus

My opinions.

Dimorphodon: looks great, I love the sculpt. The colors are ok, but I wish they would've added some brighter color to either the head or tail "rudder".

Uintatherium: Pretty cool looking, and a lot of large land mammals are browns and greys, so the colors are fine to me.

Toob: I like the choice of species, and they look pretty good. Some more for the unique species list I assume?
I am the Dinosaur King!

Halichoeres

Funny that the trilobite is Olenoides. Until this year the only Olenoides was the one from the ROM Primeval Predators set, and by this time next year there will be 4 (Favorite, Colorata, CollectA). I am really happy to see this year add some balance to CollectA's offerings. Up until now it was:

Paleozoic: nothing
Mesozoic: 100% diapsids
Cenozoic: almost 100% synapsids, the only exception being Kelenken

Only the mini tube really breaks that pattern, but it is still a very welcome break.
In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.

I for one am a little tired of seeing so many Olenoides...
There are plenty more interesting species of trilobite that can be made

Uintatherium, finally! so happy to see a really good model of this classic Eocene beast that isnt some ancient fragile toy(the otherwise lovely Starlux)  Marx knockoff or fugly Geoworld thing. :))

the dimorpho is cute! I wish theyd make a smaller version of it! I only have the Tedco one b/c I like my little pterosaurs to be little figures.   O:-)

QuoteOn the other hand this year has been very poor on the part of Collecta in terms of the number of its figures, that have done at least four deluxe figures a deluxe supreme and another size XL.

I read on STS that there will be less wild animal models next year as well, possibly due to the Reeves buyout. Apparently Reeves wants to focus more on horses and domestic animals. :(

Roselaar

Yes, another Supreme figure! It looks lovely!

I'll definitely buy all of Collecta's prehistoric products this year. This is one company we need to keep funding. They're definitely the most daring, the most inspired and the most diverse at this point.

Concavenator

It looks as they will all be promising. My favorites are the Deluxes,lf course. The Styracosaurus,Deinocheirus and the Supreme Dimorphodon are all awesome.

I still think it's too early to say whether or not Reeves spells the end of CollectA prehistoric figures.
