It's fun seeing them built up. I'm curious, do you do anything to cover the seams?
We are accustomed to look upon the shackled form of a conquered monster, but there - there you could look at a thing monstrous and free." - King Kong, 2005

Painting will do that.
mean while - I like to keep the 'kit looks'  -  god forbid someone tempts thinking these are one-part models ...

BrontoScorpio

Starting from the bottom left -
The 1st in this group of 6 Kaiyodo Museum Collection kits :

A rather clean 12 pieces Resin kit :

Looking at first like that of a Godzilla with lizard skin - and Even more so when turned round :

The main part up close -

Cleaned, built and finally assembled :

A 1/35 scale Kaiyodo Resin model of Allosaurus ( アロサウルス ) by Eito Hara ( 原詠人 )

Evidently, this artist specializes in monster models - hence the roaring suffering pose and the notable rows of vertebrae across the back :

An imposing front side -
As in the previous model - teeth are a problem :

The old Schleich Replica-Saurus was the only other Allosaurus I could think of that would slightly resembles this Eito Hara model :

Some painted versions I found -

With the Don Glut version - I think the teeth are of his own making -

This model is among the first models who were made - so it took part in the earlier group shots that were taken by Kaiyodo for their Catalogs :

Here in the 1986 Colored Catalog and the Artpla Magazine - both using this blue colored model :

And the even earlier Black&White Catalog of 1984 ( right ) , the 'Garage kit Catalog' of 1985? (left) and the complete 88' Kaiyodo Catalog ( middle )

Before I continue - just a short interlude for a group shot of these last three Carnivours :

Left to right :
1/20 Ceratosaurus ( ケラトサウルス ) , 1/35 Allosaurus ( アロサウルス ) , unknown-scale Gasosaurus ( ガソサウルス )

Found a 'Before' group photo I made some time ago ...

And another 'After' pic :

Next in this group of 6 Kaiyodo Museum Collection kits :

Two confrontation scenes from the  kaiyodo Museum Series of the mid 80's -

Seeing here after, one above the other, at the Kaiyodo 88' Catalog  :

Remarkably - I remembered to take a group shot, just of those two kits, before it was too late ...

On the left :
1/50 Tyrannosaurus vs Triceratops by Eito Hara  ( ティラノサウルス vs トリケラトプス 原型: 原詠人 ) - I consider it to be two different kits - as they are separated from each other.

On the right :
1/48 Apatosaurus vs Ceratosaurus by Kazunari Araki  ( アパトサウルスVSケラトサウルス 原型: 荒木一成 )

The 1st of the Two confrontation scenes from the  kaiyodo Museum Series of the mid 80's -

1/50 Tyrannosaurus vs Triceratops by Eito Hara  ( ティラノサウルス vs トリケラトプス 原型: 原詠人 )

Here - still inside their bags :

Took the opportunity to commemorate for posterity the unbuilt part pieces - just a moment before assembling it all :

From the other side :

The T-rex is an 8 pieces kit whereas the Triceratops is made of 15 parts -

I don't like it when the cut surface is along the place where the feet meets the legs -
It is where the model suffers the hardest weight stress and also a slight miss in the attachment angle will cause the statue to swing back and forth.

The big parts however have loose cavities at the attachment points -
what leaves you with plenty of room for doubt about how to play with the connecting angle.
Here with the Triceratops :

Same as with the T-rex :

As always - there is one main part :

It almost look as though I found a relic of a Greek statue ...

Thank you for the account of how teeth were supplied (or not!) in old resin models. Fascinating!

Quote from: ceratopsian on January 01, 2025, 11:13:47 PMThank you for the account of how teeth were supplied (or not!) in old resin models. Fascinating!
LOL ... Yes, those old teeth ( Ceratosaurus ) are a problem indeed.
You could see it not only with the Ceratosaurus, but also in the Allosaurus , Gasosaurus and even more so with the Gorgosaurus.

