We've already got the Dinosaur Toy Blog and more recently, the Animal Toy Blog. Has anyone ever wondered about a Fantasy Beast Toy Blog for dragons, monsters, cryptids, and other such toys?

I have quite a few fantasy figurss. Some of Safari's cryptids too. If you'd accept How To Train Your Dragon dragons, I'd have some good review material.

While I don't have any fantasy critters aside from my remaining Kaiju figures and an UHA Nessie ( which I display as a generic Plesiosaur anyways ), I think this sounds like a good idea, given how many such figures are out there.

Although, what exactly would Ghidorah be classified as?
Genus: Dragon or Genus: Ghidorah? Or would we use the Monsterverse classification as Titanus Ghidorah?
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Are there any existing blogs or forums out there for that topic?

I have no idea. The thought just came to me last night as I was looking at both the ATB and the DTB on my phone. I should hasten to note that I'm not proposing to start such a blog myself, as I have no experience whatsoever building a website, and no time really to learn how. I just thought it was an interesting idea.

Oh, and Ghidorah would be classified the same as Godzilla: Kaiju.

I was previously considering whether there might have been any examples (or contexts) where reviews like these might have bee appropriate on the DTB or ATB. Namely fictional creatures expressly based on dinosaurs, IE some Monster Hunter designs, assuming the differences to their inspirations were a large portion of the review.

I made "How to Train Your Dragon Toy Blog" for a WordPress class I took last year. It had exactly one post, and was never touched again.

This is an interesting question. I wonder where to draw the borders. A Fambaa or a Eopie from Star Wars are Fantasy Beasts, too, so should they be included?

Cretaceous Crab

I'm pretty sure there is a Godzilla (and other Toho kaiju) figure review site somewhere, but I forgot where I cam across it. My memory could be playing tricks on me, though.

I would think some specific franchises, like Star Wars, are too large and too vast to be included in a generic "fantasy & mythological" toy review venue. One could almost have a entire section for just dragons, as well.

The idea has some merit though. Definitely fun to think about.

In my opinion I think there should be a mythical creature forum/blog. My friend has a good collection of them and he'd probably allow me to review them for him.

I think such a blog would be interesting. Safari Ltd, Papo, Schleich, and some other companies (I think Bullyland too, as I'm at least aware that they made a Basilisk) have some fantasy and/or mythological based figures out there, aside from dragons, and I've gotten quite the group from Safari Ltd's selection a bit back that would probably be fun to review. While fantasy and mythological creatures are not real (except on a few occasions possibly, like in the case of the giant squid perhaps being what gave rise to stories of the kraken), there's often a lot of history behind how they came to be thought about, and dragons or dragon like creatures in particular, in some shape or form, have been prevalent in stories from culture's around the world.

Edit: Creatureplica also has some great cryptid figures that would also perhaps fit in fine on such a blog.

Monsters In My Pocket were my absolute favorite toys growing up. I think it's a little difficult to draw perimeters on what is and is not a mythical beast, but I still say it's a fine idea.

Kotori_Sonoda

I think it would be a very interesting read!
While I don't collect contemporary animal figures I do find myself visiting animal toy blog from time to time and fantasy creatures are like 10 times more interesting lol

if Godzilla is going to go on such a theoretical blog, what about the existing reviews on the made-up dinosaurs that are on this site? (Indominus, indoraptor, the JP Chaos effect guys....)

What about a Cryptid toy blog that tries to go into the possibility of what the animal would be like and how it would fit into life on earth kind of like how Trey The Explainer does. I think that would be fun.

I think this would be cool for mythical creature enthusiasts. Safari Ltd. makes a ton of fantasy type creatures. Kaiyodo and other Japanese companies have made cryptids and stuff. Oh man I used to have a full collection of Mysteries of the World or something small figures. I'll have to dig them up.
