Quote from: Sim on December 27, 2024, 09:45:03 PMThe scale I'm focusing on is 1:35.

I guess that means you'd be deleting Dromaeosauridae and Pachycephalosauria from your collection then? I'd assume that means Safari's Qianzhousaurus and PNSO's Gorgosaurus aren't for you either, considering they're in 1:25 scale. Merely asking out of curiosity.

Sim

I'm focusing on 1:35 scale, but I can include figures of different scales if they don't look too out of place.  So I will be keeping my Wild Safari Utahraptor and PNSO Pachycephalosaurus.

I didn't know the Wild Safari Qianzhousaurus isn't in 1:35 scale.  I will be keeping it due to what I said above though, and the PNSO Gorgosaurus as well as I treat it as an adult in my collection.

avatar_Sim @Sim If you're looking for a small, non-articulated, Velociraptor figure, what about the one by Bandai (Display Model Series 2)?

It may be larger than 1:35, and have inaccurate wings and lack a tail fan, but it's still probably the best small, non-articulated, Velociraptor figure currently available (that I know of).

Sim

Thanks avatar_Concavenator @Concavenator!  I don't want dromaeosaurids without rectrices though!  I'm hoping Safari makes a new toob Velociraptor that looks similar to the Safari 2017 Velociraptor!

Have you ever considered experimenting with epoxy putty to sculpt on additional feathers?

Sim

Thanks for the suggestion, but I want the sculpt of my figures to be entirely plastic.  I did sculpt a fourth toe for the Papo pheasant when I removed its base from it as that toe was in grass, but in that case it was by taking away plastic and leaving some behind in the shape of the toe.  I then gave a new paintjob to the figure's feet, for the record.

For what it's worth, epoxy putty is plastic. Some kinds, like Army Painter Green Stuff are mildly pliable when cured too.

Thanks for that crazy8wizard!  I've looked into it and it is an intriguing possibility but right now I don't feel confident enough to sculpt with this material.

Off the top of my head, here are some options for 1:35 mini figures that haven't been mentioned yet:

The CollectA mini Velociraptor and Oviraptor from their mini dinosaur tubes aren't too far off from 1:35, although the Velociraptor is quite ugly and not the most accurate.

There are also the CollectA Hypsilophodon and Koreaceratops figures, although I don't know whether these are still in production.

As I've mentioned elsewhere, Kaiyodo's Dakotaraptor makes a decent 1:35 Deinonychus.

The cheap and widely available 1:35 Tamiya Mesozoic Creatures kit includes a few smaller species, namely Hypsilophodon, Oviraptor and Archaeopteryx. The Oviraptor is naked though, and the Archaeopteryx is way larger than 1:35. Also, this is a kit so you obviously have to assemble and paint the figures yourself.
One day we will know the truth about Spinosaurus... but not today.

Yesterday I looked at my Papo Kaprosuchus and realised I can't part with it.  So I've reconsidered having large figures of small animals and I think I will keep on collecting them.  However I would still like to have mini figures of small animals that work well with my large species!

crazy8wizard

Kaprosuchus is in a weird spot where there is a miniature of it, but it lacks the distinct "ear horns" that Kaprosuchus is known for having

Sim

Yeah, I've got the mini Kaprosuchus coming to me and I think I'll be satisfied with it after painting the eyes and teeth.  I'll treat it as having the horns in the flesh of the neck, like a reconstruction of Kaprosuchus on its Wikipedia page.

Primeval12

I like that one. I measured the skull and it's about 1:33 scale :)

Mini Kaprosuchus? Where do we find this?

Sim

avatar_Georassic @Georassic, the Kaprosuchus is part of the Mattel Jurassic World minis series.  It comes in a box with another species too, out of several species.  I got mine from an ebay seller in the USA, there's a few of the mini Kaprosuchus on ebay last time I checked.  You might alternatively be able to find it in stores in the USA that sell Jurassic World minis.
