A visit to one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen

Today I went to Naturalis, a natural history museum in Leiden, The Netherlands. Most of the museum is closed because of renovations, but there's one special exhibit that's still open. And that exhibit is the very reason I went there!

Please allow me to introduce you to Trix, the only Tyrannosaurus skeleton in Europe! Isn't she an absolute beauty? :))

The last picture is me with Trix. More pictures soon! :)

Killekor

Bigger than a camarasaurus,
and with a bite more stronger that the T-Rex bite,
Ticamasaurus is certainly the king of the Jurassic period.

With Balaur feet, dromaeosaurus bite, microraptor wings, and a terrible poison, the Deinoraptor Dromaeonychus is a lethal enemy for the most ferocious hybrid too.

Very nice pictures it looks like an excellent mount and the pose is impressive, the skull is very low as if it is about to snap something up in its jaws!

Neosodon

Who needs the rest of the museum when you got a fossil like that! :))

"3,000 km to the south, the massive comet crashes into Earth. The light from the impact fades in silence. Then the shock waves arrive. Next comes the blast front. Finally a rain of molten rock starts to fall out of the darkening sky - this is the end of the age of the dinosaurs. The Comet struck the Gulf of Mexico with the force of 10 billion Hiroshima bombs. And with the catastrophic climate changes that followed 65% of all life died out. It took millions of years for the earth to recover but when it did the giant dinosaurs were gone - never to return." - WWD

Pachyrhinosaurus

Nice pictures! In case you were wondering, the head is held so low because it is the original fossil skull, whereas every other T. rex mount has a cast skull.

Yes, the pose is very well made! Unlike most fossil mounts, Trix has a very ''active'' pose, even a bit birdlike. It was really impressive to see, the pictures don't really do justice. :P She looks way bigger when you stand next to her.

Lovely pictures. I agree on what people are saying about the pose. It looks very natural and, to be honest, quite menacing. Huge reason why nobody wants to be an Edmontosaurus, right here. Even the cast skeletons (one of which I have seen in person in the National Museum of Scotland) have a presence to them, but I'd imagine that the real thing is pretty spectacular from the point of view that you know those bones were once walking around and biting stuff. I've no plans on going to the Netherlands, at least not in the immediate future, but if I ever do I'll definitely have to pay this beauty a visit.

Well, my pc decided to delete all the other pictures I made yesterday. :( So I hope the two pics I posted before give you an impression of this beautiful beast.
Besided Trix, there were also some other things, mainly aimed at children of course. There were some interactive games about Tyrannosaurus, a short documentary about the digsite in Montana were she was found and a table full of Schleich were kids could make their own prehistoric world. While searching for Tyrannosaurus, the team of Naturalis also discovered the remains of about 5 individual Triceratops. They are now busy preparing these remains, so hopefully in a few years there'll be a Triceratops skeleton mount along Trix!
