Quote from: Sim on March 07, 2024, 04:54:53 PMIt's remarkable how far we've come since the Battat Acrocanthosaurus, which was once considered the best allosauroid figure and was very rare and sought after.  Now there are many great allosauroid figures, which are also much better than the Battat figure.
It sort of pained me not to vote for it. Back about ten years ago  or so, it reigned as the best Acro. I remember getting my original copy (which I still have) from the former member avatar_thelordsgym @thelordsgym  for about 70 USD and considered myself fortunate as the Battat Acrocanthosaurus was semi-legendary and relatively scarce to boot.

Thanks to everyone who has voted!  Please vote if you haven't already, each vote makes the poll worth more.  And we might be able to get just one figure in first place!

Sim

Well, one figure is in first place now!  The rankings have changed a bit since I made the video for this poll.  avatar_DinoToyForum @DinoToyForum needs some time to complete the video, so I might make a new video for this poll with the most recent top 10.  I'm surprised the ceratopsoid and stegosaurian polls got over 40 votes while this poll currently hasn't.  I thought people love allosauroids which is why companies keep making gazillions of them?

That's funny!  It's not my fault some argue Saurophaganax is distinct from Allosaurus.  I don't think it is...

Too late for the PNSO Tyrannotitan and the Mattel Becklespinax and HC Giganotosaurus, but I wonder how they would have faired if included.

I doubt any Jurassic World toy would fair well in a DTF poll.

Sim

I'm surprised the Battat Acrocanthosaurus has entered the top 10 while the Carnegie Concavenator is pushed out.  I thought the Concavenator was liked more than that..  Also, I see the PNSO 2023 Giganotosaurus and Mapusaurus are below the Carnegie and Eofauna Giganotosaurus, when the first two are better figures...

Sim

avatar_DinoToyForum @DinoToyForum, is it time for a video for this poll? O:-)  The top 10 have changed since the video I sent you, shall I make a new video for this poll?

I'm going to change my vote for Saurpphaganax since apparently (and convincingly, IMO) it's a sauropod.

Sim

The Haolonggood Concavenator seems to be a somewhat divisive figure, I wonder how it would do in this poll?  I think it might end up being the new most popular Concavenator figure.  I wonder how the PNSO Tyrannotitan would do too...?

SidB

What with the Saurophaganax/ sauropod and Miragaia/ Dacentrurus issues and absence of all the great 2024 ceratopsoids reaspectively on these three ongoing secondary polls and in the absence of the old traditional visuals for the final outcomes, maybe it's time to reset the whole works. It took a very long time to get the polling numbers that we now have, but I don't think that interest in polls has expired yet. At least I'm hoping that's so.

Sim

S @SidB, I tried creating a video for this poll with the latest results but I wasn't sure if it would get posted by avatar_DinoToyForum @DinoToyForum so I asked him about it but got no reply...  I would like to see these polls concluded and then we can move onto new polls, but I don't know if Dr Admin still has interest in this...  I am happy to make top 10 videos for these polls still.

I, for one, greatly appreciate your commitment to this ongoing project, avatar_Sim @Sim . Maybe Dr. Admin is simply too busy to tackle the intricacies of bringing this to completion. You could use me as a sort of  "foot in the door" to ask him again if this phase of the project could get completed?

There are a few factors at play. Yes, I'm busy, with work and personal things, so there are always other duties jostling for my attention. But also, to be frank, my heart isn't completely in the DinoToyBlog channel any more, probably because I'm jaded from my unpleasant experience with Youtube. I'm no longer posting videos to Youtube out of principle, and post videos to the Fediverse/DTB instead, but the general experience of making/watching videos feels tainted. I used to have fun getting creative with the top 10 videos, but now it feels like a chore, and as a consequence the videos end up by the numbers and I can't help but feel they are a bit pointless. Likewise, I've not filmed any unboxings for a while, because I'm never in the mood and really have to be motivated to do a good job and to make sure my reactions are genuine. I've been enjoying writing DTB/MTB reviews instead and my relative productivity on that front recently is a direct consequence of making fewer videos.

And while I appreciate that some of you have helped me to create some top 10 videos, I'm a bit picky about the editing and style, since the videos are 'official' DTB content, so even with assistance I feel obliged to get involved. Also, my computer is old now and struggles to deal with iMovie as reliably as it used to, so that puts another barrier in the way. I know myself and must wait for a little spark, which will come, but I can't force it.

SidB

Thank you, avatar_DinoToyForum @DinoToyForum , for this sharing of the dynamics behind your situation as regards to these videos. It ought not to take anyone too much imaginative stretching to "get" a sense of the emotional and temporal wrestling that you have to do to push ahead with these videos in the face of the factors that you outlined. I certainly can relate to these factors, mutatis mutandis, in the face of the cut and thrust of personal and career challenges in my own life. No doubt most of us can 'ditto' this.

To paraphrase Gandalf in LOTR (the text), we should expect these videos when we see them (and not before!). And that is quite okay and appropriate. Thank you again for your remarkable transparency and ongoing shepherding of the DTB/DTF. We owe you a great debt!

Sim
