Carnoking

Ekrixnatosaurus is the easy standout here. Everything else will be a fairly easy pass for me.

Carnoking

Although I will say, it's nice to see carnivores without big ice cream cone teeth.

I noticed the Gryposuchus uses the same or slightly retooled version of the Sarcosuchus back piece. I don't know enough about that animal, but I'm guessing that isn't right? No doubt it was for the below reason.

The cost cutting on these are getting pretty bad though. Barely any paint on this latest batch. Like compared to 2018's line, this is pretty sad. It's no wonder folks are dropping the mainline and focusing on HC.

The Hesperosaurus has a painted beak and plates cast in a different color. Good enough for me! Curious about the tail end though.

There are few mainline toys I pay full price for anymore. I mostly just wait for inevitable sales and clearance. That is unless I think it will be rare.

I'm wondering that as well. I know the 2021 Kentrosaurus, this year's Gigantspinosaurus, and last year's Miragaia all got neglected in that regard, so I'm not too hopeful. I will be surprised if they do though.

Edit: Upon closer inspection on the packaging of this figure, you can see the tail spikes are also unpainted.

That Hesperosaurus is... something. Seems like the Miragaia sculptor with the short torso, big head, and oversized beak. The Ekrixinatosaurus is super awesome-bro, gonna be a sight to see on a shelf. That and the Gryposuchus are the ones I'm most pumped for, undoubtedly.
On and off dinosaur collecting phases over the span of millions of years has led me to this very forum.

Nice to see the colors are darker than what we saw at SDCC.

Ekrixnatosaurus: looks like another nice chunky abelisaur I like it. I really want to stand in a toy aisle and hear parents try to pronounce this..
Gryposaurus: I know nothing about this crocodilian, so  I can safely pass it.
Megalosaurus: I have no Megalosaurus in my collection anywhere, I suppose this will suffice.
Hesperosaurus : Why does it have a turtle head?

Ekrix and Grypo are easy purchases for me. Both look stellar sculpt-wise. Megalosaurus isn't bad to me, but I can't say I'm going to buy it at all. It's too generic. I also hate those bloody scutes up the front of the legs. They look gross.

The teeth on the carnivores are big improvements to see, so I'm glad they're working on that.

Hesperosaurus looks like all of the problems of Mattel's design aesthetics wrapped up into one figure. It's a shame, but Kentrosaurus aside, Jurassic stegosaurs look horrible to begin with. They're some of the biggest retrosaurs around and I have zero qualms about skipping them.

Gwangi

Having second thoughts about the Hesperosaurus and Ekrix. I'm thinking I need the latter more than the former at this point, even if it is another theropod.

EmperorDinobot

E @Eatmycar Megalosaurus is the very definition of generic theropod  ;D
That is why it was a wastebasket taxon for everything from Poekilopleuron to Dilophosaurus, and even theropods occurring in Gondwana discovered back in the day. Even the word "mega" means generic.

The Gryposuchus could easily be passed off as a Thoracosaurus if one so desired.

Too many Triceratops toys at this point, Mattel. How about Torosaurus or Bravoceratops or Titanoceratops instead?

I guess that solves what the mysterious green dinosaur on the top right is. Much like the Piatnitzkysaurus and Elaphrosaurus, I fail to see how the sculpt in any way correlates with the genus it's meant to represent (a basal sauropodomorph). Really hope I'm wrong about the identification though, would be a shame to let a prosauropod spot go to waste.

avatar_Flaffy @Flaffy Zooming in on it by like 500%, it seems to start with an S. So maybe Suchosaurus, or Szechuanosaurus, if not something else. The other names on that leaked image were definitely Kaprosuchus, and Tuojiangosaurus (now officially confirmed as well), despite the otherwise horrible image compression, but then again they were also pretty distinctive with what they were.

I think they did a pretty decent job with the Eoraptor, and this year's Herrerasaurus, so hopefully this one is more representative, and not actually that green theropod looking one that was leaked earlier.

Hopefully we get a better look at some of those soon enough.

Also speaking of the Eoraptor, I wonder if the spines on top of the Dinosaur Revolution male model served as inspiration for the design of this figure?

Edit: The raptor has been revealed. Just a repack of the 2022 Legacy one from the looks of it, though maybe with a slightly different paint app.
