Quote from: Sim on March 11, 2023, 08:49:48 PMThanks for your interest, S @SidB!  I'm not sure where you're looking because in the shortlist in the first post of this thread there are only two PNSO Giganotosaurus, one marked as 2019 and the other as 2023. Perhaps you mistook the two Papo Giganotosaurus in the locked poll as PNSO Giganotosaurus?
There's forces at work here! First, you're right, I did not perceive them correctly, I'm misreading the PNSO's and Papo's (my perception bias), BUT, my polls show 0% for each result (members voted 0) on both pages, but ONLY one PNSO, the Giganotosaurus, and that  without either a 2019 and 2023 designation. Could my pages read differently than the new short thread? I may be losing my mind!

I'm sorry you're finding it confusing S @SidB.  You're looking at the poll which is currently locked and not updated.  The updated shortlist is in the first POST of this thread.  I intend to update the poll and open it for voting soon, so it will all be very clear soon, I think!

Okay, will wait for the update.

It's been almost a week and no suggestions have come in, so I think that's been enough time for that.  I've updated the poll with new figures and I've opened it for voting! :)  Let's go!

Faelrin

It's pretty sad that I only just remembered the HC Concavenator when I went to vote, lol. It's not accurate, but I like it. Oh well, still plenty of choices to go with.

Honestly most I don't feel too strongly for these days, but things like the new PNSO Acrocanthosaurus, Giganotosaurus, and Meraxes are stand outs, as well as the Haolonggood Carcharodontosaurus. I also voted for the Carnegie Concavenator, as I think that's still the best option for one, despite being retired, both the Eofauna and Vitae Gignatosaurus, though I think the new PNSO has them beat, but they were good options prior for many years. Likewise I went with the Papo and Rebor Acrocanthosaurus, as they were probably the best options until the PNSO one took the cake (and perhaps eventually until the Cyberzoic/BotM one is on the scene). I also almost voted for the Rebor Saurophaganax, but ultimately went with the Papo Acrocanthosaurus, as I still rather like the coloration on the 2018 model, even though the anatomy isn't the greatest.

Edit: I forgot to mention I also voted for the PNSO (large) Yangchuanosaurus. I think it is the nicest option for that genus currently, not that there's a lot of competition for it particularly.

I'm surprised the Carnegie Concavenator is doing so well.  I remember when it came out it wasn't the most well-received figure to put it one way.  But look where we are now, it's going head to head with the Haolonggood Carcharodontosaurus, with PNSO's 2023 Giganotosaurus not far behind.

SidB

That was interesting. I found myself NOT voting for the classic and almost legendary Battat Acrocanthosaurus, something that I didn't think would ever happen. Also not for the Wild Safari and Carnegie Giganotosarus' - it's just that there were better places to put my votes. Even the Vitae Giga didn't snaffu a vote this time. However, like avatar_Faelrin @Faelrin , I voted for the old Carnegie Canoncavenator, still the best I think. Picked the Fav. Neo, the Eofauna Giga, the Haol. Carchar and a bunch of PNSOs.

CollectA Metriacanthosaurus is a gem, something about it just makes it my favourite figure of this brand

I have it and I think it's pretty lovely. It has a charm that I don't see in any other of my CollectA theropods.

Sim

I like the CollectA Metriacanthosaurus too.  It's one of CollectA's best theropods, I find it strange how they've been unable to make any other allosauroid as nice as their Metriacanthosaurus.  It's especially strange considering how many allosauroids they've made.

Wild Safari has a top tier Allosaurus, but as far as other allosauroids go, they don't have any outstanding ones.  With all the allosauroid toys that have been made, there's not a lot left for Safari to make that will stand out.  There's still Asfaltovenator, or my personal prefence: Sinraptor dongi.  The PNSO Sinraptor is S. hepingensis and I would very much like to have both species of Sinraptor.  If Safari made it and gave it stripes or spots it could be an outstanding figure!

