the Velociraptor is simply unacceptable

Well..the colors are nice I guess and I know Schleich loves their repaints but wow, the bar was literally on the floor...

SidB

I recently picked up a trio of Schleich African Bush Elephants at the Calgary Zoo's shop ( see New Aquisitions, if interested). What a contrast in quality. A quite different artist(s) doubtless.

Libraraptor

Disappointments only except for the mammoth.

Fembrogon

Well, the fantasy mammals look cool, I'll give them credit for that. I think that reflects the reality of their in-house style quite bluntly, though.

In regards to the horrible-looking feet, I feel like the sculptors are trying to model the fancy footwork we see from PNSO and the like, where the foot is mid-step. The problem is, Schleich's sculptors clearly don't understand, and aren't paying attention to, the details of how theropod foot anatomy actually works; thus we get dino figures with entirely new joints in their feet.

As a random aside, I was recently visiting a local Barnes & Noble, and got to handle some recent Schleich dinos in person, including the horrendous Moros. That cursed has me chuckling out loud in the store over how bad it was. Sad, really, for an "education"-based company.

EmperorDinobot

^ Moros has joints that don't exist in nature. It's worse in person than it is in the photos.

Kroger stores are de-Schleichifying themselves. The shelves that once housed them are sitting empty and a lot of figures are in the clearance section, which is nice, but they never carried anything that interested me anyways, like the big playsets. This can mean a few things: They're making space so their lackluster toy section can carry other things, or they're gonna have more edutainment toys, which is an extremely risky and unprofitable venture. Nobody wants edutainment stuff except for us, and some people in affluent neighborhoods. Some meaning very little.

I'm supposed to pick up the 3 Monolophosaurus and the red polacanthid, but I'm short on cash, and mom doesn't wanna drive to the Fred Meyer where I saw them. If the Gryphon is on sale I'll pick it up too. Beautiful figure. Schleich does make beautiful fantasy figures. My sister's phoenix sits in my dad's desk now. I'm not sure she even saw it. She was still in a coma when I got it for her.
I might end up collecting those...noooo...
When the fantasy figures end up looking more realistic than your dinosaurs, you have a problem.

Some higher res images just surfaced:

Are those... feathers on the raptors arms? It looks more like it recently lost a massive amount of weight but hasn't had the skin removal yet.

The Velociraptor's smile is literally sparkling! ;D What an odd photoshop choice.

EmperorDinobot

It is a good teaching tool for a kid's dental practice.

Off topic: are they overmedicating kids here? They get put under for every little cavity.

As for the bad molded feathers, they've had them ever since they released the second jp-inspired raptor. "Oh no it's the Schleich raptor again" should be a tag group.

CityRaptor

When in doubt, blame the Colby Brothers. These three would probably do something like that.

But yeah, the poor excuse for feathers looking more like skin hanging down the arms has been a problem for Schleich "Velociraptors" for a while.
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

avatar_DinoToyForum @DinoToyForum My first thought was that it had a grill lol.

I'm surprised there's so much discussion on that raptor though since it is only a repaint. This sculpt has been around for years now (2018):

Nearly all their previous raptors were in this style too.

2014:

2012:

Those are the raptors I am referring to, and I have two of them. I didn't ask, they sort of showed up here like dinos used to do.

Faelrin

avatar_EmperorDinobot @EmperorDinobot I have two of the green 2014 ones (although now in storage somewhere). Both ended up along with a bunch of other figures I wouldn't have sought out in a haul that had quite a bit I did want (but mostly the Toyway Allosaurus). It was split up between me and two other folks on instagram a few years back. I ended up with whatever they didn't want (plus what I wanted) lol.

They're low priority. I just wanted to be able to picture them together, except I kinda did.
I don't really care for variants all that much, but these are too hard to ignore, and they aren't like Safari (Carnegie) variants, which are usually reissues. These were all released at the same time aand only now I'm noticing because I saw them together at a Kroger that was de-Schleichifying itself. This poses a problem for me because even though they are low priority, I'm kind of obsessed now. The one I'm missing is the one on top, the lighter, more apple green one. All Krogers in my area are discounting (haha right) and getting rid of all of their Schleich stuff because they just aren't moving. It's very niche, and people don't seem to play with toys here...like at all. in 13 years all 6 goodwills in my vicinity never have toys. Kroger is replacing that are with nothing but Nerf guns so kids can have a well regulated militia.
I consider that a shame because Nerf guns are a 1-2 time use only, and models are forever. But Kroger has very limited toy space, and nerf guns are huge, and that's what kids wants, not scores of Bayala unicorns that never, ever sell. It's a shame because Schleich's non dinosaur items are actually very decent, but Kroger fails to carry the best of the best more often than not. They could have the playsets and stuff, but they have none of that. Oh, and one of the reasons they don't move is because Kroger overprices them for like $3.00 more, so if you go to the clearance section and are lucky to find ne, the price will be the same as Happy Hen's.
Still, this all sucks because even if we all kind of dislike Schleich, I think model figures are better than Nerf guns, they deserve a space in a world where dinosaurs/animal models don't sell outside of the internet, and it makes me happy to see them because I bought my sister some models, like the phoenix, to adorn her hospital room with. They were already beginning to crack in March. And I'm sorry, but Schleich's Phoenix is better than Papo's and Safari's. I'd buy their figures sometimes, like once a year for species I didn't have, or to get the ugliest possible ones, like Moros the other day, and I think that figure got lucky.

I can't buy Monolophosaurus in the internet because there's no guarantee I'll get the apple green one. I can't buy JW dinos on the internet because they often have misapplied paint apps around their eyes. Buying dinosaurs on the internet from the source is risky.

EmperorDinobot

Well, um...

Harder to kill than a Periplaneta americana, this was my town's Kroger/FM. Missing, ofc is the Monolophosaurus, which I still fumble upon pronunciation. t=Try saying it 5 times super fast, it's not as easy as Dilophosaurus.

This means that the investigations begins anew, and that I cannot find this

Which led me to Moros (coming soon) and to this investigation, I mean, the article is a failure. *shrug*

Shoulda been investigating which green is on the JW Suchomimus instead.

Do you pronounce it as "maw-no-LOW-fuh-soar-us" or "muh-NAW-luff-uh-soar-us"

Except mono and lopho aren't phoneticized, they aren't one syllable, and there's no stresses. You just wrote out the name again.
