Halichoeres

The biting midges, known in the US as "no-see-ums" or "punkies," are tiny blood-sucking flies that live all over the world. They have a reasonable fossil record, and the known Cretaceous species are summed up and revised in a new monograph. The monograph includes the description of a new species, Protoculicoides revelatus, and some nice specimen photos and illustrations:
