Here's another rebooted thread  :) This one's dedicated to pliosaurs  >:D

My pliosaur collection (Jan 2011). After much deliberation I decided to include the polycotylids, which are traditionally regarded as pliosaurs, but are probably really derived plesiosauroids. So, lets call it my 'pliosauromorph' collection

I have a few more additions, and I'm still missing one or two...

Tylosaurus

hah look at that, they are somewhat relatives to the Mosasaurs 8)

Nice thread and that's a sweet batch of Pliosaurs you got there Doc  ^-^ *orthocone*
Although Pliosaurs & Mosasaurs if I may, we are alike in many ways

Umm--no.  :o They are not really relatives at all.

Someway they are both are prehistoric marine reptiles they do have some similarities :) it's probably that Mosasaurs wore more like Aquatic Iguana's with Unhingable jaws which Snakes have.
Pliosaurs were more like short necked Plesiosaurs, they looked more like Crocs I guess.

Unless you can explain it better, I never was a star at explaining :P And I can't blame myself either, since I have not been into this since the late 80's to early 90's heh.
I thought about both have large heads, short necks same array of flippers and a tail which was used as a rudder, but indeed they are somehow too different to be similar, ah well I'll take a deeper look in to this.
There is a lot for me to catch up it seems, it's all welcome your knowledge ya know, bring it on I'm like 8)

Well, in short, mosasaurs are descended from monitor lizards--they are essentially very large lizards that went back to the water (think anthracotheres to whales).

Pliosaurs are part of a group of reptiles that went back to the water in the Triassic (?) and would at best be distantly related to lizards within the same 'lepidosaur' reptile lineage (according to some models at least--in others, at best they are all diapsids).  There are distinct differences physically as well, but Adam is very likely better able than I to discuss them (my knowledge of pliosaurs ending about there).

I have it, it is tiny indeed! But it isn't photographed here - pliosaurs only.
I should create a lovely lovely plesiosauroids thread as well ;)

Tylosaurus

Don't forget a lovely Mosasaurinae thread please :P

Thanks Lio, that's a very handy list. I'm still in chase of some of the figures.

But you missed some, at least. There is a Yowies Leptocleidus. And this Natural History Museum - University of Oslo exclusive Predator X.

More on the archive: http://dinotoyforum.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=classifieds&action=display&thread=4234

I'm sure there are others too...

That aerial view is not flattering for the Carnegie Cigarosaurus AT ALL. ;D Of course, some of the others look great! It's a very nice collection.
