Would this Kaiyodo Dakotaraptor work as a stand-in ~ 1:35 Deinonychus? At least, if I see this figure and I don't find out it's sold as a Dakotaraptor, that's what I'd ID it as. But I'd be curious to hear your opinion.

I don't usually like using figures of other genera as stand-ins for a genus I'm interested in, but good luck waiting for figures of dromaeosaurids in ~ 1:35 scale. I really wish Wild Past's was released, I wouldn't be asking this now:

Also a shame Kaiyodo missed the mark with their Deinonychus figures, particularly their 2019 one.

It's certainly the right size. I remember this was discussed before by me and avatar_Sim @Sim:

Quote from: Sim on May 31, 2024, 11:45:46 PMAs for the Kaiyodo Dakotaraptor, in addition to working as Dakotaraptor, I also think it could work as Dromaeosaurus, Atrociraptor, Achillobator...  There are two types of Deinonychus skulls shown in the second edition of the Princeton field guide to dinosaurs, the larger one is what we see in e.g. the Wild Safari Deinonychus and Creative Beast Deinonychus.  The other skull is a little smaller and less elongated and I think the Kaiyodo Dakotaraptor can work as this form of Deinonychus.  I don't know if the smaller Deinonychus skull is of a different species to the larger one, Paul considers them both Deinonychus antirrhopus.  It might just be different growth stages then..
One day we will know the truth about Spinosaurus... but not today.
