Been mostly looking at the new WWD from the sidelines and yeah...it's sad that it's "just" a successor in name.
Like don't get me wrong I think it will still be a great documentary (even if I would have loved a Triassic episode or one with marine reptiles) and I am especially excited for the Spinosaurus and Lourinha episodes but yeah Prehistoric Planet sure set a gigantic standard.
I feel if it wasn't called WWD it would have less harsh criticism but I can also get why they'd go for the name.
I'm not 100% feeling the CGI from the clip (even if it does look good) but I'll reserve judgment for when the entire series is out.

I just thought the same when I saw it. I may pass the bad CGI, but not those flagrant script errors.

I don't know. Birds eating carrion in the road let a vehicle get pretty darn close before taking off. There are times I have to look to the side or in the rear view mirror to make sure I didn't hit one.

An official clip from the new Walking With Dinosaurs series, which I don't think has been shared here yet?

An excellent question as that was another integral aspect of the original series. So far the answer appears to be no

Good to hear. This is my main complaint with Prehistoric Planet. Still haven't seen it beyond a few clips on YouTube.

Quote from: Jit on May 05, 2025, 12:05:40 PMIt's understandable that people want a chronological storytelling but I don't personally think it's that big of a deal. Let's not pretend that Prehistoric Planet is perfect in this sense either, and even the original WWD has its issues with storytelling as a whole where it can jump around and be very convoluted, even at times anachronistic with fauna appearances. I grew up watching WWD, and to say that the original CG is better than the current WWD is nothing short of nostalgia. What has held up in WWD is the puppetry. But otherwise it falls short, it reuses the Allosaurus Fragilis model alone for two separate dinosaur species. I'm not knocking it, as I know the budget was not astronomical. But the same thing applies here, this show does not have Apples budget.

Anyone going into this with a negative mindset is going to get what they put in, disappointment. Me personally, I'm glad to see dinosaur/prehistoric media that actually cares about the science and isn't Jurassic World.
Prehistoric Planet never said it was going to be Walking With Dinosaurs

You act like the storytelling in WWD is something so fantastical that it can't ever change. It has dinosaurs, and is a documentary style production. It's made by BBC. It's Walking With Dinosaurs.

I wonder if you were this vocal about the terrible WWD movie that came out.

Planet Dinosaur fits your definition of Walking with Dinosaurs, but it's not called Walking with Dinosaurs because it's substantially different from Walking with Dinosaurs. If this new series is also substantially different from Walking with Dinosaurs, it's fair to criticise calling it Walking with Dinosaurs.

And here's the Walking with Dinosaurs 3D movie thread, people were pretty vocal aboout that too!  :*D https://dinotoyblog.com/forum/index.php?topic=630

That thread is really funny with the benefit of hindsight. Poor, poor innocent people in the past, unaware of the sheer magnitude of disappointment they would soon face.
...Also I now kinda really want a modern "Chased by dinosaurs/Sea monsters" take. Or even better yet, modern Prehistoric Park.

And if Nigel Marven isn't available, I am.  https://dinotoyblog.com/video/mosasaur-unboxing-nigel-marven-style/ :*D

Guess you're in. Nigel Marven was eaten by a Giganotosaurus. In Primeval, remember? 😂

No offense meant, but I'm guessing you're new to the online dino/paleo community. Carlos Miguel Albuquerque (AKA Falconfly/Gwawinapterus/Ichthyoconodon/Johnfaa) is an infamously bad source. Below is pretty much everything you need to know about him:

-1/31/13 ( https://www.deviantart.com/jd-man/journal/SD-Good-semi-good-and-bad-dino-sources-1-351589315 ): There are 3 main reasons why both he & Dr. Pterosaur/Doug Dobney ("Pterosaurs to Modern Birds") are bad sources of dino (or any other) info: 1) They're non-experts who act like they're experts; 2) They're infamous for trolling/cyberbullying ( https://www.deviantart.com/kajm/journal/Multiply-banned-Hatethiest-johnfaa-remanifests-335722111 ) ( https://web.archive.org/web/20111017125923/https://sandwalk.blogspot.com/2011/09/new-moderation-policy-doug-dobney-is.html ) people who don't think like them; 3) They're terrible at sourcing their work, never doing so unless it proves their point (They'll ignore any source that contradicts them).

-6/3/19 ( https://www.deviantart.com/jd-man/journal/SD-Good-Semi-good-and-Bad-Dino-Sources-4-800236863 ): Apparently, I didn't say enough. My bad. For 1, his real name is Carlos Miguel Albuquerque & he has since moved his "Gwawinapterus | Prehistoric esoterism" content to "Ichthyoconodon – Prehistoric esoterism". For another, he's since been permabanned from both Wikipedia (as Falconfly: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia%3AAdministrators%27_noticeboard%2FIncidents&diff=prev&oldid=868840663&fbclid=IwAR0cqwNa_ZkFJEDHs6VF71y9sd2DRJRxraMGwLk7az_8XeGUceUnaWi6Eo4#User:Falconfly ) & the Tetrapod Zoology group (See the Naish quote).

Quoting Naish:
QuoteHi everyone. A load of drama has happened in my few days of absence from this group. I can't make any sense of what's happened nor do I understand what the source of argument is. But one person here has been accused of bullying, of sending vindictive personal messages, and of displaying an attitude that is very contrary to the group-minded, co-operative discussions I most want to see here. I have therefore decided to remove that person from the group and I would advise other parties involved not to engage further via DM or whatever.

Ok I was wondering what streaming service it will be on. I don't want to pay for a blueray without viewing it first to see if its something I'd watch again. I bought Prehistoric Planet 1-2 on Blueray because I've seen in multiple times. Thanks!

I watched the first episode, leaving the others for now,
I have to say that I don't love the format of switching from people talking about fossils to cgi animals over and over,
but I understand WHY they did it. It makes a lot of sense to me to put the evidence up front, I respect it, but ehh I don't enjoy how they did it. And it has this kind of fake acting feel to it, feeling like a movie rather than just casual info, if you know what I mean.

I don't know, for me WWD was so great partly because of the immersion in the animal stories.

But I have to say, I'm still gonna watch it all, I get enjoyment from seeing the dinosaurs and fossils.
The sound design is pretty good on Edmontosaurus, it's satisfying.
