Chinese novelty figures - New for 2023 (various companies)

In addition to the Animal Planet/Animal Heavenly Body figures that avatar_Flaffy @Flaffy posted about recently, there are a couple of other companies making highly stylized figurines. Here, for example, is a Stomatosuchus. LaNa has it listed for about $50 (it's resin, but that's still a lot of money for what it is).

Why can't someone make a Stomatosuchus for real?

More to come...

Wow. That's incredibly disappointing that the very first figure of this enigmatic croc is of a cutesy overpriced resin statue. This genus seems right up CollectA's alley though, so maybe there is hope.

Also from Dino Roll/Kong Species Studio:

Iguanodon
Therizinosaurus
Allosaurus
Ceratosaurus
Amargasaurus
Sauropelta

From earlier this year, Dino Roll Deinosuchus:

Obviously for a different sort of collector than me. Maybe this appeals to the same tastes that keep Funko Pop figures popular.

Gigantopithecus
Megaloceros
Titanoboa
Meiolania

avatar_BlueKrono @BlueKrono have you seen this turtle?

They appeal to fans of the ever popular chibi style. Funko Pops are based on that as well, but most of them end up looking more creepy than cute. Dino Roll figures kinda look like they are on drugs.
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Stegotyranno420

They were so close to becoming Haolonggood 2 (or PNSO 3) in terms of diversity (and i guess accuracy, even though obviously stylized , I think their yangchuanosaurus has lips for example.) if they didnt make it "cibi"

avatar_Halichoeres @Halichoeres Where is that Titanoboa and Meiolania available at? Aliexpress or lana? Despite their heavy stylization, it's nice to see more figures of those reptiles.

Lana has them, and Pop Shack Store on Ali Express. Some have also appeared on eBay.

And yeah, I agree, even though these are mostly not my kind of thing, I think it's a positive development when something like Meiloania gets some attention. Titanoboa is less exciting in my estimation, being based on just a couple of vertebrae.

I mean, collectively they're already more diverse than Haolonggood, and giving PNSO a run for their money. But they're clearly not trying to compete for the same market.

I found them on Aliexpress and it turns out they're like clocks or something? Certainly not figures in the conventional sense.

Here's an image of the Titanoboa from the Jurassic Zoo Store listing:

Well, not clocks, but clockwork. The removable panels give them a sort of steampunk vibe. Bit of a strange geekdom crossover!

The first series, released in 2022, had the same thing:

I am so perplexed by these items. Such a strange confluence of things - models of prehistoric animals, some rather obscure, in a compact paperweight form factor, well-observed but superdeformed, but actually they're automata. Who is this aimed at? Is there some whole culture of people who are into things like this, or is it just one lunatic's passion project?

Faelrin

avatar_Halichoeres @Halichoeres Ah okay, yeah that makes a lot more sense.

avatar_Newt @Newt I can only wonder the same thing, lol. I think they are kind of neat though.

I like the idea that it's a lunatic's passion project. I can relate, being something of a lunatic myself.

From an outfit called Nirvana Studio:

Dunkleosteus
nautilus
Anomalocaris
Mosasaurus
Otodus
trilobite (I think it's Walliserops)
and a mystery figure that looks like Acutiramus

I ordered myself a cf. Walliserops

2023 proportionally accurate Dunkleosteus figure lol

Faelrin

Yeah I kind of need that "notice me senpai" Anomalocaris. Definitely 2 of the Walliserops, because I need them in fighting position like some extant beetles do, which is like one of the recent papers suggested their tridents/forks were for (and I have no idea how I never made that connection in all the years, but man it makes so much sense). Probably the Dunkleosteus, eurypterid, and nautilus as well. Where do you buy these? And how much?

Edit: The google translations are pretty interesting/hilarious.

About $30 apiece, so not cheap.

Thanks; I just ordered the trilobite, too, and agree with an identification of Walliserops trifurcatus
