I've gotten a few requests to share some of my non-paleo books so to start that off here is my collection of shark books.

[Off Nick and Eddie's reactions to the dinosaurs] Oh yeah "Ooh, aah", that's how it always starts. But then there's running and screaming.

{about the T-Rex) When he sees us with his kid isn't he gonna be like "you"!?

I'll keep an eye out.  ;)

Thanks. :)

BTW, would you mind posting some of the "disturbing photographs" in "The Jaws of Death"?

I've read Jaws of Death. Good book, should've bought it when I had the chance. The photos in question are mostly of bite victims, some of which are pretty gruesome. Definitely not appropriate for sharing in this forum.

You have more shark books than I do, and I'm an ichthyologist!

Agreed, they are pretty gruesome. Not even just bite victims but stomach remains containing human parts as well.

Well I'm not an ichthyologist but I did go to college for aquaculture. I thought for awhile I would end up being an ichthyologist and study sharks in particular but things didn't work out that way. I'm also big into fish keeping with several articles published in "Tropical Fish Hobbyist". You're not alone in your love of fishes and there is a good chance that I have more books on fishes in general than you do as well!

All the more reason to post them. ;) :P I do love me some blood & guts.

If you even think that could be true, you're almost certainly right. I still rely quite a bit on the university library. Hope to see more of your collection!

Yeah, I pretty much have a university library of my own. Only on natural history, biology and related subjects though. I'll post more soon, probably finish off the fish stuff first.

Alright, here are the rest of my fish books. Excluded are the books I have on fishing because they don't seem relevant here. I did include the fish keeping books here though. This is where it gets a bit image heavy so bear with me.

These books don't have covers so I photographed them like this. "The Inland Fishes of New York State", "Fishes of the Gulf of Maine" and "Wondrous World of Fishes".

"The Fishes of Tennessee" is easily one of the rarest books I own. I bought it for $20 new off a university web site. Now it sells for $340 on Amazon, and that's the lowest price!

These little care books didn't seem worth pulling off the shelf.

Yup, looks like you have roughly twice as many fish books as I do! Definitely a broad area of overlap, though--you have good taste ;) About your Princeton shark field guide--I have one too, but the cover is different. Is yours a previous edition or a more recent one?

Thanks and yeah, the subject of fishes is pretty broad. Identification, evolution and biology, aquarium care, freshwater and marine, and even fishing...there is a lot to cover. My Princeton guide is the first edition. I had to have it when immediately when it hit the shelves.

Honestly, that only represents about 3/4ths of what I originally had. I did some serious book culling before my daughter was born. Had to make space. Probably should cull some more.

Newt

Fishes of Tennessee is rare? Dang, I've got three copies of it laying around, too.  :)) Not giving them up, though.

Nice book collection you've got! I see several familiar favorites there.

Gwangi

Time to move onto reptiles and amphibians, we'll cover snakes first. I'm sure Doug Watson will appreciate this collection.

This has a good snake key: http://www.amazon.com/Herpetofauna-Continental-United-States-Canada/dp/0700618333

The Wright and Wright manuals have lots of good information, but they're several decades old. So use with caution.

Gwangi

Yes, the "Handbook of Snakes" volumes do have keys but as Newt pointed out, the books are quite dated. Originally published in 1957 my editions are from 1994. The Ernst book is a better, more modern book that also has keys.

Your book collection is impressive. I really like the fish collection since I'm a fan of fish. ;D
