I originally posted the following at deviantART ( http://jd-man.deviantart.com/journal/SD-The-Jurassic-World-movie-and-challenge-541332172 ). Now, I'd like to know whether you guys took the "Jurassic World Challenge".

QuoteHi everybody,

I saw "Jurassic World" (Vincent's "Jurassic World review: not your father's de-extinction theme park" sums up my opinion of the movie: http://chasmosaurs.blogspot.com/2015/06/marcs-jurassic-world-review-not-your.html ) & took the "Jurassic World Challenge" ( http://chasmosaurs.blogspot.com/2015/06/the-jurassic-world-challenge.html ). At 1st I was like, "There are many paleo researchers & independent paleoartists. How [am I] to decide which ones to give $ to?", but then Orr was like, "if you have trouble choosing, I'd choose a place that is close to you, or simply choose to buy a piece of artwork from a favorite artist", so I did: 1st, I bought Willoughby's "Tea Raptor Mug" for $22.94 (See "Merchandise" under "Store": http://emilywilloughby.com ), mostly b/c I thought it'd go nicely w/my "1992 Jurassic Park Dinosaur Coffee Mug Cup By Dakin" ( https://www.etsy.com/listing/279069616/1992-jurassic-park-dinosaur-coffee-mug?show_sold_out_detail=1 ); Then, I donated $22.94 to the Burke Museum's "Dinosaur Endowment" (which supports vertebrate paleontology: http://www.burkemuseum.org/research-and-collections/vertebrate-paleontology ), mostly b/c I wanna commit to eventually moving to Seattle. In short, I recommend that everyone sees the movie & takes the challenge (especially if you like dinos or science or have ever seen "Jurassic Park").

Cheers,
Herman Diaz

P.S. Just in case you were wondering, my ticket price was $12.75.

I also took the "Jurassic World" Challenge and I was even going to start a thread about it. Actually me and my wife both did it, buying a couple pieces of artwork to hang in our daughter's room. I'll post pictures of them soon. My ticket price for JW was only $8 so I greatly exceeded the cost of my ticket price what with matting and framing the artwork but it's all good.

How'd you see it for $8?

I live in a fairly rural area with a few cheap mom-and-pop theaters still around. The second time I saw it was during a matinee.

I haven't and I won't.

That's cool...I guess. Glad you felt the need to contribute to the thread?

Here we are.

The one on the left is the one I chose. Eosinopteryx by Emily Willoughby.

By wife chose this piece representing Balaur bondoc chicks by Devient Art member Psithyrus (Blaire). I'm personally not a fan of this cutesy style artwork but my wife just loved it and it is hanging up in a babies room so I suppose it is appropriate.

I Commissioned Brandem to sculpt some dinos for the good of the community. Does that count as taking the challenge?   He is an artist, and im technically purchasing each model he makes from my ideas.

You know what they say, "Happy wife, happy life." Too bad you guys didn't get matching pieces, though. 2 side-by-side pieces by the same artist &/or of the same species would've looked cool.

I would think so.

Well, at least they're both small feathered theropods but yes, I agree. There is also a poster of Doug Henderson's Tarbosaurus & Saurolophus hanging in there and other dino-stuff so there is definitely a dinosaur theme going on.

Mark Witton's pterosaur book counts right? ;)

Gwangi, those two art pieces are really nice! The Emily Willoughby piece is a very classic representation of her beautiful style. I've always liked the way she does feathers. They always look so soft. But I have to say I also like the "cutesy" Balaur bondoc chicks piece. Hehe! The details are amazing in it! And it is perfect for a baby's room. ;)

I wouldn't mind filling my house with Willoughby's work honestly, I knew I wanted one of her pieces but it was hard picking which one.

Yeah, the Balaur piece is very well made, and detailed. It's just not my style, a little too "cutesy" for my tastes. I love some of the smaller details like the nest and the rodent skull in there but those chicks looks straight out of Disney. But yes, perfect for a baby room.

I attempted the Jurassic challenge, but in the end I went with a school-related charity donation instead. Still, maybe some of the students will grow up to be interested in dinosaurs?

Still admirable!
