Eofauna

Dear all,

We are Eofauna, a company focused on prehistoric fauna. We have a wide knowledge in biology and paleontology. Among our products and contributions stand out the animated 3D models, sculptures, illustrations, dinosaur books and scientific publications.

In this moment we are the exploring the possibility to perform PVC scale models (1:40) of prehistoric fauna. We would like to know the preferences and the wishes of the dinosaur fans. Thus, what could be better to ask you, dinosaur toy collectors. We would be very glad if you could take 5 minutes to fill the following form. Your opinion is very important for us.

Thanks in advance!

I've seen your mammal sculptures and they are absolutely beautiful!
Can't wait to see what you guys decide to make.  ^-^

Eofauna

We will do our best to please you needs.

This is interesting! Really awesome that you ask the opinion of collectors, wish more companies would do that! :)

Welcome to the forum Eofauna.
I didn't know your website.
Your Mastodon, Deinotherium and Dodo statue are great.
Unfortunately they are out of stock.
Just a question: are these finished models discontinued or is it possible to order them in the future?
I could be interested in buying them.
Best Regards.

sauroid

just submitted my questionnaire answers
"you know you have a lot of prehistoric figures if you have at least twenty items per page of the prehistoric/dinosaur section on ebay." - anon.

Eofauna

Many thanks for your interest and words.

Unfortunately these models are finished and discontinued. So, we are know exploring new ways to re-do some of them in much cheaper materials for the collectors.

Regards,

Done. As I noted in my form, I'd really like to see Arctotherium and Megatherium.

among my request are Elasmotherium, Estemmenosuchus and Rubeosaurus. they badly need plastic figure representation.

Estemmenosuchus is a must. Must... need... the Crowned Croc...
The current ones available are either expensive model kits or the JP one.

Welcome, Eofauna! It's very cool of you folks to ask for our opinions. As I noted on the questionnaire, I'm in favor of smaller animals rendered at a larger scale. But regardless of what scale(s) you decide to work in, it'll be great to have another talented group working on PVC prehistorics  :D

Welcome to the forum, Eofauna.  It's nice of you to ask what would be of interest, thanks!

As I mentioned in the questionnaire, one of the animals I'd be particularly interested in is Saurornithoides.  Troodontids are very neglected when it comes to making plastic dinosaur figures, and it would be great to have a nice figure of Saurornithoides!

Filled and submitted, but if it's okay I'd like to add some additional remarks.

R/E questions 1 & 2: I like my models to be accurate to what we know from the fossils, but I think it's important to try and reconstruct extinct species as living animals by thinking about where muscle and fat would have gone, and where it would have obscured the features of the skeleton. In other words, I'm no fan of 'shrink-wrapped' reconstructions. Having said which, I also like a figure that I find pleasing o look at, but of course different people have different tastes, so a figure's aesthetics are more subjective.

3: Yes, because it would be a nice touch f we know of pathological specimens. They don't have to be on every single figure, though.

4: I prefer a larger scale for smaller animals, but I know I'd feel differently if I was trying to make a diorama. Why not do both if it is feasible?

7: I've said more obscure species, but personally I'm also a huge fan of (accurate) Velociraptor, and prefer to collect species that are known from relatively complete remains as the reconstruction is more likely to stay fairly accurate (look at Deinocheirus...). So why not a mixture? For example, you could do both a Tyrannosaurus and a Laellynasaura.

9: I think the only reason Pterosaurs are my least favourite is that so many of the ones on the market are rather outdated reconstructions, and to be honest I find them a little creepy. I'd like to see more birds, as they dinosaurs too, after all. Proboscideans and Felids are both groups I really like, but personally I'd prefer to see other mammal groups, especially as most of the prehistoric mammal toys available are from the Quaternary. There were some really unique species in the Tertiary, like creodonts, pantodonts, and the terrestrial ancestors of whales, and yet we hardly ever see them! I'd also like to see non-Felid carnivorans like dogs, mustelids and hyenas, and it would be really cool to throw some invertebrates, amphibians and stem tetrapods (like Tiktaalik) in there as well.

On an additional note personally I am not a fan of permanent bases on plastic figures, but I know that a lot of users on this forum would disagree on that. Myself I prefer a toy that needs balance, portrays a flying or swimming animal or is in a dynamic pose (e.g. a theropod jumping or with one leg lifted) to have a base it can be detached from/reattached to as required.

I hope that n detailing all this I have not come across as pedantic or fussy, but I thought the input might be useful. If the line goes ahead, I look forward to seeing what it produces. Finally, welcome to the forum!

You're right, Sim, and I completely neglected to mention that on my form. Personally I'd love to see Sinornithoides or Zanabazar. Staying with Coelurosauria, it would also be nice to see Compsognathidae getting some love.
