American Mastodon (Mammut americanum)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Back to form with their fantastic proboscideans! Might be a Mastodon? Hopefully M. pacificus as the Safari ltd one is M. americanum.

Hopefully they will still find time to complete the ornithischia book. It would be much welcomed.

Looks like it's mostly hairless? I'll admit my knowledge of ancient Proboscideans is limited but I have a hard time wrapping my head around a "hairless" Mastodon, is that the current idea?

:D Wonderful! Wonderful! What will it be? Columbian mammoth? I can't wait.

Faelrin

I'm glad to see another proboscidean from them. Can't wait to see what it is.

Mark wrote a good article discussing Mammut integument.

I might be wrong, but I think I can see textures on the sculpt indicating a sparse coat of hair?

Thank you for sharing, I will be sure to give that a read! I know he has done similar discussions on ground sloth and Deinocheirus integument, so this will be interesting

Mods or avatar_DinoToyForum @DinoToyForum, since the mastodon won't come out until 2025, can we split that discussion to a new thread?
In the kingdom of the blind, better take public transit. Well, in the kingdom of the sighted, too, really--almost everyone is a terrible driver.

And can we please add the Schleich 2025 thread to the new subforum as well?

Nice, but I'm also fully satisfied with my Safari one.

I wasn't initially interested in this mastodon since I have Safari's but I'm gonna break my one-per-genus rule on this one, a somewhat common occurrence with dinosaurs but not with mammals. I'm from the Hudson Valley region of NY, which is basically ground zero for mastodon fossils, so I have a lot of love for them. Also, I see that this one has a sparser coat than Safari's. That got me Googling and I found a Mark Witton post about mastodon hair. You can read the post for yourself but it ultimately convinced me that I needed Eofauna's mastodon to pair with Safari's shaggier version.

American mastodon (Mammut americanum)
I'm assuming that this figure will be in the 1/35 range. As such, it will be smaller the Safari's model.

Flaffy

Was really hoping for a Pacific Mastodon. Oh well, still quite happy that Eofauna tackled this famous extinct species. Will display nicely alongside Doug's one, which I consider to be one of Safari's finest mammals.

suspsy

I also am tempted by this less hairy mastodon.

I love it- can't wait to add it to my herd of their elephantine models!

Jorgesaurus

I'm looking forward to this mastodon, I love it and if I got it right, I hope they also release a dinosaur next to the mastodon by 2025
