Blade-of-the-Moon

I cut out about 6-7" at the top of the neck and then slanted downward with it.  Here is a pic of it  I was fooling around with in Paint :

It was getting too dark to see so I had to outline the areas..then I just started messing around drawing horns and such..lol

It looks neat so far! considering it's the first ceratopsian you've constructed, I'm quite impressed :) However, I think the hands look a bit off, like they're pronated too strongly.

Thanks ! I really wanted to challenge myself a bit..I love ceratopsians..but almost never draw or create any. i can say I've learned a lot while doing this. I love making these big guys..it lets me get in there and see where this or that really goes. ;D

In which direction ?  I did make the toes of the feet themselves point outward more..I was going for a braced against the ground defensive posture..should be intimidating my juvenile tryrannosaur soon you know. ;)

I was looking for different skull shots of Gorgosaurus and I found this :

Is the skull really so narrow ? I know it's a juvenile I'm doing and all...and there isn't any flesh or muscle there..but still...wow.

Well, I was under the impression that the hands faced sharply out, so the fingers would point left and right instead of forward. Bit like this guy:

I might be ill-informed there, though, as I've seen very few reconstructions with such strong forelimb supination.
Looking forward to seeing the final showdown with the tyrannosaur!

Mine are slightly splayed outward in this pose. All of my references showed this hand position was plausible..but I've never heard an argument for ceratopsian hands. I know there was discussion about the arm position and legs as well though. More splayed is supposed to be acceptable now over straight under the body I believe.

Styrac head attached :

Juvenile Tyrannosaur / Gorgosaurus progress :

Pretty excited to see how this one turns out myself ! ;D

ZoPteryx

The Styrac is looking great! :D

As for the Gorgo head, I'd say it looks a bit smashed and also warped, so I'd widen it a little bit.

Totoro

Blade, these are really all wonderful!  If I had grown up near you, you would have had to shoo me away everyday.  I'd just come down to your place and gawk at all of the amazing dinosaurs!

Thanks guys ! I've said it before I would welcome anyone that wanted to stop by and check these guys out and talk dinosaurs ! ;D

Yeah the head did seem too narrow to me as well..I looked at my " Judith " piece by Krentz and decide a little width was needed :

Styrac horns added ! ;D

Some more minor detail work and this fellow will be done !

Meso-Cenozoic

Oh man, you got the spikes on! Now that is really looking cool!! Are you going to give the shield a bit of ornamental painting? I think he should have a little display color to show off with, right? Hehe!

I know right ?  I was really excited to get the spikes on there and see how it would look. ;D

It's definitely getting some brighter colors..maybe an orange or yellow ? I kind of feel like I'm using those too much though..crests on the Pteros, juvenile Spino..heh.

Here is the Gorgo head almost done in foam :

Blade-of-the-Moon

Last pics of the Styrac before painting . I bulked up the boney ridges over the eyes and finished covering the bases of the horns :

Gorgo / Juvi Tyranno update :

Blade-of-the-Moon

This unspeakable nightmare of a beast has been occupying me for the past 2 days , he has been a terrible beast to work on..the sheer size and placement of the legs has really been doing me in. I've held off painting the Styrac to get this guy a little further along.   He's caused me more pain, grief and bloodshed so far than other...I think I might just call him " Terror " .. ;)

stoneage

:)  The pose looks pretty good, it shows movement and isn't static.!

Thanks ! I've been trying to add a little bit of motion to my dinos if possible...I tell you it would have been a lot easier had it been in a neutral pose.  I originally had a pole in the chest making a tripod like  in my other 2 legged pieces..but this guy just didn't want to cooperate at all ! He went way , I fixed it, then the other way and I fixed that.  Finally I just pulled the pole and added two at the hips and really beefed up the leg supports. ;) The base will still need a LOT of weight so the wind doesn't take him out.  :-\

I really wanted this one running around the Styracosaurus..maybe he's making mock charges or just aggravating it...but the viewer knows he's playing with fire... ;D

A fitting name indeed. The juvenile Gorgo/Tyrannosaurus is coming along nicely and I love the change you've done, with two poles in the hips. I am so excited to see it built-up.

Oh gosh! The Stryac is looking fantastic! I kinda like that yellow is a color reserved for younger animals. Or blue. Do blue on it's crest. <3

It would be indeed. I have a hole in my wrist that went though about 3 layers of skin thanks to him..should have figured a juvenile tyrannosaur wouldn't be easy to work with..lol

I'm going to try and finish up the Styrac tomorrow weather permitting, then finish adding the steel frame to the tyrannosaur.

The Styrac is a bit young.. I think I measured him at 13' so only 3' short of an adult specimen though.  That darn Spino robbed me of a lot of color choices...lol it's just about everything I have.  Blue..I have a juvenile Para with a blue crest already..have you seen her ?

Not exactly the best..it was the first one I made using this material I have..but she's cute enough..lol :)

Meso-Cenozoic

Just happened upon this pic, Chris, and thought of your Styrac for some possible color choices...

It has kind of a grey base color like yours and I thought the greenish-yellows and orangey-reds looked pretty cool on the shield.

Blade-of-the-Moon

Sweet pic ! I do like the color there..and the horns are more ivory looking than the brown/black combo you usually see. I've actually almost finished painting it though. It's really inspired by the paint work on Krentz's Styrac for Sideshow..but I did some tweaking..adding more color to the overall body.  Also came up with a neat way to make patterns for it...you'll see ! ;D

Meso-Cenozoic

You are sooooo fast! Yeah, I like the colors on the Sideshow too. That one also has the tarnished ivory-like horns if I'm remembering right. Anyway, can't wait to see what you've come up with! Good ol' Styraco is one of my favorite ceratopsians.
