Well I've always been quite sympathetic to characters, I can put myself in their shoes really easily
Imagine if it was you and your friend on the other side of that door in either role

I didn't laugh because someone dies, I just thought it was funny because it was done so badly! Sympathy is earned through character building and good storytelling. So, maybe I'll forgive the over the top cliché and the bad acting when I see the whole film. But I doubt it.

Quote from: Gwangi on May 20, 2025, 05:36:10 PMYou might be right but I still don't like the concept of a third island, and that it's an island of misfit dinosaurs. In all actuality, mistakes would just be culled.

Isn't this the start of a new trilogy? If it is then I bet we get dinosaur/human hybrids by the end of it.

Oh I agree that coming out with another Island out of nowhere is bad, the only explanation for me would be if they say ingen bought this new one first and Nublar after and decided to move their labs closer to Nublar. It still doesn't explain why they left the mistakes alive and would still be an explanation pulled out of the air.

Dreck.

Dreck.

Dreck.

And more dreck.

I seriously laughed out loud at the opening scene in the lab. Good gods, who told that actor it would be a good idea to whine just like my five year old when he's in a bad mood?

I really do wish this franchise would die already.

Glad I'm not alone laughing at that scene. :*D It's like a parody.

That scene in the lab was utterly terrifying. We are SO back baby!

Yes, to each their own, I'm really personally happy with how this is looking.

There's something for everyone this year. Rebirth, WWD, Primitive War, Surviving Earth.
Chaos Theory and Dinosauria 2 too.
It's a very good year to like visual dinosaur media.

Quote from: Dilopho on May 20, 2025, 03:55:15 PMHere's my thoughts on the trailer scenes:

Spoiler
To me this is looking amazing, I genuinely bust out laughing at the Mosasaurus slamming the boat against the cliff because it's so over the top in the best way
We've never had dinosaur action this full of personality and peril for a long time now. They are taking species we've already seen like Mosasaurus and T. rex and putting them back in the spotlight, refreshing them, updating their designs and sending them to play with our human cast with new optimism.

The T. rex scene is what I'm anticipating seeing the most. I LOVE it. I love this rex just slowly following the raft and sinking into the water because it's curious about what it's hunting but so full of casual confidence about its movements. It really has the intimidating aura of an apex predator.

The Titanosaurus is gorgeous. Innacurate but gorgeous. Seeing a huge herd of them interacting and covered in birds, seeing their huge tails curling through the air and touching eachother, they're so much more than set dressing. This is a needed course correction after the JW trilogy mainly used sauropods for decoration. I hope they get to do something scary, of course.

Regarding the Mutadons, I'm a bit mixed, they're clearly hybrids and not simple mutants. I was expecting something akin to a giant-sized ugly Yi here, but they honestly don't look bad. You can see that one in the trailer for a split second with its wings folded and it has such a great shape to it:
Screenshot 2025-05-20 153302.png
It's so bird. I love the skinny, long legs holding up a bulky big-armed frame.
I just wish it had feathers to complete the look, or something to make it look more disgusting like quills on its back or prominent tumors and veins.

I'm really enjoying the human cast. There's a shot in the trailer where Martin is looking up with pure fear in his eyes at a dangling, rotten corpse hanging out of a helicopter and still gripping a pistol tightly.

Aquilops still looks pretty ugly but a lot better than the artwork, you can still painfully tell how it's just a reuse of the Microceratops design as a base instead of being truly based on an Aquilops, BUT it's so much more convincing looking, I like the Tegu cheeks and how it does have Aquilops teeth, it looks alive.

That scene with the door shut and the guy crying, omg, it's so HEARTBREAKING, I feel so sorry for him...
Is this just like a Gareth Edwards signature thing now to have a scene where two characters are seperated by a door and die with red lighting? Lol.

Where you say "heartbreaking", I say "hilarious". Honestly, I guffawed at that part of the trailer. Maybe there's something wrong with me.  :-[  :))

I didn't guffaw at that part, but I did have a humorous smile. I guess that makes two of us with something wrong...

It absolutely felt like a parody. All that was missing were the Wayans brothers.

It also doesn't help that the "Trapped behind a sealed door with something lethal while people outside watch helplessly" trope has been done to death. We saw it in Life. We saw it in Rogue One. We saw it in the 2014 Godzilla. We saw it in Species. And we saw it all the way back in 1982 with Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan.

People are really bending over backwards to find something negative to say about this.  ::D

I did like this trailer but yeah that one background actor went WAY too hammy with that delivery

I feel like human-sized doors that can open and close in a fast and effective manner would be a groundbreaking invention for the JP universe at this point though

Gwangi wrote down several things they liked and several things they didn't like in a reasonable, unbiased way. No one's saying this movie should be above criticism, but crashing out because of a rather insignificant door scene just seems desperate. Repeatedly wishing for a franchise to die, because you don't enjoy it, even more so.

I kind of agree with Gwangi's assessment about how the raptors were pushing the envelope already but in a neutral way, it doesn't really annoy me but I see the silliness.
A lot of my feelings regarding the plot hinge on just when this lab was in operation.
Just because the lab existed before the park did doesn't mean it was abandoned then.
It could have been in operation long past that point and into Jurassic World's development before they moved operations fully onto Nublar. The Scorpius rex was created in 2009.

This is a veiled personal attack and your previous post was a clear provocation by projecting unfounded motivations on other members. It's a violation of forum rule 1, so this is a warning. Thanks for understanding. C:-)

I can't stop rewatching the T. rex part over and over, this is like Rebirth's equivalent to the Therizinosaurus scene from Dominion except for me even better

I like the mutadon design. Not quite what I was hoping for (with the Pteranodon crest; edit: not present but wanted), but I'll take it. I agree that it doesn't feel quite Jurassic though, but that's been the state of this franchise post World (2015).

Also um where's the feathers? Now the wait for the Mattel figure to be revealed. As if there wasn't enough coming out that interests me as it is lol.

My biggest question is about the Aztec-y stone carvings in the Quetz cave. Did the park owners carve those? Doubtful. Were they carved by ancient Meso-Americans that lived on the island? Are they still around, a la King Kong's Skull Islanders? What in the world is going on?
