I have already made a post under the PNSO Dinosaurs category but I thought it might serve better here.

Lately PNSO has been posting many illustrations on Facebook from their book THEM: Age of Dinosaurs. I was hoping to get some feedback from those who have purchased it as I'm interested it maybe purchasing it in the future.

Halichoeres

I don't have this one but I have two of their marine reptile books (one at least is subtitled "an encyclopedia for children") and whereas it is in Chinese apart from the names, the lush illustrations and skeletal diagrams make them well worth the outlay in my mind.
In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.

I have it and think it well worth the money. It's a gorgeous book, luxurious and beautiful.

I have it and the artwork is excellent, if not always completely accurate. Each painting is accompanied by a paragraph or two as part of a short vignette. The text anthropomorphises the animals a little too much for my tastes and I think it is obvious that English is not the author's first language. But the text is secondary, after all.

There are still some copies in stock at the Wollaton Hall shop (for anyone near Nottingham, UK).

The editing isn't perfect either. (But that is true of many books these days!).  In my copy, they clearly either used the wrong text or the wrong image for one vignette. I don't know if this was corrected or will be corrected in a reprint. But I think it is still definitely worth having. Coffee table book par excellence, not a scientific tome.

DinoToyForum

Oh, nit picks aside there is no question it is a lovely book, I'm glad I own a copy.  ^-^

Ceratosaurus

Thanx for the responses. Looking forward to picking up a copy in the future.

I bought one from the Nottingham Museum. It's £40,00 - not really expensive for what you get.
ZHAO Chuang's art is of high quality and so is the book.
I highly recommend it to all lovers of paleo-art, especially to feathered Dinosaur lovers ^-^ .

For the undecided, here are some pics. Sorry, no scanner available. The photos will do as an appetizer.
In no way do these pics possess the quality of the book's printing!

High-speed shipping! It really took just two days from Nottingham to Karlsruhe :o .
Maybe because our cities are twinned towns :-\ ?

Here's part 2 :) :

That refreshes my memory of just how beautiful the artwork is. And I would love a model of that gaudily resplendent Xiaotingia.

Indeed I am convinced - This is a book well diserves having.

Ordered myself one.

B.T.W.

Is anyone familiar with those chineese books ?
or Those ?
Do they offer further drawings  - or the English version covers it all ?

acro-man

Different arrangement.
Same illustrations.
Same text.
For children.

"Them" - new edition
"Secrets" - old edition

Advice - buy ONE set of any of these series, will be enough.

BrontoScorpio

Thanks, acro-man.

But, do those chinese edditions include the same drawings as the English version ?
Here :

acro-man

Most, if not all, are the same.

There's a big repetition between PNSO publications.

As I can see some illustrations that are not in the English book, I'm pretty sure that THEM is kind of a "best of" of the Chinese series.
I have ordered the Chinese pterosaur hardcover edition and will show pics once I got it :) .

I will await that with interest.  I have wondered myself about whether to buy one!