Faelrin

I'm surprised no one has made a figure of Asfaltovenator since it was described in 2019 yet. The front half of it is mostly complete too. The paper isn't paywalled either, so is easily accessible to view the preserved material, etc.

Meraxes on the other hand, already has a figure in less then a full year then the time it was initially described (July 2022). Granted I'm thankful for it though. I wasn't expecting one to show up that soon, and from PNSO of all.

Agreed about the Concavenator - I remember very well that it received a very lukewarm reception initially, much less positive than it deserved. I wonder at times if this sort of thing, cumulatively, became a turn-off for Rogers.

Pliosaurking

Voting off figures I own, I'd say the Haolonggood Carcharodontosaurus is the best. In my eyes it's also one of, if not the best carnosaur figures ever made. PNSO's Acrocanthosaurus is Beautiful as well. Safari's Giga is my current accurate Giga and I like it quite a lot. PNSO's most recent carnosaurs are easily up there with the best. Can't wait to grab the Meraxes!

Fembrogon

I voted for a mix of figures - several of which I've never actually handled in person, so I feel a little guilty about that, but I tried to be relatively fair all the same.

I feel a little weird especially voting for PNSO's newest two figures - one of which is barely even out yet - but Lucas and Mungo look they can easily beat most competition, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt.

The Haolonggood Carcharo is hands-down the best of the bunch, out of the figures I have personal experience with. It's a spectacular work of toy art, even with a few quirks in the balancing of the legs. I'm glad to see it's one of the highest-voted figures so far.

Favorite's Giga is honestly very good, surprisingly so given some of the company's releases preceding and following it. Nest to PNSO's new Lucas, the Favorite probably has the most accurately sculpted skull (skullpt?  :)) ) of any figure on the market.

Battat(Terra) Acro and Carnegie Giga are my nostalgia votes; they're dated now, but they were amazing to me when they first released and they deserve that credit.

My 2 cents on a few of my choices.

Pachyrhinosaurus

I voted for all the Carnegie, Safari, and Battat offerings. Some are better than others, but they're my personal top 10 out of the lot.

I guess if I'm making the videos for these I better at least vote on them. Wish I checked this thread sooner, I probably would have nominated the HC Metriacanthosaurus and Concavenator but all well.  I don't actually have them yet and they wouldn't have made the cut anyway.

I voted for...

Carnegie Giganotosaurus
CollectA Metriacanthosaurus
Favorite Neovenator
Kaiyodo Acrocanthosaurus
PNSO Acrocanthosaurus
PNSO Carcharodontosaurus
PNSO Giganotosaurus (2023)
PNSO Meraxes
Safari Yangchuanosaurus

Sim

I'm surprised the Carnegie Giganotosaurus isn't doing better, I thought it was still a much-loved figure.  I guess it's true that the Concavenator is the finest Carnegie allosauroid so the ranking makes sense.  Speaking of Concavenator, the Favorite version only has one vote!  I thought it was a more popular figure, possibly the best Concavenator figure!  It seems the Carnegie version is the preferred one instead.

I find it amusing that the old PNSO Giganotosaurus has 0 votes while the new one has many votes.  PNSO made the right choice in updating their Lucas!  I wonder what other figures PNSO or others would benefit from updating?

I love the Carnegie Giga. It was one of my first figures as an adult collector and it's good enough that I still don't feel compelled to get another Giga. The new PNSO is the first to tempt me but it's part of the museum line so...no.

I almost voted for the Favorite Concavenator, it has a beautiful paintjob and I like it better than the Carnegie. The Carnegie Concavenator is a great model but by the time it came out I was getting tired of the Carnegie theropod pose. I guess my feelings about it have stayed the same after all these years.

Fembrogon

I imagine the Favorite figures would rank a little higher if they were more accessible; not everyone wants to spend for Japanese marketplace/shipping services, direct or third-party.
I was tempted to vote for the Favorite Neovenator, but ended up giving it to the Collecta version instead.

I don't have it or the Neovenator. They're good figures, but not good enough to jump through hoops for. Still, I feel like I've got a good enough idea of what they're like to vote (or not vote) for them.
