PNSO 2016 releases

As a nod to those older releases brought back from the dead, I just ordered the PNSO Huanghetitan from The Model Toy Shop on Aliexpress a few minutes ago. Amazed to see it, as I tried for years to acquire one. The store listed 15 as sold with a few more to go, so I snapped one up for 95 dollars Cdn, approximately 66 USD at the time, which is really only 50% more than the price back in 2016 (much less than that accounting for inflation). So, I am doubly pleased. We won't talk about shippling, which is cruel, only missing being categorized as inhuman as the figure is hollow vinyl.

Reading L @Leyster 's 2022 review on Paleonerd, it becomes abundantly clear that given the paucity of remains of the two putative species of this dubious genus, this is really a generic Titanosaur, probably more basal than derived, so can function as one of several Titanosaur choices in my collection, including Argentinosaurus. Not sure which one that I'll select, but I'll keep the options open. Seems that one can do so without any substantive compromise in either form or scale. I hav not the slightest notion from where these figure re-materialized, but it'll be fun to own one, especially in light of the ugly reality that buying the current HLG Argentinosaurus would have cost me as much as the purchase price of my first automobile, back in the day!

S @SidB The Huanghetitan is an awesome figure. You're gonna love it.

I'm still very fond of my Huanghetitan. It acts as a symbol of the wonderful models that followed it and reminds me of the early days of my model collecting life. I can recall so clearly the wonder I felt when it arrived. I'm glad you found one.

I had a similar find recently with the Shantungsaurus coming back from the dead on Aliexpress. My copy wasn't the most impressive but I'm very glad to finally have it!

Really undecided if I should get the Huanghetitan if it would still be available.

I very much understand that this was a very special figure at times when we did not get 4 or 5 sauropods per year from Haolonggood and 1 from PNSO.

But if one looks at some modern skeletal reconstructions of Huanghetitan the figure appears to be not very accurate.

All the more reason to take it as a generic Titanosaur, as L @Leyster recommends, I suppose. Then again, the sparse remains seem to encourage this approach.

Certainly not something one must buy if accuracy is one's guiding principle.  It is more an item of "historical" interest and significance I think (if "historical" can be applied to something only a few years old).  If you want something like the recent HLG Argentinosaurus and Brachiosaurus, you will be disappointed.

"Historical" is actually not an outlandish descriptive, avatar_ceratopsian @ceratopsian , because of the ever accelerating rate of improvements to the figures, reflecting both techniques and advancements in knowledge, which tends to push figures made a mere five or slightly more years ago into the past, almost a forgotten past in some instances.

It also wouldn't surprise me if PNSO revisits the genus at some point.

I wonder from where these 2016 figures that  the Model Toy Shop is selling are coming? I suppose there might have been a batch discovered in a warehouse somewhere in China, but is it possible that they are being re-issued by PNSO? It's quite odd, as PNSO is out of the vinyl dinosaur production business, as far as I know. But then, I really don't know for sure. A recent Aliexpress search turned up the Lufengosaurus and Shantungosaurus as well.

My guess would be a reissue, as long as somebody had the molds somewhere. But who knows!

Well, I just came across the Mandschurosaurus as well, not that that solves the puzzle, of course.
