Hi everyone! I've been following the blog and the forum for years, today I've decided to join and maybe share some of my occasional custom repaints.
My name is Federico and I'm from southern Italy, dinosaurs played a big role in my childhood, even if in my town there were not so many brands to choose from: mainly AAA, with their bizarre -outdated even for the '90- figures, Safari Carnegie and something from Bullyland, mainly the famous ice age serie.
I like to draw and I collect and paint fantasy miniatures, which led me to begin repainting dinosaur and animal figures which had a nice mould but hideous paintjobs.
Regards :D

EDIT: if the other users don't understand, i have said in the italian language:

"Welcome, i'm italian too!

Bigger than a camarasaurus,
and with a bite more stronger that the T-Rex bite,
Ticamasaurus is certainly the king of the Jurassic period.

With Balaur feet, dromaeosaurus bite, microraptor wings, and a terrible poison, the Deinoraptor Dromaeonychus is a lethal enemy for the most ferocious hybrid too.

Always nice to see new members here! I'm looking forward to seeing more of your custom works! :)
I'm seeking Orsenigo and other interesting vintage dinosaurs. Contact me if you can help with my search!

Look forward to seeing some of your drawings. I used to do colored pencil dinosaur drawings but I kind of quit because I didn't think it had much potential with digital art being the method for almost all modern paleoart.

"3,000 km to the south, the massive comet crashes into Earth. The light from the impact fades in silence. Then the shock waves arrive. Next comes the blast front. Finally a rain of molten rock starts to fall out of the darkening sky - this is the end of the age of the dinosaurs. The Comet struck the Gulf of Mexico with the force of 10 billion Hiroshima bombs. And with the catastrophic climate changes that followed 65% of all life died out. It took millions of years for the earth to recover but when it did the giant dinosaurs were gone - never to return." - WWD

Ah, you should never quit doing traditional art even if you think the digital art is the "modern" version everyone prefers. Art done by traditional medias can be as good, or even better as the digital form.

Thanks to everyone for the really warm welcome, I appreciate it a lot. And Copper is right, traditional and digital art can also be complementary! I often find more natural to start from a traditional sketch, then I clean it and refine it with digital methods.

To be fair, it's a matter of personal preference. While it's a bit self-defeating to stop using traditional media altogether if your only reason is that it's "not popular enough," there's nothing wrong with having a strong preference for digital media, and wanting to work mainly or exclusively with software. Anyway, it's a myth that digital art is vastly preferred over traditional art. It's far more prevalent on the internet since it's easier to upload, and it displays better on screen unless you have some high end photography or scanning device that will keep the fidelity of the original image intact, but don't confuse popularity on the internet due to ease of use with overall public bias.

I personally prefer the versatility of traditional media to digital, but I do use digital media, and I understand the pros and cons of both. I can respect the decision to work exclusively digital, however. It's more about what the artist feels comfortable with than any other factor. Choice of media is a very personal decision, and there are no wrong answers.
