That 2020 New Favorite Mosasaurus is gigantic! I have the 2019 Mosasaurus model and it is small compared to that giant.

They are gigantic models and better sculpted than other similar models by Favorite.

avatar_RobinGoodfellow @RobinGoodfellow Thanks for the photos.

Ok they're really gigantic, I'm impressed !

Not gonna lie, I'm quite tempted by the giant Pachycephalosaurus. I just wish it was double this size, I'd grab it in a heartbeat to serve as a stand-in for a near life-fized Stegoceras :P

I'm glad the vinyl series are doing well and seem to be getting a bit more resources and care funnelled their way lately, the quality has improved significantly in the past few years.

Smilodon P.

Did the company use Sandy's model reconstruction instead of AMNH 1696 to make the vinyl pachycephalosaurus?

The sculpture of the head reminds me more of that fossil than this one:

Still haven't figured out how the arm feathers work, have they? Still, it looks like a big, dumb, fun toy.

Oh I know, I meant that as a compliment.

The claws and paws are more detailed than expected on a soft vinyl figure. Nice figure of Favorite along with her quetzalcoatlus are perhaps the two vinyl figures of Favorite that I like the most of this year 2020.

DragonRider02

I honestly like that larger figure much more than the tiny version. But I really don't understand Why Favorite can't give their raptors proper wings!

Jose S.M.

The big one has at least a better color scheme. But yeah what's going on with the wrong feathering always.

It's always odd, IMO, that toys marketed primarily for the young set have such a propensity to be inaccurate, Making an accurate figure generally won't harm their playability and fun factor, especially if they are given poses that encourage play options.

The unfeathered hands is something extremely common in Japanese media at large, even documentaries. If I had to guess it probably stems from earlier widespread adoption of feathers in general.

Going to have to get one of these, and then maybe another few for customs!

A lot of Japanese paleoart seems to be stuck in the 90s / early 2000s.
Thinking here of Kazunari Araki who likely sculpted this model and Seiji Yamamoto for example.
I suspect that language barrier is the cause of that.
I wish Tokugawa would make more models for Favorite, he has more reading access to new reference material and it shows as his models are most excellent.
Speaking of which I hope for a desmostylian or Paraceratherium designed by him for Favorite one day.

A desmostylus or paraceratherium made by Favorite would be great.

I'm sceptical about Favorite during a standout job on any mammal. I can't say that I'm overwhelmed by their Smilodon or Wooly Mamoth, both of which I have. I do love their dinos, but S @Stolpergeist is right, their styling tends to be 1990 ish. I think that there is a certain "insularity" to their figures - that said, I like them and have a very comprehensive collection of the soft models, which have high production values and a distinctive style.

Hey, I remember a pic posted here a while back showing a Kamuysaurus - does anyone know if that was an upcoming release or just a one-off sculpture by Kazunari Araki? I want to know if I should scratch it from my wish-list.
In the end it was not guns or bombs that defeated the aliens, but that humblest of all God's creatures... the Tyrannosaurus rex.

I don't recall Favorite Co. revealing any Kamuysaurus.

I need these mammals on my shelves. I'd much prefer these to almost all of their dinosaurs, really.

Shonisaurus

How pretty paraceratherium and desmostilians are absolute perfection. Tokugawa should honestly make prehistoric mammals sincerely they are superior to their Mesozoic figures in perfection.

SidB

S @Stolpergeist , I'll have to dig out my Favorite figures and look at the sculpts of the mammoth and sabre-tooth again. It's been a while since I acquired them. I know that I was pleased with their quality of production, but not so much with the coloration or the poses, for some reason. I'll do a more thorough evaluation of them in light of your comments. Perhaps I've become too wedded to the usual interpretation.
