Certain Theropods

I'm pretty sweet on certain theropods, and the lack of good models for many of them left me saddened. Unfortunately, I don't have a lot of disposable income and am pretty terrible at building stuff, which means a lot of kits are pretty much out. So I came to ask the opinion of people here, perhaps there are things I didn't know about?

So, in everyone's opinion, what is the best model/toy for each of these dinosaurs?

Allosaurus: The two most prominent models that spring to mind are the wild safari allosaurus and the papo allosaurus. Carnegie REALLY needs to redo their allosaurus figure. Anyone know if any other good allosaurs?

Torvosaurus: Or really anything that could even serve as a torvosaurus. I've seen absolutely no one pick this dinosaur up which makes me sad because I like it a lot.

Giganotosaurus: I have and love the Carnegie model, but aside from that, I don't think anyone else made a decent giga (I think Schleich and Bullyland both made awful ones.)

Carcharodontosaurus: The wild safari one is tiny and in a weird position. I was really excited for the new collecta one, but it seems to have the same problem as the Mapusaurus in the same line with absurdly tiny legs, making it a very squat, awkward beast.

Any other random allosaurs. Surprisingly, I don't see many good models in this group. Seems like everyone likes Tyrannosaurs (well, everyone has always liked tyrannosaurs) and abelisaurs these days.
What I love about Allosaurus is that it lived an extremely violent life that was rife with broken bones, cuts, scrapes, infections, sprains, and yet it just kept on truckin.

Let's see...I'd go with Wild Safari, Kinto, Papo, the new Jurassic Park figure, the older Jurassic Park figure..those are pretty good to start.

Best Torvo so far is Shane Foulkes model..not sure what would serve as one it being so unique looking.

You certainly have the best Giga toy so far..David Krentz makes a nice smaller model through Shapeways.. still hoping for a 1:40 of that one though.

The old WS Carcharo is based on a piece of art..I think by Sibbick ?   The newest Carcharodontosaurus by Collecta is certainly the best one out..taking into account all the newest data.

Collecta is also releasing a Saurophaganax  and a Stegosaurus corpse which would go well with any Allosaurus. :)

Wow! That Krentz giga is really awesome! And actually affordable to boot! I might see about picking him up.

I've been thinking about the papo Allo. The JP one pretty obviously copied the papo, but gave it a better color scheme and actually did a really good job. Both figures have problematic arms, but the papo one is worse in that regards. Poor thing looks like its wrists are broken :c

Also, on Krentz's page, he offers a really really really really ADORABLE little chibbie allosaurus that I might think about getting.

What I love about Allosaurus is that it lived an extremely violent life that was rife with broken bones, cuts, scrapes, infections, sprains, and yet it just kept on truckin.

If you can afford it I'd get both. The Papo is much more detailed, but the JP one is a bit larger and has more playability..great for a desk piece.

I'd recommend picking it up..I love mine :

AWWW IT'S SO CUTE  ;D  ;D  ;D

Sorry...

It reminds me of the little baby Allosaurus I have, the one that was made to go along with the yellow Safari allosaurus.

Honestly, besides paintjob, I much prefer the old safari sculpt over the new one, except for the frustrating tripod stance.

I know right ? lol  I have the older WS pieces including babies too.. :)

I like the size of the old one..but the new one is more accurate..at least as far most Allosaurus specimens are concerned.

I think that The new Jp allosaurus, The green Wild safari and Papo ar the best. But i would like a carnergie version.

Torvosaurus, its a awesome and big therpod so hope someone, Papo or Safari makes a good one.

Others i would like to see is Megalosaurus,Eustreptospondylus, Yuangchuanosaurus, proceratosaurus, Saurophaganax,Abelisaurus, for example
Taking dinosaurs of this islandis the worst idea in the long, sad story of bad ideas

Really? I have to disagree. The head on the old one was perfect (except for teeth and the sculpt itself lacking some finer detail) the head on the new one is so elongated and thin. Both of them frustratingly leave out the trademark allosaurus claw (Although to be fair, what Allosaur model have you seen that actually has the larger thumb claw? Heck, most places seem to leave out that thumb claw. Our museum where I live happens to have a really spectacular Allosaurus skeleton, and I can tell you those claws are really impressive.)

Granted, the Papo and JP heads are much differently shaped than the yellow allosaur heads too, but I don't know. It's more believable than the green head (although to be fair, neither Papo or JP is exactly shooting for scientific accuracy.)

What I love about Allosaurus is that it lived an extremely violent life that was rife with broken bones, cuts, scrapes, infections, sprains, and yet it just kept on truckin.

I think the issue with the Allosaurus skull partly depends on what skull you're looking at.

For example...

Carnegie Allosaurus

"Big Al"

Oklahoma Museum of Natural History.

There is certainly some variety there with some skulls being more long and low than others. The skull of "Big Al" looks more like the head on the new WS model while the Oklahoma skull there looks more like the older WS model.

There are lots of Allosaurus out there, these are mine:

Back row: Papo, Safari, Bullyland
Front row: Big Schleich, Walking With Dinosaurs, 1988 Carnegie, 1998 Safari

Two Kaiyodos and one by Kazunari Araki

Small Schleich one, it´s usually painted tan:

I really want the papo.

I'd be interested in finding out more about the ones in the second picture. Do you have links on where you got them? I'd be interested in obtaining all three of those if they were still available online.

I have the painted Schleich one. Honestly the head is a bit meh, and it'd be a lot better with the tail up, but it's a fairly decent allo, especially for when it was made.

I'm not sure what it is about the Carnegie one. I really want to like it, and I'm not sure why I don't.

I think the front two are Kaiyodo..not sure about the back one Kabaya ?

The Carnegie one is okay..but it's of course distinctly 90's.  It is due for an upgrade.

Well, if anyone can find these, let me know :)

lol that's actually my pic !  I repainted mine a bit. It was all black.

It's quite cool..he was going to do an entire allosaur pack if I recall.

Katieraptor

It's a sweet model, if a little out of my price range.

I still like both those Kaiyodo allos, but haven't been able to find anything on them. I've only seen a few pictures of the one on the left, and absolutely no info on the one on the right. If anyone knows where I could pick those up, I'd be really grateful.

Very welcome !

Katieraptor

Found a few really cool allosaurs on Ebay, might snap a few up.

Also the JP allosaur is apparently outrageous in price now. Would it be better to try and get one standalone (meaning pre-owned, no box or extras) or wait for a re-release when it'll be cheaper? (I have absolutely no knowledge of how JP or whoever produces the JP merch does their stuff. Is it viable to wait for a rerelease?)
