Stegoraptor Rex

We have all seen the Jurassic park version and we all know spino won that battle but what if it was more realistic?

While I can certainly see the appeal of a really cool dinosaur fight Harryhausen style,I would have much more interest in seeing more complete remains of Spinosaurus turn up.Imagine if mummified remains of either Spinosaurus or Tyrannosaurus turned up similar to "Leonardo". :)

But to give an answer to the question, the only big meat-eater that I can imagine being able to take down a fully grown Tyrannosaurus rex as it was choreographed in that movie would be another T.rex...(the arms grabbing a hold would be too small to notice, but I can picture one Tyrannosaurus getting a hold of the back another's neck in it's jaws and moving it's weight forward for the neck breaking effect,as the Spinosaurus did.See how interchangeable everything is in the movies!) :)
Don't you hate it when you legitimately compliment someone's mustache and she gets angry with you?

Zhuchengotyrant

The trex because it is stronger, and has a stronger bite force. It would have broken Spinosaurus neck in the movie.

Well spino have a bigger body means more muscle mass, have an extra weapon (claw). So in paper i think spino is the winner   :D

Yawns...so lets see, we are determing who would have won a fight between two animals that would never have met geographically nor time wise..and whom each had different environmental niches..one being terrestrial and the other at least semi aquatic.........why not just open the poll up to some real science and add terminator, predator and Jason?

simple answer, its not a fair fight so neither could realistically be "stronger"

putting spinosaurus on land to fight tyrannosaurus would be like dropping an orca in the middle of a field and pronouncing it would loose a fight to a lion (and vice versa for tyrannosaurus)
no matter what you try and do its not going to be a fair fight so its not possible to say

Paleogene Pals

Yes, but could either one beat a Calvinosaurus?  ;)

Pachyrhinosaurus

Spinosaurus did live in proximity to carcharodontosaurus, though not a tyrannosaur, would appear to have a similar outcome.

Tyrannosaurus for sure. It's a stupid question though,Spinosaurus was roughly an aquatic creature and Tyrannosaurus lived in land.

You read my mind.

Last time we did this, I remember snickering over someone else's reply that Spinosaurus would have killed the T-rex, cause once the rex killed the Spinosaurus and was eating it, it choked to death on a bone...

SPINOSAURUS!!! The knuckle walking giant crocodile- with a sail!

VS

TYRANNOSAURUS!!! The slow-moving-but intimidating-scavenger!

ITS AN OBVIOUS TIE! Spinosaurus isn't willing to leave the water, while Rexy isn't equipped for combat! Hooray
like a bantha!

C'mon now, if T rex was a scavenger then what was the apex predator in Hell Creek etc.? Eagle sized Maniraptorans? Omnivorous Ceratopsians? Every Dinosaurian ecosystem had at least one large superpredator. Even teenage Rexes weren't running the show. It was big fully mature specimens hunting and killing the megafauna. Sure they scavenged, but so does every other big carnivore.
In the end it was not guns or bombs that defeated the aliens, but that humblest of all God's creatures... the Tyrannosaurus rex.

I'm pretty sure Alexeceratops meant that in jest.

I think we all have the sense to know by now the scavenger/predator debate is pretty pointless. As you observed every modern carnivore scavenges when it can and hunts when it needs to.

If it was more realistic, there would be no fight even if the two were to meet up. Spinosaurus, as a mostly aquatic crocodile-like animal, would be very ill-equipped to theoretically "fight" on land, while on the other hand a T. rex is a purely terrestrial carnivore who would be very ill-equipped to "fight" in an aquatic habitat. It's like taking a Liopleurodon and asking how it would fare against a Dilophosaurus; in other words, it makes absolutely no sense.

Balaur

I think this is a little odd. Spinosaurus jaws are relatively weak, only strong enough to go after fish. Claws would be proved ineffective if it can't walk on land. So, on land, the winner is T. rex. In the water.... Still T. rex.

stargatedalek

how would tyrannosaurus possibly win in deep water? I highly doubt it would be capable of attacking while swimming (and thats being generous with estimates of its swimming capabilities!), spinosaurus would easily win given the water was of sufficient depth that tyrannosaurus would need to swim

Yeah, I just wanted to bring up that point. I haven't heard it mentioned before. As for the size of the jaws debate, I think it becomes pretty clear when you see a photo of the Spinosaurus snout and realize you could easily wrap your arms around it... try that with a Tyrannosaurus.
