Oh my god how the hell do people still think Quad spino is a thing. It's been seven YEARS.
You say that as if there was definitive evidence of it being a traditional biped. Walking on the hands like that is flat out wrong, always was, but that means it was only "not a quadruped" in technicality. It may have walked on all four limbs by placing weight on the forearms, or slid its body along the ground, how Spinosaurus moved on land is still very very far from a done deal.

Frankly that's far from the worst part of this thing. The wrists are pronated, the neural spines the wrong shape, the neck is to short, the limbs are to long despite being a quadruped...
Ibrahim doesnt even believe in quad spino anymore
(That's the guy who made the original theory by the way)
And? I take a number of issues with both of the reconstructions that came with each version of that paper. His knuckle walking idea was clearly always wrong from the get-go, as the fingers are known material and aren't built for supporting weight. Doesn't mean Spinosaurus walked on its hind legs like a traditional biped.

People myself included have been suggesting variations of crawling movements since the original Nat Geo leak of the Skeleton before the first paper released, and frankly nothing has come along yet that seems any better. An animal is going to move in the most comfortable way whenever it can, placing weight on fingers not built for weight would be painful, balancing on tiny legs with atrophied muscles would be difficult if not also painful, leaning on the forearms is easy.
It's an aquatic animal. It'd rarely be on land, if at all

Not a dinosaur, but could stand in for a lot of prehistoric dioramas given it's poseability.

I really like the look of this figure, the way it's so poseable and how the joints aren't really very visible makes it so visually appealing!

I may have to get this at some point.
Walking With Beasts is the best palaeo media documentary and no one can persuade me otherwise.

terrorchicken

wow that's some crazy realism! looks like they cut up a taxidermied croc and articulated it.  :o

Over9K

Yikes... BBTS wants $335 for that Crocodile. Probably means it's $250 in Japan...

Creature

Looks like it's about $195, give or take the exchange rate. Significantly cheaper to import yourself.

I need to take a tally of my existing pre-orders and see if I'll have the scratch for this guy come February, because he looks like he'll be a lot of fun.

That crocodile is gorgeous. I wish Bandai could put half this much effort into extinct animals.

I wish they could put this effort into Godzilla

They used to.

Bandai didn't stop with the Nile Croc... they also have this gecko.
(Man I wish Bandai would consider making a non-JP dinosaur in this line)

Let's all keep our fingers crossed! An armored dinosaur, such as borealopelta, would be perfect (although some species of Paleozoic animals would also fit very well in this line).

Duna

Wow! Those leopard geckos are incredible! I was a leopard gecko breeder for some years and they look very much like the real animals, and articulated??!!!  :o

ITdactyl

Sorry for not replying about the price avatar_GojiraGuy1954 @GojiraGuy1954 , and thanks for the save S @Smilodon P.

Apparently, both the Leopard Gecko and Nile Crocodile are part of Premium Bandai's: "Diversity of Life on Earth Ultimate [series]".
They want to showcase extant animals using this type of articulation:

Gecko will be released January next year so might have been a mistake on my part to post in this thread; I didn't notice the page I was looking at says the geckos in the photos are prototypes.

I guess expecting them to release a prehistoric critter in this toy family is still a pipedream - considering they want to focus on extant animals.

terrorchicken

is the yellow gecko with the pink tail a real color mutation? cute!

Over9K

#54
Anyone else grabbing the two "LIMEX" Tyrannosaurus skeleton models kits??

The white one is just under 9 inches long, and the brown one is almost 14 inches long.

From what I understand, LIMEX is some sort of Limestone/Resin composite, giving a bone-like texture.

I'm pre-ordered for both, $18 for the white one, $45 for the brown one...

There is also a Triceratops, scaled and posed to go with the white Tyrannosaurus, but IMO the hips look kinda weird...

^neat! color mutations can be fun. I used to have a pair of lovebirds and it was so cool and unexpected when we got a lutino among a clutch of 4  hatchlings.

Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no
