Hello again!!

Jun/17th/2020 - This model is for sale if you would like to have it, send PM.

So I decided to use a 1/35 REBOR Stegosaurus to customize it and make a diorama based on the Sideshow Stegosaurus statue. I used a PNSO mini Huayangosaurus as a base to customize a baby stegosaurus. The Stegosaurus mother features 2 interchangeable hedas with magnets, 1 head with open mouth, 1 head with closed mouth. I hope you like it

It has been fabulous, embroidered from the artistic point of view! If they sold that figure I would be an insurance buyer. You have done a very good job, it is a work of art.

Impressive custom work! Too gaudy for my personal taste, but nevertheless very eye catching and perfectly done in sculpt and paint work. :)
Did you use an airbrush, just brushes or a combination of both?

Thank you so much, I have to confess I totally forgot to reduce the color saturation in pictures a bit to match real life colors, I know not many people are fond of such contrasting and vibrant colors on dinosaurs, but I'm naturally inclined to try this crazy combinations over and over again, I don't like simple colors on dinosaurs so I'm always trying new techniques and color effects on my poor dino models. I should have toned down all colors on the body to make the plates stand out, but it still looks great (to me) in person. I always work using a combination of air brush and hand brush.

I'm glad you love them as I do.

Thank you for your kind words, yeah I wish REBOR had sold this figure in such pose, it would be a hit!! Although I'm not sure if stegosaurus was able to stand on its 2 hind feet like that.

This is my favourite of your repaints. I think it actually looks very plausible. It would be too expensive for one of our production paint jobs but as custom I think it is great and very original. Is the paint scheme totally your own or did you get inspiration from somewhere else? You also did a great job in your modifications to the pieces and texture replication.

Thank you very much Doug, it was a lot of time invested to paint this little fella, I can´t imagine a bigger model. The coloration for the body and plates are mine, I did pencil drawing for the design of the plates scheme including that "fake eye" that many animals develope, I´ve even seen some stegosaurus artworks including this characteristic and I wanted to try it on a model, the body coloration was self inspired from my previous works (tamiya triceratops, my Ampelosaurus sculpture and 1 of my baby Triceratops sculpts with green crest), the idea of the orange snout with yellow and black around the eyes was inspirated by an Anatotitan illustration I saw once, I just couldn´t find it again.

Also, I sculpted 2 heads for this model, 1 with open mouth and its little tongue, and 1 with closed mouth, they are interchangeable using tiny magnets to hold them in place. Here is a picture of the second head, I´ll make a video about this feature later. I didn´t used my "light box" so it looks whitish.

I was wondering why you left a visible vertical line on the head, neat idea, I am going to steal your idea for magnets when ever I get around to redoing some vintage Aurora Monster models from the 60s. I wanted to have two heads for a few of them, one true to the original and one closer to the movie but hadn't gotten around to figuring out how to secure them, now I know simple and quick great idea.
I also wanted to ask did you resculpt the adult spikes or is that how they come from REBOR?

That's a very skillful surgery and beautiful paint job. Well done!

I'm glad it helped, here's a short video I did to show how the interchangeable heads feature, I hope it helps even more. I'm sorry I don't know how to attach videos so I just add the link to it:

I re-sculpted all the neck, heads, tail, 9 dorsal plates, and the tail spikes because originally they are rubbish, very flexible and paint would crack and peel off easily.

I'm flattered, I appreciate your words. I wasn't sure to get such nice feedback with this daring paint scheme and colors.

Bokisaurus

Very impressive and stunning colors and designs. 😃

Also, this model is forsale if you would like to have it.

Gorgeous, stunning work! Especially love the peafowl-like pattern on the plates.

The outdoor shots really bring it alive and make it more vibrant.
