Models modified by Artists! From various social media platforms…

****Updated February 12th 2024! With the arrival of Haolonggood and the apparent inclusion of other brands that often get repainted, I decided to alter this thread to "Models modified by Artists!" Not so very catchy, but if anyone else has a better idea let me know. Again, this is really because I find that other modified figures need a spotlight since they are pretty much the same modifications done on some to the likes of PNSO. As well as feel free to share!****

With the waves of therapods being revealed by PNSO, we have come to the one issue we're not too happy about with these therapods. No lips.

Luckily, there are artist you can hire to fix this issue.

Here, you can share your PNSO custom therapods with the addition of lips. Either from an artist or your own. Feel free to post additional PNSO customs that don't even involve the addition of lips.

I'll share a few here made by dinosaur_models_artworks and Bravo Models

Thanks for setting up the thread 😁

SenSx

Thanks for the thread (my new home  ;D )

So I'm probably getting lips for the following figures:

- Cameron Rex
- Giganotosaurus
- Acrocanthosaurus
- Torvosaurus
- Yutyrannus

I'm hesitating to get a full new painting (double price) on them or keeping the original color scheme.
Does anyone have some pictures of the figures I listed with lips and original PNSO colors kept on it ?
If that exists (except for Cameron Rex I can see above)

Thanks

Bread

Unfortunately I do not SenSx, I do have more photos to share that include some of the species you listed. Hope this at least helps:

Above are done by dinosaur_models_artworks.
Below are done by Bravo Models.

avatar_SenSx @SenSx I've noticed that Bravo tends to gravitate towards matching the colorscheme to its original stock release compared to dinosaur_models_artworks who does 99% of the time complete repaints. They both make excellent pieces and in my opinion, it is worth the extra bit of cash for a full repaint made by either of them.

Also, dinosaur_models_artworks sent me a sneak peek following up with my Cameron the Tyrannosaurus being done up. I will reveal the finalized rendition of it when complete:

I really recommend you have the models ordered to his location. Lanatimeshop being the best option, and usually it's free shipping to his location.

It's more of a hastle and costly having them ship to you then you ship to him. I've had many orders to him, all making their voyage to him safely.

BTW, avatar_Bread @Bread , I'm having a major access issue via Instagram , are Bravo accessible otherwise? Are they a U.S. company or overseas?

Instagram has been very buggy for me lately. This app has been known to have spontaneous down time and accessing issues. I'd try again now or later today.

Bravo Models, from what I can see, so far only uses instagram. He is an artist in Mexico.

I'd be happy to ask him for you if you are interested in having a custom done by him via email. Just let me know S @SidB

Halichoeres

Quite a nice gallery of customs here. Now has anyone altered a PNSO sauropod to have lips?

That's gracious of you, avatar_Bread @Bread . I'm waiting to see how the W-Dragon rex turns out and decide. Should be within 2-3 weeks.

Well I'm hesitating with the W-Dragon as well !
The PNSO with added lips will cost more in the end...but I think I prefer it over the W-Dragon.

I did not even think of that solution thanks !
And Lanatimeshop seems to be cheaper than my usuall europen seller ( Everything Dinosaur who is alwready quite cheap).
But I will have to send my other figures anyway, so it might not change anything.

I notice that Bravo's mods result in a typically deeper lower jaw, and ever-so-slightly deeper 'lip skirt' on the upper jaw, than DMA.

DMA's paint apps are stunningly gorgeous, but I prefer Bravo's "face". You really cannot go wrong with either artist!

Out of curiosity how much does either artist charge for something like this?

avatar_Halichoeres @Halichoeres That's something I want to see as well, such as with their recent Lingwulong.

I'll drop you a PM.
I'll give an estimate and price I received from both artist:

dinosaur_models_artworks typically charges about $80 for medium sized therapods with lips + repaint, like PNSO's medium size therapods line, but I think the museum line Tyrannosaurus like Cameron is above $80. I could be wrong as I haven't been given final estimate. Just assume it will be $80+ then you have to consider the cost of shipping. That is usually the heavy hitter as I've paid anywhere from $30 to $60 for shipping from Spain to me (USA).

Bravo Models gave me an estimate for the PNSO Albertosaurus lips + repaint at about $120 + shipping. Bravo is located in Mexico, so the shipping isn't overseas expensive for me, but I have yet to get a model from him yet, so I'll provide that price later.

So this is really up to you on which artist you rather have commissioned. Whether it be price or you like certain pieces done over another, etc.

I know that each artists has their backlog of projects so please be patient with them.

REMEMBER! This does not include the model itself. You have to purchase that model and pay for the shipping of the model to the artist location.

Thank you both avatar_Over9K @Over9K and avatar_Bread @Bread I can't go for something like this year, but maybe if things are better for me next year, I could save up quite a bit within a few months time to have on hand for something like that.

I also figured that last bit would be the case, but it's very good for you to mention that too, not just for me, but any one that heeds this advice.

The other alternative (maybe cheaper?) would be to attempt it myself, but I am unsure of what material to use for custom work like this. Clearly not Sculpey I would think since that requires baking. Though I do know of some clay stuff out there that doesn't require baking, like Crayola's if they still make it, although not quite ideal for something of this nature either. I haven't sculpted anything in a while either, but I do have a tiny bit of experience of making custom clay figures back in high school (all since destroyed and/or stuck in my parents storage unit auctioned off like ten years ago).

Last thing I did was my Greererpeton (still unfinished to this day), and that was completely by hand, no tools at the time. I have gotten tools back in 2021, but obviously sitting in storage now, with my current situation, and not on hand.

Edit: Also, in case anyone took at the thread I linked, all those other figures I had planned, but never around to sculpting was because of my depression and long covid these past couple of years. A real shame honestly.

avatar_Faelrin @Faelrin I prefer Green Stuff. It's a two part compound that doesn't require baking. It becomes gradually less tacky as it cures. I usually start right away, affixing it to the model I'm working on and going from there. It hardens about as hard as most toy plastic.

Try Aves Apoxie sculpt, a binary, air-cured, epoxy-clay. Comes in 4oz, 8oz and 1lb sizes, and several colors.

It's a little spendy (1lb $30), but it's super easy to use, takes detail sculpting very nicely, and the resulting finish is semi-matte, so it takes primer/paint really well.

I've used it to (badly) make bases for figures, as a ground medium for diorama plants, and I've even used it to solve several wobbly theropod feets.

I also noticed there is sometimes a little gap with the closed moth dinos with DMA compare to Bravo, but DMA is still great + the possibility to have full repaint, and given my localization it's easier to go with DMA.
