The Zords will probably move into position, transform and then the whole mesh-looking stuff will literally just grow between them,
Jurassic Park is frightning in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things'll harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm their dinner, not their friend
Oh no

Quite possible! I guess that'd be okay by me.
By the way, I just snagged Time Force and Dino Thunder for twelve bucks each at a local shop! It seems Shout Factory are selling individual seasons now :)

Blade-of-the-Moon

Just saw a pic or the Triceratops and Mastodon Zords..why on earth would they make them look like big bugs with so many legs?   So much worse than Dragon-Lock from the last TF movie.  :/

Black does not look like a Mammoth, Mastodon or any mammal at all. It looks like some sort of arachnid/beetle mix
Yellow does not look like a Smilodon. It looks more like a non-mammalian Therapsid of som sort.
Pink is probably the closest to what it is supposed to be.
Blue really looks more like a beetle than a Triceratops.

Yeah, the Triceratops and mastodon Zords are really unfortunate - I am particularly disappointed by the Triceratops, personally.

I've been trying to puzzle out how these could have happened for a while now. It seems to me that this movie has two main goals in addition to simply updating the original Mighty Morphin' series (a task, which, on its own, is currently being undertaken with some success by a comic book series from Boom Studios).  The movie's meant to appeal to as broad an audience as possible, and to explore what Power Rangers could be if it had experienced no content boundaries from the existing Sentai material.

Now, generally, a product that endeavors to appeal to a broad audience is a very bad product, especially with movies. I'll bring up why I think that happens in a later paragraph. But, the idea of rebuilding Power Rangers with a unique identity and its own internal logic and style is very cool. For example Rita's not just a witch that lives on the moon (Bandora), but an alien with otherworldly powers. Now we get to see what that looks like when designed from the ground up.

And by that logic, the Zords could be based on zany alien beasties that sorta-kinda look like ancient earth creatures. Except they've evidently decided not to do that, because there are earth animals on the coins and they used the names of those animals in the branding. Because of that, until we see more about what the Zords are meant to be or how they'll really look, there appears to be a nonsensical clash of ideas, and that is very unpleasant.

I'm afraid what we're seeing is an unfortunate intersection of those two goals - the filmmakers wanted to be creative, so they made Zords that not only look alien, but like aliens. Not a terrible idea. However, they also needed to tick the nostalgia box in order to catch that audience, so they kept in references to the original animal motifs. As a result, this is literally a movie with an eight-legged elephant in it, and that is not cool. I hope this does not mean the whole movie will have such an identity crisis.

Blade-of-the-Moon

I think your probably right there, makes a lot of sense too...the explanation, not their creative decisions.   I was expecting a heavy nostalgia play like with JW.  Same basic concepts and designs only plussed with current special effects.    It's also odd how much better the Tyrannosaurus Zord looks compared to the others..maybe they were told " this one is the most popular and has to look this way" heh

That might lead to our film explanation...each zord has a prehistoric animal its based but uses the human they are linked with's idea of it to choose its form...everyone knows what a T-Rex looks right ?  lol

Shadowknight1

It's hard to keep up the optimism for the movie when they do something like that.  The new design for the rex Zord, morpher, suits, and Red Ranger's Power Sword all looked fine, but the other Zords and the combined Megazord look way too Michael Bay...
I'm excited for REBOR's Acro!  Can't ya tell?

So, here's another look at the combining toy, outlining how the transformation works. I presume the film version will resemble the other toy more closely, and combine in a more impossible, CGI-type way.

Additionally, here's a closer look (for better or for worse) and the individual Zords:

Hah, that might explain Zack's Zord - his fear of spiders manifested into a mechanical arachnoid elephant!  ;D

Oh, man, that show was rad! I wonder if there are DVDs anywhere?
That reminds me, has anybody watched the new Voltron series on Netflix? It's genuinely quite good.

After the insectoid Triceratops and arachnoid mastodon Zords, bug-eyed Alpha doesn't even register as a problem.

Somebody did have a go at fixing him up in Photoshop though. Not bad:

Blade-of-the-Moon

not a bad design, the headlight eyes feel very retro though, not at in keeping with the other designs.

I'm afraid you are right and this film is feeling like a chaotic melee design wise.

Alas. Well, deviating from Power Rangers movie news for a moment, here's something relevant to the other side of this thread - a complete but quick rundown of all forty Super Sentai hero teams, as featured in the Zyuohger/Gokaiger crossover!

I'm glad somebody does! To be fair, I like some of it. Most of it, even. But the Blue and Black Zords, man, that's just not right by me  :o

So! Some exciting new images have surfaced regarding Toei's upcoming 41st Super Sentai show, Uchu Sentai Kyuranger, featuring a constellation/space theme:
