Gotta say that sucker is chonky and hefty looking.

I cannot believe that Mattel is temping me to buy ANOTHER T. rex!  ::)

andrewsaurus rex

it seems to me that either the Rebirth movie or Mattel are using the premise to make dinosaur designs that are more up to date and scientifically more accurate eg the shorter legged, flattened tail Spinosaurus and the chunkier T rex.

Dilopho

If it's a different colour to the grey one, does that mean there are two T. rex in the film?
Ooh man, apart from the tongue sticking out (I never liked that on any figure) This really does look good...Very good.

Am I crazy or does it have an ear?

This new sculpt is very reminiscent of the JP T-Rex. I quite like it for this reason. Odd to see this one because it had not been previously announced. Does this mean there are more Rebirth toys to come that had not yet been announced? It's yet to see whether the T-Rex in Rebirth will be as skinny as Rexy in the JW trilogy or more chonky/bulky and if it's a new generation.

avatar_Dilopho @Dilopho I see it too. Man this figure makes me nostalgic for the Legacy chomping T. rex figure from 2018. It was one of my first figures in the new Mattel line back then. Despite being different from the og T. rex design (with those osteoderms on the back), this new sculpt is easily one of their best T. rex sculpts. Just hope the feet aren't oversized like that one lol.

Edit: Found a clip of its action feature (same as old chomping T. rex), and its feet are decently proportioned this time around. Wow, can't believe I want another new T. rex toy this badly, but I do.

it is a nice Rex sculpt.  Too bad it is so small.....just 18 inches.  Mind you the tail is kind of stubby, so it may look bigger and i suspect the head is the same size as all the Rexes we've had up until now from Mattel.

There must be more, we don't have anything for the new Mutant, and I don't believe we have a single pack of a raptor. It would shock me if they didn't release a raptor on its own for the movie

suspsy

It looks nice, but I don't think I can get away with buying my kids a third Mattel T. rex. Maybe I can subtly influence someone into getting it for them as a birthday present.

It might have been mentioned earlier and I just missed it but has anyone heard anything about an official street date for these figures? Not that I'm in any real hurry but I'm curious given that they've been popping up left and right overseas

Target says June 1st, so I assume that's when they release in the US. Wouldn't be surprised if they show up sooner though

avatar_JPuggy @JPuggy This set has one, and there's supposedly another with ScarJo's character.

Ah I forgot about this pack, thank you.

I'm feeling the same, I was so excited to get that one and I was so happy to review it for the blog.
That was the first actual JP one I got to have in my life, and that's of course if we don't count Hasbro's chompin rex because let's be real...that was a JP rex in branding only, it looked absolutely nothing like one.

I have to gripe one more time about the tongue, I don't like tongues that stick out like that, it's always looked goofy to me and it just gets in the way when you're trying to make it actually bite onto something.

As for the raptor thing, I think JPuggy means that there's no Velociraptor on a single card release as part of the Frenzy Pack line.
That really is odd, it's a constant from Mattel that they've offered Velociraptors and Atrociraptors that way. Here in the UK it's always been hard to find vehicle and human packs, so hopefully a single carded raptor is on the way, otherwise I might not be able to get any.

And ideally you should always be able to buy 2 or 3 raptors and make a pack.

The price on that T. rex isn't so good, $50 CAD? That's about £27 GBP.
I'm not quite sure that's worth £30, but whatevers, I'm sure it'll be produced in high numbers and you'll be able to find it for cheaper somewhere.

It's tradition that there's always two rexes available at any given time and that one of them is smaller and cheaper. It's the most popular dinosaur so it makes sense to always give a more budgeted option.

I'm unsure where this image comes from but Jurassic Addict Final Mix posted it on Twitter.
The Lab Lockdown rex compared with the Hammond Collection rex.
The difference is so strong!

andrewsaurus rex

A larger lockdown one with a longer tail would be really nice.

Eatmycar

The posing on the HC Tyrannosaurus makes it look so much worse than it actually is. Of course it looks bad when the legs are together like it's holding in a poop on line at the DMV with its derpy arms out like that.

My complaints with the comparison aside, though, Lab Lockdown might be the best Rex they've done in a while.

stargatedalek

I assume that comparison was trying to show the length, hence the weird pose.

Here's another look at it:

The tail and belly are not painted but the feet claws are (or inserts like the Habitat Defender Triceratops, not sure). I love how bulky it is, and it even has a more up to date arm posture. The color palette reminds me of the 2021 T. rex figures.

Edit: Pretty much the same exact action feature as the chomping T. rex from 2018 and on, just with a brand new sculpt based on the new film design.
