You're arguing that the pleasure they get from including an invertebrate (indeed, the only invertebrate announced for 2025 thus far) in the banner cannot possibly be greater or equal in importance to the distress that you claim occurs simply because said invertebrate happens to be clutching a small fish in its pincer. On that note, just how much distress are we talking about here? Does this toy really put you in the yellow zone or the red zone every single time you happen to see it?

I would say that the secret of people in a community getting on well with each other (or avoid falling apart) lies more in avoiding doing things that are hard to cope with for some rather than doing things that please some. This is a centuries old wisdom and it is good advice to take this into account.

I would counter that democracy matters even more and that it is wholly impossible to accommodate or satisfy every single need, demand, and request. And that coping is life.

I suppose this forum would be classified as a benevolent dictatorship rather than a democracy.

Keep in mind, all of this discussion has been about the banner, a strip at the top that disappears when you scroll down that has thumbnail-sized pics.

As more and more people acquire the Jaekelopterus they will undoubtedly be posting on this forum, maybe in their personal collection threads, Recent Acquisitions, or the Prehistoric Invertebrates thread. So, it's gonna show up, with its little fishy too!

I am reviewing the Jaekelopterus for the Blog and not only will I not cover, conceal, or sensor the fish, a part of the review will probably focus on the fish, since it's also a rarely-represented taxon/group.

JW/JP figures have been discussed peripherally in this thread. Although I also am not a fan of Mattel JP/JW figures, I think there should be at least one in the banner. There are a lot of them, they are very popular (especially with several forum members), and in recent years have been featured prominently on the Blog! It would be a shame to exclude them entirely from the banner (I haven't followed every post, so maybe others have suggested one?).

A few Mattels have been suggested.

To me, the banner is one of the least important and interesting things here. No reason to get this excited about it.

So please let us solve the situation, not the "problem".

That sea scorpion without the fish to me seems like the perfect compromise.

But a cornerstone of a liberal democracy is respecting and honoring the needs of minorities. If not for that it would become a dictatorship of the majority over the minority.

Respecting the needs of minorities is not the same as meeting all of them. Besides, the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few, as a wise Vulcan once noted.

And besides, I reckon this issue is over and done with. I'm done discussing it.

I think this has strayed far enough into the realm of politics now that we must put a pin in it. C:-) After all, we aren't all gathered here to solve the problems of society, we're gathered here to choose what toys we'd like to see on a forum banner. I know it's important, but not *that* important! ;D

Some of my ideas:
Hlg Argentino
HLG Stego
Eofauna Tyranno
Pnso Yang (maybe too late)
Papo Sucho
Mesozoic life spino?

of course im just throwing these out as some of my fav figures from 2024, not the whole banner. I just think theyre neat.

Of course, i would like the idea of more diversity avatar_Concavenator @Concavenator said, and we can compromise about these things. I dont wish to start up the derailed discussions again, but just to offer my cents, i can understand the uneasiness some might feel for arthropods, as much as I liked the eurypterid.

Sim

Thanks everyone who has shown consideration for my situation.  To be clear, I don't have a problem with an arthropod being in the banner, I feel uneasy at seeing predation in action as frequently as I would if the figure was in the banner.  I have no problem with its future Dinosaur Toy Blog review, as it would not be something I would encounter very frequently so I can handle it.  I don't know how I'll feel about the figure being in the banner with the fish edited out.  I guess I'll see if it goes in like that.  Since this thread is for what we'd like in the 2025 banner, I will say I would prefer a sea scorpion figure by Kaiyodo or Colorata to CollectA's.

Torvosaurus

I don't know enough about Mattel/Jurassic Park toys to make a suggestion, I just don't collect them. But I certainly think one should be on the banner. They are definitely toys where a lot of other figures are more along the lines of collectibles than toys. I can see a kid playing with Jurassic Park/World toys of all sizes, but I don't see anybody playing with the Haolonggood Argentinosaurus for example.

Kids could play with the Haolonggood Argentinosaurus by using it as a slide. :))

suspsy

I can easily think of one Mattel toy that belongs on the banner: the Styxosaurus.

Faelrin

avatar_suspsy @suspsy That's actually a really good one to suggest, as we are in a bit of a drought for marine reptile figures (Mojo Fun's and Yowies Cryptoclidus also come to mind) at the moment and that one fits the bill nicely, especially as an underrepresented species.

New banner is up.  8)

This one was really tricky as the images wouldn't 'tetris' together to my complete satisfaction, but I did my best.  O:-)

The position of the eurypterid in the banner on my end reminds me of that one part with Mike in Monsters Inc, lol. Love the final variety of genera and companies represented here.

Haha, it's behind the logo for me too! Unplanned, but all that fuss may have been about nothing!