Here, In the Araki 1/35 T-rex, you could really see How the teeth were supplied, in the rare case they did :

Follow the red arrow - Initially I got my Kit WITHOUT these teeth - and had them only later.
for now, I choose NOT to try my luck in appending them to the T-rex's mouth ...

p.s.
You can see in the previous post, a different approach to solve the dilemma of those carnivorous teeth -
Eito Hara  ( 原詠人 )  made everything into just one whole mold :

BrontoScorpio

And after some Difficulties - finally built :

first, the T-rex :

A Godzilla looking T-rex - with a skin full of Warts and spots :

And a long tail Trailing behind on the ground -like they used to do back then :

And the opposing Triceratops :

with even more Warts and spots across the whole skin :

Up close from the other side - those monster like attributes are clearly shown -

That is the right angle - if it is to be presented against its opponent :

Like that - in the showdown scene :

Flipping places :

The two separated scene objects :

BrontoScorpio

I think you are right -
There is some resemblance, that can be addressed as 'Vibes' to the aesthetics of Ridley Scott's 'Alien' movie.

BrontoScorpio

However 'Alien' looking this 2 dino Hara's set is - could be one of the reasons why apparently only a small number of such kits were ever produced :

So, It is also one of the rarest to come by -
Not even the great collector Hiroshi  Tamura ( 田村博 ) knew it's source :

As I could find no other reference other than this one Catalog :

As for the Scale stated in the Catalog  - I am not so sure - so  I have aligned 6 other 'stand-off's couples :

Next to:
Kaiyodo DINOLAND Vinyl, Favorite Desktops, Invicta NHM, Battat BMOS, Safari ltd. and Favorite soft models special color

The scale looks to me more like something in the area of 1:40 ...

Libraraptor

Now I imagine them all running towards each other, wedging and fighting. :))

LOL ...  I don't care so much -
As long as they don't Squinting sideways to switch couples with an opposite creature from another company ...
That would be a big betrayal ...

BrontoScorpio

The 2nd of the Two confrontation scenes from the  kaiyodo Museum Series of the mid 80's -

1/48 Apatosaurus vs Ceratosaurus by Kazunari Araki  ( アパトサウルスVSケラトサウルス 原型: 荒木一成 )

Here - still inside their bags :

The Apatosaurus is an 11 pieces kit and the Ceratosaurus is made of 8 parts -

Kits are in their basic state - still holding on to their anguses and attached to their casting poles :

The main part of the Ceratosaurus :

Still needs sanding and cleaning :

The main part of the Apatosaurus :

The three main attachment surfaces still have the casting Stumps sticking out :

Now I have separated the different parts and cleaned them all - even glued the Apatosaurus' feet , tip of tail and lower jaw :

Altogether - a challenging 19 pieces highly vintage kit :

BrontoScorpio

The two complete animals - 1/48 Apatosaurus vs Ceratosaurus by Kazunari Araki  ( アパトサウルスVSケラトサウルス 原型: 荒木一成 )
Both animals spreading sideways on display :

The Ceratosaurus on its side :

And on its Back :

The anxious looking Apatosaurus :

The Ceratosaurus obviously can't stand on its own - so It is up to the Apatosaurus to stand and hold the action scene -
I had 3 different postures for the Apatosaurus :
1. walking
2. Crouching
3. Straightening

1. For the 1st option ( walking ) - I added one cube, just in the right height, just in case ... for support

And right away you can see the reason - there is a Ceratosaurus hanged on its side :

Climbing on to the Apatosaurus like a big carnivorous lizard :

And viciously bites on to its upper neck :

The Apatosaurus tries in vain to shake it off :

While in the midst of striding :

Amazingly, The set above is perfectly capable of holding together without any support or glue.
But, I have chosen a different scene that is much more optimistic ...

The two good friends are going for a joint walk - and their bodies are better visible for display this way :

BrontoScorpio

The 2nd posture for the Apatosaurus :

2. Crouching - I had the right front leg uplifted by the cube :

Even more suited for the 'Optimistic' scene - where the Apatosaurus is carrying the Ceratosaurus on its back

The 3rd posture for the Apatosaurus :
3. Straightening - the right hind leg is on the ground - what makes the Apatosaurus looks as in the midst of rising up -

In this case - the back of the Apatosaurus is practically horizontal -
and the Ceratosaurus might start suspecting that his friend may be interested in shaking it off its back ...

Altogether, I think I'll go for the 1st 'walking' scene ...

BrontoScorpio

Some comparisons are now in due :

The 1985 1/48 next to the 1978 1/20 Ceratosaurus - both by Kazunari Araki (  荒木一成 ) -

If it can ride the Apatosaurus - it's much more fun to ride one of your own - looking like father and son :

Returning back to the biting pose - just for the shot with the "Allosaurus Attack" scene :

That could be a nice paint app. suggestion :

Back to the riding pose :

No doubt - it's much better being a predator than a prey ...
