Great idea.

Awesome Kaiju!

Anyway, I got some new stuff today.

First up is Safari's brand-new 2014 Dragon King.  It is surprisingly small (way smaller than the three-headed fire dragon), and something about the paint seems wrong.  But he has good colors and texturing (his back scales are beautiful, and I love the eyes).  Mine has one warped foot.

Next up, on the NECA side, I got the Prometheus vs. Trilobite 2-pack on discount.  And in one sense, it is awesome... but in the other... uh... it kind of looks inappropriate.  No wonder toys R Us had trouble selling it.  So here it is, implanting its proto-Alien inside the poor Engineer, Facehugger-style.  Either way, I need to take about twenty photos of this set for a review at http://www.nerditis.com

And finally, I got Sgt. Craig Windrix from the Aliens line.  This one has a backstory to it...

Kyle Windrix is a famous toy sculptor.  He got his start with McFarlane, but nowadays works for NECA.  Craig was his brother, and by all accounts was a really incredible person.  He was diagnosed with terminal stomach cancer last year, and as a result this figure was made in his likeness as a tribute to him - Aliens was his favorite movie.  Although at times it looked like the cancer might go into remission, Craig Windrix lost his battle last week... about a week or two after the figure debuted.  NECA's offices shut down for twenty-four hours in mourning - this relative of a staff member was such a great guy that the whole company had to take a day off.  Even though I don't know the Windrixes, something about this resonates with me.  Maybe it's because of th elosses my family has seen in recent years.  Anyway, I will be giving him the 20-photo-and-a-review treatment, too.

you got great taste in toys/figures. i might get that Prometheus figure if i see it in any nearby TRUs. btw, that safari Dragon would have looked much better if the torso was a bit bulkier, and be at par with the awesome McFarlanes Dragons series. cool stuff.

I agree. And I also love the stories you share behind the figures. It really makes reading this thread interesting!

I just got Modulok.

In the original He-Man line, Modulok was this crazy figure with a ton of interchangeable parts. It was AWESOME.  The new Modulok is just the same, which is impressive - the new He-Man toy line is mostly known for re-using parts, but every piece of this Modulok is brand new, and they even made the joints extra sturdy by constructing the sockets from soft rubber (less stress on the pegs when you pop them out).  I will review him on Wednesday, and took... thirty photos.  Here are a few samples.

I took thirty pictures of Modulok for Wednesday's review.  So here's a sample of just a few of them!

And of course, how he looked in the cartoon:

I picked up a few more Pathfinder miniatures (you know, D&D's silly cousin), all of which are characters from the Wrath of the Righteous adventure path.  Someday, I will run this campaign.  Someday...

First up is Staunton Vhane, dwarf anti-paladin and servant of the demon lord Deskari.  He's more militaristic and less overtly-psycho than most of the villains in this path, although he is still pretty disturbing.  You fight him in Sword of Valor, as you try to retake a city.

Then there's Arueshalae, a reformed/redeemed/attempting redemption succubus.  Dungeons & Dragons and Pathfinder have generally kept away from making demons redeemable, because it flies in the face of the whole concept.  So this is interesting.  I find it unfortunate that they chose a succubus, though - you know, she's humanoid and very pretty, so players will have an easier time empathizing with her and maybe hoping for sexytimes at some point in the future.  I would love to see the effect if they had one of the uglier, more monstrous demons attempting to be reformed and serving a god.

That said, Arueshalae is a really well-written character, even though she only appears in a gaming module.  And I appreciate that, surprisingly, she is not overly-sexualized - her armor even covers more of her body than pretty much any other fantasy female!

And on the other end of the spectrum, we have Nocticula.  Demon Lord (lady?), Queen of the Succubi, and very, very evil person.  She gets no sympathy, probably because of that freaky hairdo.

Also from He-Man, and actually shipping at the same time as Modulok - Glimmer from She-Ra: Princes of Power.

cool stuff. too bad we're the only two people posting new toys (and three people interacting) in this thread.

I would post if I could...but my purchases of action figures are quite infrequent. And I'm not sure if anyone would be interested in the stuff I buy either.

Gwangi

I collect other things but not toys generally, still a fun thread to watch even if only a few people have anything to share.

Patrx

I might be able to contribute some Power Rangers/Super Sentai type stuff at some point, if that's of interest. Though I don't actually have much.

Ridureyu

Yeah, guys, contribute more!  For exampe, I loved those kaiju from earlier in the thread.

sauroid

all kinds of toy and figures are welcome here. :)

I wonder how we would classify Predasaurs. Predasaur Fiction pretty much treats them as Dinosaurs.

I think as fast as fiction goes, humanoid forms seems to be easiest to reform. Probably because most writers are human.  Her actually wearing fnctional armor is probably because it is pretty much the antithesis of a Succubus outfit or something like that.

All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

AbaRed/Red Tyranno Ranger
This was a figure I picked up without a base at a convention. I decided to make a new base for it from clay - it's crude, but it gives the Ranger somewhere to stand. I also picked up a figure of VulEagle from Sun Vulcan that needs a new base, but I've not gotten around to making one.

Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger/Power Rangers Super Megaforce Ranger Keys
The Ranger Keys were used by the Gokaigers, a pirate-themed team of Rangers, to change into any previous Ranger from any team in the thirty-five year history of the Super Sentai franchise. They're small figures that fold back into keys that "unlock" the powers of the Ranger they represent. In Power Rangers Super Megaforce, they serve much the same purpose, accessing powers from the 20-year strong Power Rangers franchise. These Keys are from the original Super Sentai line. Interestingly, the Power Rangers keys feature a spring-loaded mechanism, better paint, and more details - but they're much smaller. There are many more keys - one for each Ranger - but I only have these five red ones.

Gosei Red: Tensou Sentai Goseiger/Red Megaforce Ranger: Power Rangers Megaforce

Hurricane Red: Ninpu Sentai Hurricaneger/Red Storm Ranger: Power Rangers Ninja Storm

Red Racer: Gekisou Sentai Carranger/Red Turbo Ranger: Power Rangers Turbo

Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers Helmet Collection, full-size Blue Ranger helmet, Power Morpher, and Blue Ranger/TriceraRanger figure

The Blue Ranger was always my favorite, so part of my collection is a Blue Ranger costume. I don't wear it much, but the helmet makes a nice display piece along with the scale model helmets and die-cast Power Morpher. The figure next to the helmet is part of a very strange set of toy figures that were incredibly accurate and detailed (even including zippers on the suit, cuffs, and boots), but lacked any paint whatsoever on the dorsal side. It looks nice enough facing out, however, and dodges the hyper-muscular look that most male Power Rangers figures have. Unfortunately, the Red and Green Rangers above don't fare so well, and look unpleasantly Hurculean.

Red Mighty Morphin' Power Ranger Poster
This image is actually a bit too dark and intense for my tastes, but It is undeniably cool and was a limited print, so I picked one up.

#19
There was a guy on Jauce who was selling off his entire Godzilla collection, which was mostly composed of kaiju and movie monster toys. I won the auction, and I have gotten the items I wanted from the lot. I'm not really a kaiju fan, so I have a massive sackful of kaiju gashapon that I don't know what to do with :-[

I'm thinking about starting a thread dedicated to this, but I'm not sure.  I want to sell them off, but I don't know how much most of it is worth. It could be junk for all I know. I am going to try and photograph every single one, so watch this space if you're interested :)
