PNSO : New for 2023

For some reason, PNSO's three most recent tyrannosaurids only look natural to me when their lower jaw is in one position.  For the Tyrannosaurus it's with the mouth open, while for the Lythronax and Daspletosaurus it's with the mouth closed.  Otherwise, the Tyrannosaurus looks goofy and the Daspletosaurus and Lythronax look forced to keep their mouth open.  I've never experienced this with other PNSO figures.  I wonder if PNSO's ability to make natural looking figures is suffering because they have made so many similar animals in a row?  I'm now no longer sure I will get any of the PNSO 2023 tyrannosaurids...  I'm sure I'm in the minority, since the 2023 PNSO Tyrannosaurus sold over 900 units already, but I hope PNSO will go back to making figures made with "passion" rather than stale-ish as their recent tyrannosaurids have been.

Sim

I've made some progress in deciding whether to get any of PNSO's recent tyrannosaurids.  The Lythronax I already knew early on I didn't want, mostly because I don't like the figure and because of the animal's fragmentary remains.  I've decided I won't get the Daspletosaurus as I don't much like it either and I already have the Safari Daspletosaurus which I'm happy with.  As for the Tyrannosaurus, I think I will get it if Safari or Haolonggood doesn't release a better one before I buy it.  I don't feel the PNSO 2023 Tyrannosaurus is worth its price which puts me off getting it, but I like it enough to want it if there isn't going to be a better Tyrannosaurus...  If I do get it, I seriously hope its teeth will be painted well, it's astonishing PNSO would sell it at that price with poorly painted teeth like on some units of it.

SRF

avatar_Sim @Sim the teeth on my Cameron are painted flawlessly. I haven't seen any in hand pics of Cameron with badly painted teeth as well, so I don't think it's an actual known problem of the actual product.
But today, I'm just being father

Thanks for that avatar_SRF @SRF!  I have a feeling initial batches of PNSO figures is where paint errors are most common, I remember seeing PNSO Carnotaurus and Allosaurus with poorly painted teeth when those figures were released, but the ones I got later on didn't have that problem.  If I do get Cameron, I hope its teeth will be painted well!

The caps, Lythronax and Daspletosaurus arrived this week. I expect Cameron tomorrow or early next week.

Don't know if there are some new rules, or just bad luck, but for one of the first times I had to pay customs charges for the packages. Not much, but still...

Anyway, both the Lythronax and Daspletosaurus figures are again very nice. Although my initial opinion about the Daspletosaurus weird pose on the right leg still stands. It's off. Like it stepped on a piece of Lego or something, or broke it's foot and is limping. It doesn't look natural.
But other than that, very nice figures.

The caps are pretty nice too. Especially for the price, not bad at all!

I got a good chuckle out of the Lego comment, been there done that ;)

To me when I look at the figure from it's left hand side, it just looks like it's frozen in time at the very moment it was beginning to raise it's right leg to take a step.

BUT, if I look at it from the right hand side, it gives me the impression that it saw something that stopped it dead in it's tracks and it's either in the process of taking a step back to change direction or perhaps to position itself in a better defensive posture.

I see what you mean. I can look at it that way. ;D

Cameron arrived just now. And I have to say that when it first was released, I was a bit hesitant. High price, and another T. rex?

But having it in hand... WOW! Beautiful figure. Nice and heavy, with a good thick presence. Too bad for the lack of lips, but at least the teeth aren't as long as they are on winter Wilson. And they are painted very well. Overall, very happy with it.

The following is from "Good, semi-good, & bad dino sources" ( https://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=4742.msg349805#msg349805 ).

QuoteAs you may remember, "I love PNSO", which seems to be best known for their models (& for good reason: https://www.deviantart.com/jd-man/journal/SD-My-dino-media-wishlist-901438371 ). That said, I love them most for their books, which may be the best of their kinds, especially the natural histories ( https://www.deviantart.com/jd-man/journal/SD-Top-4-children-s-natural-histories-of-dinos-924726008 ). I seriously hope all their books are published in English, especially the "Children's Encyclopedia of Dinosaurs series" (As of this posting, Holtz's "Dinosaurs" still hasn't been updated & no other dino encyclopedia for kids comes close: http://www.pnso.org/?p=1464 ) & the "Dinosaur Museum series" (which, based on this interview, combines the best aspects of "Zoobooks" & "DK Eyewitness Books" w/Chuang's artistic & Yang's story-telling expertise: http://www.pnso.org/?p=1498 ). It's also worth mentioning their Youtube channel, which (in addition to Witton's "The Palaeoartist's Handbook: Recreating Prehistoric Animals in Art") is an especially good source for those who wanna learn to draw prehistoric animals ( https://www.youtube.com/@PNSO2010/playlists ).

Bravo Model's over on instagram added lips to the new Cameron the Tyrannosaurus.

To me, it is crazy to think that the addition of lips makes this model seem more realistic and actually alive.

I still think I prefer dinosaur_models_artworks due to the full repaint.

Faelrin

Man that looks so good. Like if only it was like that to begin with.

Blade-of-the-Moon

It's a nicely done piece, just reminds me of Rebor's and actually a bit of the new W-Dragon Stan model. I wonder what Kiss would look like painted exactly the same and displayed with this one?

SidB

Very fine work indeed avatar_Bread @Bread , the interior junction of teeth and gums with the lips seems to have been exquisitely handled with complete precision.

New release, Wally the Albertosaurus.
Finally, and I love the running pose!!

Lynx

Ehh, I'm holding off on theropods right now, but it definitely looks nice! If I were to get an Albertosaurus though I'd just get the Safari one
An oversized house cat.

Carnoking

Even by PNSO standards, that's one gnarly looking face. Honestly don't love it...

Color wise it seems to be a bit more greenish than the Daspletosaurus. I probably like this one better than the Daspletosaurus, but it's definitely not in the same league as the Lythronax and Cameron. But I will pick this one up.

Edit: I wonder if the Gorgosaurus will be released on short notice as well, just like PNSO did with the Daspletosaurus and Lytbronax.

The sooner this will happen, the sooner there will be light at the end of the tunnel for herbivore collectors. Do not get me wrong. All these 7 theropods that PNSO has released this year are beautiful models at a very high level of sculpting and paint work. If I were a theropod fan, I would get them all, no doubt about this. But I have mostly restricted myself to the herbivores. If PNSO may issue an Irritator this year, I may actually consider to get the Irritator and the Suchomimus. T

Funny you say that, I had to take a second look at the model when I saw it in my instagram feed. I thought it was W-Dragon's lipped Tyrannosaurus ::)

It reminds me of the issue with the Sinraptor unfortunately.

I am a little pushed back by the "dragon-head" look this model has. On one hand, I am now sending all PNSO therapods (that I like of course) to get their lips done :-*
BUT, can this one look better with the lips or will the "dragon-head" still be an issue?

The pose is really the savior here in my opinion. I love its dynamic posture compared to the calm previous Tyrannosaurs which I do love too. Something to stand out helps the shelf.

suspsy

I like the Safari version better. Has lips and a more exciting colour scheme.

So this has finally been revealed (officially). Thoughts haven't substantionally changed since it was leaked earlier. As before, I still prefer the Safari Ltd one (colors and lips), even if it awaits to be seen in hand still. Now I'm just waiting to see if/when that leaked Gorgosaurus is going to release.
