Dinotoyblog ratings not working

Well, I went through all the blog posts and voted where it was appropriate.  I didn't notice odd votes but I also was only checking the rating for posts I cared about... and that excludes most of the figures of the brands being mentioned in this thread.  Although I was surprised and a bit amused that the original Sideshow Spinosaurus was rated one star!  Personally, I respect what people vote for.  And I'm glad the REBOR initiated votes are gone.

Not sure how I feel about this change, probably more negative but I understand the reason behind it. Went around and gave Scheleich some votes. I noticed some stranger votes, like random and perfectly fine Safari figures getting one star, but I won't judge how others vote.

Quote from: Crackington on February 05, 2023, 06:15:36 PMTotally agree avatar_Gwangi @Gwangi - I get a bit annoyed when I see really old figures like Marx or Pyros etc with 1 star on the blog or on the Dinotoycollector site.

I tend to then give them the maximum score to help even things up a bit :D

Same. I see Marx reviews getting 1 or 2 stars. Personally, I give every Marx toy no less than 3. Some are better than others but we're talking about 60 year old toys here, the age needs to factor in. These were the first mass produced dinosaur toys of their kind and they're way better than a lot of the bargain bin junk that followed and persists to this day. People are unable to look at things objectively. Their line of thinking is as basic as "I don't like it so it's bad". There are a lot of things I do not collect but I can still judge them with a critical eye and assess their quality.
Many of the Invicta received that same lack of objectivity when rating them too.

Yup, I noticed that too, as well as decent figures from a few other brands.

I will say openly and unashamedly that I do not have respect for other peoples votes when those votes were clearly cast without any real thought. Using Mattel as a basis of comparison since that's where I most noticed it... a case can be made that the Miragaia deserves 1 star, but there is no way that the Dreadnoughtus or HC Tyrannosaurus would also be 1 star figures.  I can't respect people blindly voting like that. But, thanks to other voters, things are evening out to more accurately reflect the quality of each figure. And looking at the blog it appears that a lot of people are re-voting today.

I don't feel I can conclude what reason people had for giving a particular vote so I respect them all...  Even though some aren't appropriate in my opinion.  I agree that the Mattel Dreadnoughtus is not a one star figure.  I haven't seen a reason why the Hammond Collection Tyrannosaurus wouldn't be though, it looks terrible to me between its strange proportions mixed with lots of articulation seams, glass eyes that don't show the pupil well and jaw that opens so wide that it takes away from the JP T. rex look, to me...  Related, the CollectA Pliosaurus is absurdly bad, I saw it got a better rating than it deserves.  I was also shocked the CollectA Rhomaleosaurus got five stars from someone.  That's another terrible figure.  If those two were dinosaurs they would probably get only two stars.

By the way, Dr Admin, I've noticed some reviews don't show the stars in the list view and the "Read more" button is sometimes placed on text.

Speaking of Mattel, are the Kenner figures getting many stars at the same time? If yes, then I think it's because of Jurassic Park Fans. A lot of them seem to have rather screwed up views, literally worshipping Kenner while at the same time dismissing everything Mattel.
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Yes, I'm working on a fix for this, it happens on reviews with a uniquely written excerpt.

Name a better Rhomaleosaurus toy! Just kidding. ;) I didn't vote for it yet but when I do I'll give it four stars, for personal reasons. There's no objectivity in these ratings.

Haha!  I'm hoping PNSO will make a Rhomaleosaurus figure, as well as a Plesiosaurus and Styxosaurus.  Safari would be a good choice to make them too.

A PNSO Rhomaleosaurus would be amazing. But I'm especially surprised there aren't more Plesiosaurus (dolichodeirus) toys from the major players, it seems like an obvious choice, as prehistoric animals go its one of the more widely known.

I think the fact that JP T. rex toys by Hasbro exist is enough reason for the HC T. rex to be a greater than 1 star toy. I have my issues with it too, but the pros outweigh the cons.

I have not gotten to the Rhomaleosaurus yet but will be giving it 3-4 stars. The Pliosaurus got 3. I feel like the Rhomaleosaurus figure is one of CollectA's better efforts from their early years. A lot of the Procon era figures will get fewer than 3 stars from me. Likewise, most of the Starlux figures are getting 3-4 stars. Do they hold up to todays standards? Nope! Are some of them ugly? Yup! But many of them represent obscure species and you can see the love that went into them. They are also 50+ years old.

From what I've seen so far there are more votes towards Mattel than Kenner, but I do think the Kenner toys are being rated more favorably. I don't get it either. I have a lot of love for the Kenner toys but most of them are no better than what Mattel is putting out. People are blinded by their nostalgia, I guess.

Over 5,000 votes have already been cast since this morning!

There's definitely a recency bias (i.e. figures that were reviewed recently are getting more votes, which makes complete sense).

It's hilarious to me that someone would go to the trouble of clicking all of the Mattel reviews just to rate them low. I'm not much into pop culture dinosaurs, so I just don't read those reviews and don't rate the figures. I'll vote for the things I care about.

Me too. If a figure featured on DTB interests me enough to read the review, then I rate it. On the ATB, however, I vote for all reviews (that are not mine); as the editor I like to read them all anyway. But on DTB I am more selective.

So far, Hasbro appears to be receiving the lowest ratings. Lots of single stars to be seen, and I really can't blame anyone for voting that way!

I gave almost all of them 1 star. The only exception were the Indominus and Mosasaurus, they got 2 stars. Even that felt generous.

I gave all the Hasbro toys one star except for that Transformer. That one is actually pretty neat.

I wonder if someone will review the Spider Man T. rex.

Never came across it in any store. It would be an amusing review.

I've seen it at my Walmart, definitely not my kind of thing.
