"We will definitely take back this 'Planet'."

QuoteThe last summer of the 20th Century. That day, the human beings learn that they are not the only ruler of the planet Earth.

The appearance of the giant living creatures "Kaijus" and the ultimate existence that destroys all monsters: Godzilla. Through the battle against kaiju's that lasted for half a century, human beings has experienced continuous defeat, and finally plans to escape from the Earth. And in 2048, only those who were selected by the A.I. managed under the central government boarded the inter-sidereal emigrant spaceship "Aratrum" to head for "Tau Cetus e", the planet beyond the distance of 11.9 light-year. However, the environmental condition differences between that of the Earth and Tau e, which they finally arrived after 20 years were far beyond the predicted numbers, and was not an environment considered to be habitable by human beings.

The young man on the emigrant ship: Haruo, who saw his parents killed by Godzilla in front of his eyes when he was 4 years old, had only one thing in his mind for 20 years: to return to the Earth and defeat Godzilla. Shut out from the possibility of emigration, as the living environment in the ship deteriorates, the group of "Earth Returnists" led by Haruo became the majority, and determines to head back to Earth through a dangerous long-distance hyperspace navigation. However, the Earth they have returned has already passed the time of 20,000 years, and has become an unknown world with the ecosystem reigned by Godzilla.

At the end, will human beings win back the Earth? And what will Haruo see beyond his fate?

Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Has a Godzilla anime been done before? I don't even watch anime, I'm just asking because considering it is Japanese I wonder.

CityRaptor

Well, ther was this: http://godzilla.wikia.com/wiki/Adventure!_Godzilland
And the special where Shin Gozilla meets Shin Chan, but no serious anime so far.

The concept is very intriguing but I'm not a fan of Anime. I'm most interested to see what Godzilla looks like in this.

Loon

Looks neat, I just hope it doesn't suffer from some of the more ehhhhh anime tropes...But, I don't know a ton about modern anime, so I can't say. At least, with it being an anime, the animation would probably be more fluid than a lot of western stuff. I do wonder what monsters would be in it? Classics ones would be nice, but I would like to maybe see some new creatures, to make this really its own thing.

SpartanSquat

I really love the idea of a future ruled by the Titanofauna, but I really hate that anime cliche about a boy in vengance for his parents death. I hope this time Bagan will appear!

Neosodon

I'll probably watch it some day because anime is free. I prefer films, but why waste money on movie rentals and Netflix accounts when you could be buying dinosaurs. :D

"3,000 km to the south, the massive comet crashes into Earth. The light from the impact fades in silence. Then the shock waves arrive. Next comes the blast front. Finally a rain of molten rock starts to fall out of the darkening sky - this is the end of the age of the dinosaurs. The Comet struck the Gulf of Mexico with the force of 10 billion Hiroshima bombs. And with the catastrophic climate changes that followed 65% of all life died out. It took millions of years for the earth to recover but when it did the giant dinosaurs were gone - never to return." - WWD

Seems like they are planning a trilogy. Also a look at the characters, well humans and aliens ( not that one could tell with the latter ) :

My thoughts exactly. I don't even own a tv.

Two TV animes had made by America, <Godzilla>1978 and <Godzilla the series>1999. This is the first time the Godzilla anime become a Theatrical Edition movie.

Mirroraptor

OK, in fact I don't really expect this anime movie. The producers show a lot of concept arts such as landscape, spaceship, robots even character set, but no Godzilla. Why no Godzilla or other monsters? It's a Godzilla movie!
But still something intersting is the background stories. It seems like a Showa Godzilla movie style such as Destroy All Monsters, different monsters appear in different places, some old Showa characters will come back. Kamacuras, Hedorah, Anguirus, Rodan, and some other monsters from Heisei Mothra movies. X-human and Zone fighter also will come back, but with a quite different style(maybe just a zone-fighter in name only).

CrypticPrism

This will give me a great excuse to get back into anime. SAO ending was too hard for me.

Probably not going to watch it if it's in Japanese, but I can respect the effort put into it.

What's up with the last two Godzilla designs featuring red highlights? Godzilla has almost always been black and light blue, why would they change that? Also, it bugs me that they didn't change his roar at all. Seems lazy.
like a bantha!

stargatedalek

Wasn't expecting the 3D style. I don't hate it by any means, it can definitely work as we've seen RWBY, Ajin and even KanColle showed, but still caught me off guard.

SpartanSquat

I really like the design: Its a mix of the Monsterverse Godzilla with Heisei touches like the plates. Yeah Im agree with you @alexeratops, why they didnt change the roar? Most of Godzillas has a new roar. Well except Shin Gojira.
I read the second and third movie of this trilogy will be release the next year. Maybe its for Toho contract to dont release 2 Godzilla movies the same year. And 2019 and 2020 we are going to have 2 westen gofzilla movies.

CityRaptor

We don't know if this will be the final roar. Chances are they might change it till release.

It's CGI? That sucks, but it doesn't look as bad as Berserk. I'll probably watch it when it comes out, but i've never really been a fan of action anime so there is no guarantee i'm going to enjoy it.

Silvanusaurus

I dont see the point in changing the roar again, the roar from the original movie (1954) is easily the scariest and most impactful there has ever been. One of the things that let the 2014 film down was the limpness of the 'updated' roar.
As much as I love Godzilla, and really like the concept of this show, that digital anime style and the Godzilla design itself are really not my cup of tea. I'm quite dissapointed that they just took the 2014 American design and covered it in brittle toffee.
