Tiktaalik – one of the latest models from Paleozoo.





Tiktaalik is an extinct sarcopterygian 'fishapod' which evolved during the late Devonian period (375 mya).  It is regarded as an
important transitional lifeform, with an anatomy that displays a number of features that indicate a clear linkage between fish and
tetrapoda (land vertebrates). These anatomical features point to how life may have moved from water onto land. Tiktaalik is
thought to have been among the first vertebrates to cross this margin.

Tiktaalik is a perfect example of transitional anatomy and speculation on its existence led to it being discovered on Ellesmere Island
by Prof. Neil Shubin and his team in 2004. Feedback on the build of this model has kindly been given by Prof. Neil Shubin.

And what material is tiktaalik made of? If it is made of PVC or vinyl I would be interested to know where this beauty can be located.

I'm fairly certain they made of resin or sandstone, and can only be purchased from their own namesake website.

Stargatedalek is correct. It's printed in "sandstone," which enables it to be printed directly in color. So it comes out in full color, rather than being painted. And paleozoo.com.au is currently the only place to buy it.

But ordering direct has not been an issue; and I've got more than a few of his creations.  Excellent experience all around; it almost restores my faith in the InterWeb.

That explains why they are so detailed. As a good resin product other than Favorite (some figures) must cost a capital.

It's made of gypsum [CaSO4·2H2O], probably alabaster gypsum.
