So we are back to hybrids, except this time we going full Chaos Effect instead of something that looks "realistic" like the Indos...

WTF?!

And to think that for a moment, the idea of "maybe I should give it a chance and the mutant somehow works" crossed my head...

Spoiler
They never said they were hybrids though, I think when he says Velociraptor crossed with a Pteranodon, it's from a design point of view, not literal.

MLM, no offense but I think you need to ignore this movie otherwise you're gonna pop, lol-

Will need to wait and see how it turns out.

That said my expectations are still low after the mess that was Dominion (and my expectations weren't even high to begin with after FK but it still disappointed me).

To be honest, my words sound more harsh than my true feelings. This is not making me loose it, I asure you.

In reality, I'm just really, really disappointed and crying inside. I'm not going to burst into an outrage, I'm just crying (figuratively) very loud.

Dilopho

Dominion has its good moments, but as a whole it can be described in a famous quote...
Shit.png

I was hoping Rebirth paced more like the Lost World, where every encounter has an impact.
TLW does have a quite clustered first finale with the T. rex camp scene, chase and raptor fight all happening in rapid succession, but overall I find that it works.

Fallen Kingdom doesn't have bad pacing either, even though they spend barely any meaningful time on the island itself. After that, it seems like everything has the appropriate level of screentime.

Dominion is like a rollercoaster, it's just going through scenes super fast but none of it "hurts" you so to speak. The characters barely even get wounds. No impact to the story or characters whatsoever.
I don't want this movie to become a page flip show like that, I do have some raised expectations from my excitement so It's hard to quell that.

I know how you feel, there's other things I like where when I see how they're being handled, I feel like that Interstellar scene where the guy is banging on the window to the past and crying for it to change.

Cough cough.. On a JP related note, I wish I could go back to the writer's room of Chaos Theory and get them to change some decisions they made...

Regarding info from the latest interview:
Spoiler
Would be cool if they were actually oversized Scansoriopterygids, and the cast/inerviewer just didn't have the vocabulary to describe it. But of course, that would be the longest of shots ever.

Trenchcoated Rebbachisaur

That would be pretty cool! But considering the designs in this movie, I'm not sure much would change besides educators being able to use it as a jumping-off-point to teach about their real life counterparts

Doubtful but that would be pretty cool to see. I mean if Ark can put Yi in as a result of a community poll, why can't Jurassic do the same? Strangely even Microraptor is mia from any of these recent films.

New teaser:

Also, I'm sharing this Velocirapteryx (which I kinda wish we got instead of Mutadon: https://www.deviantart.com/israel-c/art/Velocirapteryx-JP-Chaos-Effect-Final-895014935 ) b/c it was recently used as a Jurassic Outpost thumbnail before being changed ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zEFuJcBUZEE ):

Blade-of-the-Moon

That would have been a much better choice. I really think they should have just went full bore and made this a Chaos Effect movie. That would have been cool. The Ultimasaurus would have been fantastic. The 90s are in right now, play to that.

I've been thinking that so far this feels like the Jurassic Park 4 I always wanted, apart from obviously that it's going to contain Dominion elements because it's not a direct JP3 sequel.

I remember reading the JP4 script and hating it. Militarised dinosaurs hunting terrorists? Made up dinosaur species? Human-dinosaur hybrids? I hated all those ideas.

It's funny that now they've actually tackled the weaponised dinosaur thing really, really well with Chaos Theory and to an extent the JW trilogy, and the method to make it work? Show it as something SCARY, not COOL. Put your characters on the RECIEVING end of such a thing. Brilliant.

We're getting
Spoiler
what's basically a nod to the Excavaraptors, in a spriritual sense
[close]

I'm really hoping they don't do the human-dinosaur mutants in the future, but I have a bad feeling about it. I just don't see what's left to do other than that after Rebirth tackles dinosaur mutants.

Gosh though, the vibes are SO good. It's so Jurassic PARK this time, at least to me.

Faelrin

Spoiler
Now that I think about it a JP raptor with Pteranodon wings would make for a fun wyvern design based on the way they were describing it. Though based on the negative reactions I'd say that's probably not something folks are wanting to see in a film like this. I mean that's also taking it literally as a cross between the two anyways based on how it was described, though we've yet to see it at all.

I'm curious if it will also get a figure. I know the new Dilophosaurus design and Aquilops also have yet to show up in Mattel's mainline scale. At least the latter has the Takara Tomy figure which should scale well with the mainline stuff more or less.

Paleomimi

I'm not optimistic about this movie at all.
The main reason isn't even the mutants but rather the synopsis. Jurassic World made a bold choice with making dinosaurs spread all over the world. Sure it was brought very clumsily but they made it happen and it opened the doors to an infinite potential of new stories. Rebirth canceling that in it's very synopsis does not sit well with me.
It shows a lack of direction and commitment.

It already didn't make sense how dinosaurs spread so quickly but now it makes even less sense that they thrived and multiplied like rabbits for a few years only for their population to drop in the next few years because supposedly our current ecosystem is hostile to them (never mind how come they were thriving so much in the first place if that was really the case). The truth is they chickened out and undid what the previous movies were building up to. It also does not sit well with me as a dinosaur lover how the very premise of Rebirth kills off hundreds/thousands of dinosaurs along with the unexploited potential having them coesxist in the modern world could have brought in terms of brand new and original stories.

Dilopho

Yeah, I don't like that much either, they don't even have much of a reason for it since the premise of them going to the island in Rebirth is that it's the only place that those three species can be found together.
Titanosaurus can't be found anywhere else on Earth, so yeah.

Blade-of-the-Moon

Maybe the "winged raptors" fall in line with the genetic unknown again? Scientists at the time recreated these raptors and they had weird scaly wings like a plucked chicken. They figured it was an error but  made several of them before finding the gene that gave them fingers?  I'm highly speculating but that could work.

I feel you Paleomimi, I hate retcons. Leaving dinosaurs everywhere was fine and didn't change why the really needed to go to this island honestly. I'm still betting there is some big twist here somewhere. You take DNA from corrupt dna animals and use it to "fix" people? That just sounds extremely iffy no matter how you spin it. Something is either going to go wrong or the company in charge has ulterior motives.

Martin Krebs....Krebs can be translated as Cancer....Yeah, that sounds like a bad guy name, doesn't it?
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

While he probably IS a bad guy, I think his name has more to do w/him being a Pharmaceutical representative.

If I find the line "Are you feeling it now, Mister Krebs" in the script I'm treating myself to a steak dinner

So they'll be feathered apparently (though to what degree, who knows):

Another confirmation for Distortus rex as well.

Some days I feel like I must be one of the few people here who doesn't hate fun. The movies not even out, it looks far more consistent with the original trilogy in terms of tone and aesthetics than the JW trilogy did, and everyone is just talking about how they aren't even going to give it a shot or even hope that it fails.

I'm excited for it, and for more weird mutants! I say bring it on! The weirder the better! Indominus was such a boring letdown of a hybrid design. As for why they don't use the Chaos Effect designs, I assume for the same reason we likely haven't seen any Mattel figures of them; Hasbro might have full or partial ownership of them.
