Quote from: Halichoeres on April 29, 2025, 11:11:18 PMOh you're right! I (mis)remembered the Larami as being much larger than the Invicta. I don't have any other ideas for the maker of this one.

They´re exactly as big as the Invictas,  but much, much rougher and less detailed.

Ok there was this model of this Miomastodon or Zygolophodon that inside a glass case with it's skull inside of it was next to a paleontological lab and a nature lab that was in the second floor of a museum that i went in Oregon and i just want to know the artist and the sculptor who made this guy?

I'd like to find a review on it but i don't know who makes it.  For some reason the amazon.com link won't link to the actual product so please search on amazon.com for this title:

Another figure i'm curious about.  Looks like the Safari Deinonychus and it's the same size, but a totally different pose.  Any ideas?

For some reason i can't post links anymore on this forum but it's on Ebay.com item: 374888333714

Most likely an unbranded bootleg. The sculpt is almost entirely based on the Safari Deinonychus, with the exception of the open mouth. The pose is nearly identical to the Safari Deinonychus, other than the raised tail. But the position of the hands, legs, and angle of the neck are all the same as the Safari.

The other figure in the same auction (billed as Saurornithoides) seems to be based on the sculpt of the Papo Feathered Velociraptor, but with the left leg sculpt modified so that both feet are on the ground instead of one foot raised.

There are countless similar items on eBay and even Amazon that ship directly from China and are not affiliated with any brand (or in the case of Amazon, a brand name or several different brand names are made up on the fly).

hm......i was thinking that maybe it was a Safari prototype that they didn't proceed with and made the one they did release instead, since it was more stable.  If you're going t bootleg why go to all the expense of resculpting part of it?  Just copy the thing...lol.

The Safari Deinonychus was always sculpted with a closed mouth.

As for why they decided to alter the sculpt, they could have believed there was a market for an opened mouth version. Weird altered / chimeric bootlegs of existings sculpts are not unheard of (remember the bootleg Papo Spinosaurus that featured the original JP Papo body with the Papo Baryonyx head?)

This figure, or some variation of it, has been around for at least two years. No idea who made it, but it was actually featured in an issue of Prehistoric Times in the Dinosaur Collector News section. Randy Knol at the time mentioned it was from a factory that was known for making knock offs of higher end figures. But the factory in question was never mentioned.

me again.  An 11.4 inch Mosasaur figure (with pterosaur) on amazon.com with title:

SIENON Jurassic Mosasaurus Dinosaur Toy Figure 11.4'', Mosasaurus Hunting for Pterosaur Model Dino Figurines, Large Plastic Ocean Dinosaur Playset for Bath Pool Toy Cake Topper (Pterosaur Included)

I like the head to body length ratio of 7:1 (instead of the outdated 10:1 of many reconstructions) and the dorsal fin is interesting.  Would make a nice little 17-18 foot mosasaur in 1/18.  Skin texture is a bit rough and not sure about the fins though.

Halichoeres

I don't recognize it, for a second I thought it was a knockoff of the original Recur Mosasaurus, but if so it's been altered quite a lot. Based on the store's other offerings, I do think it likely that it has its origins in a knockoff.

It's a knockoff of the 2023 Papo Mosasaurus.

It's a knockoff of the papo mosasaurus but oddly enough the pterosaur seems to be original.

Companies like "SIENON" and other "brands" on Amazon that are named what appear to be a random collections of letters are just selling cheap bootleg toys and shipping direct from China. They aren't actual established brands and are very hard to combat for a number of reasons. Even if a brand successfully gets Amazon to remove the product they often have multiple different random "brands" and will just relist under a different company name. There are dozens of examples of this on Amazon.

Hilarious that I didn't recognize it, considering that I reviewed the Papo Mosasaurus for the Dino Toy Blog.
