1:35-1:40 (Miscellaneous)

This is my shelf of (mostly) around 1:35-1:40 scale figures that don't fit into any of my formation displays. I've arranged them roughly in chronological order, from right to left. Some of them will be part of formation displays eventually, once I've acquired enough other figures from the same formation. Others are figures I bought, or kept from my childhood days, just because I particularly like them.

Looks like David Krentz's Ekrixinatosaurus. Available on Shapeways, though apparently they've gone under.

That's right, it's the 1:40 Krentz Ekrixinatosaurus from Shapeways. Glad I got one before Shapeways shut down!

A new addition to my small Favorite collection – the V1 Plesiosaurus.

It's a nice rendition of Plesiosaurus, although I still hope to get the Kaiyodo version.

Here it is with the V2 – you can tell the latter was probably based on Cryptoclidus, as the proportions are totally different:

It also scales pretty well with the Kaiyodo Ichthyosaurus:

Halichoeres

I have my same-scale items arranged chronologically left-to-right, so this arrangement surprised me at first, but one makes exactly as much sense as the other as far as I can tell. I have one cabinet that has the oldest taxa at the bottom and the youngest at the top, which is satisfyingly like stratigraphy.

The Series 1 Plesiosaurus is one of several that outshines its Series 2 successor.

I think left-to-right always feels more intuitive for anyone who's a native speaker of English, or any other language that's written that way. If I had it that way round, though, I'd have to angle them the other way, and then some of them wouldn't display so well (like the Gryposaurus, whose face would be hidden).

I like them both, to be honest. I'm using them as different genera, so it doesn't feel like a comparison. The V2 serves as my Cryptoclidus, as per avatar_DinoToyForum @DinoToyForum's blog review which states it resembles that genus more.

Western Interior Seaway, c. 1:30 scale

  • Cretoxyrhina (PNSO)
  • Dolichorynchops (CollectA)
  • Nyctosaurus (3D print by Haolonggood)
  • Pteranodon longiceps (Schleich)
  • Scapanorhynchus (Safari Toob)
  • Xiphactinus (CollectA)

Not my most well-lit shelf, admittedly. Also the only one that's 50% fish (well, technically all the species in my collection are fish, but you know what I mean).

I really like the line-up. The Pteranodon is one of Schleich's better figures and the Nyctosaurus has a nice paint :) .

Can you get the Nyctosaurus diorama from Haolonggood just by itself or did you trade somebody for it?

The Nyctosaurus came with one of their bases, the same one that was given as a gift with pre-orders of the Alamosaurus. I don't have the Alamosaurus - I bought the base separately.

Is that a custom painted HLG Nyctosaurus? He's very cute!

Yes it is! Thanks  ;D
There's a better picture of it in my custom paints thread.

I bought some miniature diorama bases off eBay recently, which are useful for displaying smaller figures. With these I've been able to create several mini formation displays. These all fit approximately into 1:85-1:100 scale.

Recently got my hands on the reissued Marco Makes Prehistoric Mesozoic Planet T. rex.

This is my first Marco Makes figure, and I'm pretty happy with it. It's made from a lightweight resin material and feels like it might be hollow.

In the absence of an official Prehistoric Planet toyline, this makes a pretty good substitute.

avatar_Elengassen @Elengassen , that's an interesting rex. Do you know approximately what scale it would be?

I measured it earlier – it's about 23cm, which would put it around 1:50-1:55 scale.

Ah, thanks. That puts it in the same general range as my Favorite Co. rexes, maybe a mite smaller.
