SidB's Repaints - Revisiting the Past

I really liked the new Eofauna T-rex released earlier this year, but did not care for the all too obvious seam behind the skull (excluding the necessary one associated with the jaw's articulation, which didn't bother me). As below -

So, I had it removed, and the teeth paint app improved, as here -

Now it's everything for which I'd hoped!

the seam doesn't really bother me, but it looks super clean.

The upgrade cost me 20 dollars, so no complaints.

I intend to try this myself once I get some air dry polymer clay. Looks great!

Go for it!

Joliezac

I like that it is fixed and still has the articulation! I continue to be on the fence about this figure. I might bite the bullet and get it when the new Eofauna figures come out.

To  be honest, I never seriously considered getting rid of he articulation. I know that its operation is somewhat unorthodox, but that was part pf its appeal to me. The upper seam had to go - it sort of spoiled an otherwise superb figure IMO.

Now she's good to display alongside my 1955 T-bird model (1/36 scale, I also collect vintage Ford Thunderbird diecast models, mostly 1/64 and 1/43-1/48).

"Welcome to T-bird Park!" Great arrangement! :)

Thanks, avatar_Paleo Flo @Paleo Flo - the yellow Bird seemed to be the best choice to accompany 'Sue', but I'm afraid that it has upstaged her. Hope that she doesn't pull a 'Jurassic Park' on its roof, as in the first movie.

I'll have to send you some pictures of a 1950s to 1960s thunderbird catalog I have!
Love this comparison!

That's what a T.Rex HAS to do with a car  :))

Looks really good. Remarkable value too for the adjustment!

Thanks. Yes, he doesn't overcharge me, that's for sure.

Now a look at another rex, namely Rebor's 'Kiss'. The big seam at the junction of tail and hips was a bit of an eyesore from the beginning, though I understood Rebor's tactic as a shipping cost reduction move, quite understandable. Still, something had to be done about that seam.

My friend, Chris, epoxied the tail onto the body, puttied in any remaining gaps and blended the two together, correcting some paint discrepancies that were present previously between the two.

O:-)

Furthermore the faint, greyish topdressing, more of an 'icing on the cake'  distraction than much else, was painted over.

That's the tale of the tail. Kiss the Rex says, "Don't bring up this matter again, I'm putting it all behind me." Fair enough, Kiss, I won't mention it again (fingers crossed).

I don't think I'll be bothered by the seam line on Eofauna's T. rex when I get around to getting it, but yours looks nicer, no doubt about that.

Likewise, your friend also did a great job at hiding the seam on Rebor's T. rex!

I figured that these seams were nothing much too, and I lived with the Rebor's one for quite a while, as you can surmise. But because I could get Sue's rear of skull seam done for $20 and Rebor's tail for $25, both in devalued Canadian dollars, that wasn't much of an expenditure and, in my estimation, well worth the paltry price.

Quote from: Flaffy on July 08, 2024, 09:49:40 PMThe Albertosaurus in particular looks so much better with lips. I still have yet to pick up any of the latest PNSO Tyrannosaurs for this reason.
It really was a long, difficult decision to eventually commit to financing the upgrade, but this completes the transformation of my PNSO tyrannosaurids from (but not including) Andrea onwards. I may yet have her lipped too, as she was the first of the PNSO Tyrannosaurs to have the new, highly detailed integument. Needless to say, the expense in making these conversions has precluded me from making the volume of purchases that I've made in the past. Taking one thing with another, I have no regrets. It's quality over quantity and the PNSO products in this area, generally speaking, are worth  the extra effort.
Well, I decided to take the plunge - I've sent Andrea the reclining T-rex to Bravo models in Mexico to get 'lipped'. Got tired of her dwerpy look with those exposed upper teeth and the verbal abuse that she was suffering from the other rexy bullies on the Tyrannosaurus shelf and sent Aaron a new project on which to work his magic.
