Papo Prehistoric line: A Compendium (image heavy thread)

Here we are with another updated compendium about a really well-known company: Papo from France.
So many collectors started this hobby with a Papo figure..  ;)

The Papo line is quite controversial between collectors: usually highly detailed figures but even not-so-accurate or too-much-JP-inspired..  ::)

Despite of these facts, the line is globally famous so an updated list could be useful.

(Pictures with Schleich "Hans" human figure are from my personal collection)

For sure Papo "Standing" Tyrannosaurus is one of the best-selling dinosaurs ever.

The now-retired green version (1:40):

The brown version (still on sale):

..and the more recent "striped" version:

Also the "Running" one is a best seller (even if "inspired" by V-Rex from King Kong' movie  :P ).

The classic green version:

The "striped" one:

There is also a brown version; it's quite rare and it's usually an high-price item on Ebay..  :o

The "no-more-rare" Brown Running Rex from 2019..

There are even "babies" from this line:

A note about colors on Papo:

Papo figures are (obviously) hand-painted.
From the beginning to now a lot of Papo' figures have had slightly different or more strong color variations on the same kind of figures (Stegosaurus, Allosaurus, Spinosaurus etc etc..).
A 2018 Spinosaurus could be quite different in colors from a 2012 Spinosaurus.
Despite of that, they have the same code number because they're only color variations.
Then there are repainted figures with a completely different code number .

A color "variation" example about Spinosaurus (1:50):

(2015)

(2017)

They have the same code number.

Spinosaurus "Limited" Edition:

Then there are repainted figures with a different code number .

The original brown version of Velociraptor (1:10):

The more recent one:

The "Striped" from 2016/2017:

The green one:

..and the (finally) feathered Velociraptor (1:10):

To complete the Spinosaurus line, Papo also have a Young one:

Robin I think missing the repainted figures of the mini dinosaurs of Papo, there are two versions of mini figures that you show and others with another coat of paint.  :)

Gothmog the Baryonyx

Are you sure the Plesiosaurus is 1:10 scale? (I don't have the figure, it just seems unlikely to me, even for a relatively small plesiosaur)

Wow, this thread suddenly makes me realise how many Papo figures I'm missing out on

Gothmog the Baryonyx

Also, can you please tell me how old that Dodo figure is because it reminds me of a toy i had when I was a kid

A generic Plesiosaurus was around 3,5mt long; so the Papo (23,5 cm) is closer to 1:15 really.

Papo Dodo was discontinued around 2013 or 2014 (I don't remember exactly).

Gothmog the Baryonyx

Thank you avatar_RobinGoodfellow @RobinGoodfellow that makes mroe sense with the Plesiosaur.
The dodo is interesting, I will have to dig mine out at some point to compare.

As far as I know it's a 2008 model.

I also have a question. When did Papo release the second variant of colors of their tub/toob.

The first models were from 2014, but I can't find info about the second paint.

EDIT: Never mind, I found out that the repainted tubs came out in 2016. If I may contribute to the thread, I'd like to share a picture I assembled for my blog. The whole Papo dinosaur collection organized in chronological order (release date) from 2000 to 2018. I included the oficial repaints, such as T.rex variants and so on, but did not include paint variations like the new stegosaurus with no white on the plates or smaller paint differences.

Acro's comics

The Spinosaurus  doesn't have a repaint or alternative version. The change in paint app is known as a 'running change'. It has been a common occurrence with many of the Papo prehistoric line. They are not catalogued variants.

Excuse me but did you really read what I wrote about colors on Papo?

What a silly response :) I corrected your phrasing not your point chick. You can't call a running change a variant. :)
