Prehistory Resurrection

The Hammond Collection figure for which I was most excited and which is definitely the best figure in this line according to me; the Hammond Collection Triceratops, review by Collect Jurassic. It is very faithful to its screen counterpart. Finally a figure from Mattel which does not have off-looking proportions and which combines realism with articulation.

Pliosaurking

The trike looks great However the size still bugs me, Seams they still won't make a proper sized triceratops for some reason

Very interesting line-up species wise. Sculpt-wise however... eh. Hit or miss as usual for Mattel.

No clue what these four theropods are supposed to be... Though given Mattel's trend of slapping on random dinosaur names onto sculpts that barely resemble the intended species, I'd say these are anyone's guess at this point.

Tupandactylus would be my guess for the crested Pterosaur, but Caiuajara is a possibility as well as avatar_Faelrin @Faelrin suggested.

A Unenlagiine(?) without feathers is a very odd choice; on the same level of weirdness as giving Rugops of all things feathers and 2 fingers.

Glad to see Genyodectes having a non-Battle Damage release. Never been a fan of permanent wounds on my JP figures.

Edaphosaurus(?) is most likely based on its appearance in the game Jurassic World Alive. Where it unfortunately shares a rig with Dimetrodon and other Sphenacodontids in the game, and hence shares their proportions: Massive head, short tail.

Spoiler
-Baby brachiosaurus repaint/retool
-Next 3, no idea, but the first seems to be feathered at least
-Caiuajara perhaps?
-Definitely a dromaeosaurid of some kind. Could be anything though? Austroraptor maybe?
-Not entirely sure, but looks familiar

-Genydectes repaint/retool
-No idea
-Dimetrodon repaint/retool
-Zuniceratops repaint/retool

-Diabloceratops finally
-Yutyrannus maybe (lacking the crests though)? Seems to be big and feathered. Maybe also Lythronax finally?
-Repaint/retool of Liopleurodon?
-Another I have no idea

-Sinosaurus perhaps?
-Stegosaurus repaint/retool

The fact most here look like generic theropods, doesn't exactly bode well for next year's line up (if that's what these are for). But I might change my mind if I can recognize them. Wouldn't be too surprised if most are based on fragmentary remains that leave it up to the imagination.

I couldn't guess what most of those theropods are supposed to be. Some have me intrigued, like the yellow-crested theropod, the big crested one with the red tail, and maybe a couple of the smaller ones. Not interested in a featherless dromaeosaur and I prefer the colors on the Extreme Damage Genyodectes over that new one. The pterosaur, Nothosaurus, and Diabloceratops are definite standouts. Can't wait to see more!

suspsy

How can that possibly be a Lythronax when it clearly has feathers and three digits on its hand? Looks like it could be Yutyrannus.

Wouldn't be the first time they screwed up the broad strokes of a dinosaur.

2023 leaks already? Sigh...

Yeah, I can't identify most of these with the exception of the repaints/retools, possible Tupandactylus (unless it a new, wrongly labeled Tapejara) Austroraptor, Nothosaurus, Dimetrodon/Edaphosaurus, Diabloceratops and Sinotyrannus since that's obviously a large figure and Sinotyrannus is the only large theropod depicted with such a crest that I know...

Unless one of the unidentified theropods turns out to be a rather well-know genus, the only figure I have truly interest in is the Nothosaurus. Maybe the Diabloceratops and I want to know what genus are the two theropods and pliosaur on the same row.

I made a vow of only getting film, JPOG, JWE and relatively "popular" genus from Mattel's offerings. I can't afford getting everything they put out anymore, obscure species be dammned. Again, instead of a Sinotyrannus in the medium-large range they could have released something like Acrocanthosaurus.

Disappointed there isn´t an Oviraptor among these, still waiting for that, a new chance to get an adult Nasutoceratops (it's a film dinosaur, not that savage strike figure that wasn't in the film that barely got released) and of course, a Corythosaurus.

EDIT: also saw Collect Jurassic review of the Hammond Collection Triceratops. The same size as the regular one...Getting a bigger Trike it´s a lost cause already.

suspsy

It is also disappointing how there's not a single ornithopod in that lot. Does someone at Mattel hate Corythosaurus?

They sell well enough, otherwise we wouldn't have got Parasaurolophus, Edmontosaurus, Ouranosaurus and Iguanodon. Also, the first Hammond Collection release was Parasaurolophus.

Gwangi

I'm hoping that they're saving the Corythosaurus for the Hammond Collection.  ;D

Having to choose between Yutyrannus and Sinotyrannus for my boys' collection would be difficult, although I would naturally lean more toward the one with feathers.

Quote from: suspsy on June 30, 2022, 03:56:15 PMSo what is that big theropod next to the Stegosaurus supposed to be?

Could be Sinotyrannus, it's more bulky but the crest looks Guanlong-like and it tends to be depicted with one.

And yeah that pliosaur better not be electronic, I still don't know what Mattel was thinking with that lol

it has interesting sounds..but its a fair point, every kid will dunk it in water lol

Been seeing the hammond collection in my local target. All figures available except the Tyrannosaurus. I regret not preordering the figure. Now, Mattel figures usually crowd shelves at some point, even if they are amazing figures. Could there be a possibility this Hammond Collection Tyrannosaurus will do the same?

I don't think you have to worry. We've seen this time and again. Folks are getting their pre-orders which gets everyone excited about the product. Now stores are starting to get them in and there's a mad rush to get them because people are afraid that they'll miss out, are impatient, want to be the first to own one, or are overcome with excitement because everyone is talking about it. Within a few weeks everyone that exhausted themselves looking for it will have one and you'll be able to pop into Target or get on Amazon and buy one without any fuss. None of the wave one HC figures are rare, Target is even putting them on clearance, I see no reason to think that the T. rex will be any different. I remember the same thing happening with the Explorer set and Brachiosaurus and so many others.

As for me, my Target doesn't seem to carry HC toys at all. It's annoying but I still got the first four releases easily, online.

Thank you for the reassurance avatar_Gwangi @Gwangi
Right now I am in a kick for the star wars black series line, and that has been a pain to keep up with. I'd like to collect the Hammond Series, mainly for the rex and a few others, but I don't want to share the same fate of another line being a pain to collect.

I just got the HC Velociraptor's for $10, not the best figure out of this sub-line, needs a brown+water wash added to really make it the JP raptor I want. I am hoping for such a mark down too with the Tyrannosaurus.

Nothosaurus confirmed for JWCC Season 5. So, that explains the inclusion of Nothosaurus for the future roster. On a side note, it is nice to see  Paleozoic creatures appearing in the franchise; for example, Dimetrodon and Lystrosaurus in Dominion and now this one.
