SPINOSAURUS SCULPT WIP





Genus represented: Spinosaurus.
Material used: Glue, Foil paper, white Kraft paper and dark orange cellophane.
Status: ready to be painted!

After making the Diplocaulus, I wanted to try to "sculpt" (if this is the right word to use) another dinosaur with this technique. Two weeks ago I made a 1:1 scale Epidexipterix (which I'll soon post on this thread) and some days ago I started making a Spinosaurus, that I've finished yesterday.

When I was making the Epidexipterix I realized that tissue paper wasn't the best for making this tipe of works, so I searched between the papers I use for folding origami models and I found some gigantic sheets of white Kraft paper; which, being stronger and more resistant than tissue paper, is the ideal for paper "sculptures".
It still was an hard work to complete both models, especially the Spinosaurus which being a really huge figure (it's long more and less as the PNSO Euelophus) was also difficult to handle it. Plus, I decided to use some small balls of crumpled orange cellophane to make the eyes, which gave to it a realistic look.
The most difficult thing to do was adding the teeth to the model. I tried to make them more similar to the skeletal reconstructions I could, but I can't say that the result has been successful.

It's proportions will be surely incorrect, but I personally don't care about that. I'm happy of the result I obtained!
I was thinking of painting it of the same color scheme than the Spinosaurus of the painting that you can see in the first post of this thread.

What do you think about this Spinosaurus? Do you like it? As always, any opinions of any type are more than appreciated!

SPINOSAURUS SCULPTURE

Yesterday I started to paint all the "paper sculpts" that I made in the last month. I finished the Spinosaurus and the figure at the end of this post, and I also started the Epidexipterix, that I'll finish in the next days (I still have to start the Diplocaulus).

I'm really really happy with the result I obtained!  I'd been surprised to discover that it was really simple to paint my sculpts, because for some reason I thought that were harder to paint than plastic figures. Plus, the paint dried really fast! And the color scheme suits incredibly well to it! The model is a lot better in life than in the photos.

The other sculpt i completed is not a dinosaur: it is a model bird, the Blue Footed Booby!



Genus represented: Blue Footed Booby (Sula Nebouxii).
Material used: Glue, Foil paper, white Kraft paper, yellow tissue paper (for the eyes) and acrylic paint.
Status: completed!

It was a really easy work to "sculpt", which I ended in just 2-3 hours!
I'm really proud of it!

Yes, I really had a lot of fun making those figures. I started making them because I wanted to make some figures that shows perfectly my "idea" of the animals represented, and I bought a lot of satisfaction from this experience!
I'll surely continue to "sculpt", and my current plans are a Red Footed Booby (I really like Boobies!) and a Tanystropheus.

Yesterday I finally had the time to finish to paint some of my other paper sculptures. Now the Epidexipterix and the red Footed Booby are complete! I've also started to paint the Diplocaulus, which its still a WIP.

Genus represented: Epidexipteryx Hui
Scale: life size (1:1)
Material used: Glue, Foil paper, white Kraft paper, White tissue paper, sintetic material (tail feathers), dark orange cellophane and acrylic paint.
Status: completed!

This was my second paper sculpture. I've completed the sculpt in 3-4 days, and I've painted it in 2 days. I'm really proud of it!
From when I discovered this genus, I always wanted to sculpt one.
I had the opportunity to make it when I saw in a supermarket an Easter decoration that had also 4 feathers made of a sintetic material, so I bought it and I used the feathers for make the structure of the sculpt along with the alluminium foil and the tissue paper. Then, after completing the sculpture, I decided the color scheme and I've painted it.
As you can see, I added to it bat wings following the theory that it had them. I searched images of an Epidexipterix with bat wings and I'd found one where it haves the wing attached only at the two lower digits, so that's why I chosen to follow that idea.

And here's the Red Footed Booby!

After seeing this sculpt and his blue footed companion, someone can may think that boobies are among my favorite animals. And he/she's right!
As for the Blue Booby, it was a really easy animal to sculpt. And I really really love how it turned out! It almost reached the perfection, for me!

The pens are made of a sintetic material, and they are that "plastic feathers" that I've talked about my post. At the touch they look like real feathers!
