I generally don't like all the "rebooting" that has gone on lately but JP could probably benefit from it. Up-to-date and accurate dinosaurs (and more of them) and maybe a story more like that of the book would both be welcomed.
I just watched JP a couple nights ago, probably the last time I'll watch it until the 3-D re-release here in the U.S. next year.  8) So excited for that! Should I go in costume?

Rebooting is a good idea when the series has become stale (like Spiderman) or just plain sucky (the Batman movies after Joel Schumacher had his fun them with them)
With a reboot there are fresh ideas and new directions can be taken. In general I think reboots are a good thing.
Jurassic Park was pretty much a movie of the 90s, why not reboot it and bring it into the 21st century? XD

I agree with you there but there are a lot of remakes we don't need out there and some movies that don't need to be remade. I'm sure we'll see a JP remake at some point in our lives. I just wish there were some more original ideas out there, those seem to be few and far between these days.

I just hope it actaully happens, and when it does it dosent taint the sacred water known as Jurrasic Park.

I hope its about the militarey on the Island,

the end of Jp3 showed them there at the end.

They better explain that in this coming film.

on a plus note NEW ACTION FIGURES

and possibly new cretures for Papo to rip off :))

I don't really like their figures any more, not since they went with Hasbro anyway. But yeah, I didn't think of that - Papo will likely release some really nice things in the future if there's another sequel! I'm still surprised there isn't a Dilophosaurus or Ceratosaurus yet.

I don't like most of the Hasbro toys either. I don't have any JP3 toys currently and there are very few that interest me.

I'm not so concerned about the military issue, what interests me are the pterosaurs we saw fly off the island in JP3 and the possibility of other animals somehow getting off the island.

I was never interested in JP toys. They always seem more like movie toys first and foremost, than replicas of dinosaurs.

I do like Papo though...my brain is a strange thing. Maybe because they're not explicitly labelled as JP toys. Plus many JP toys have cheesy gimmicks like that dino flesh wound thing.

I like the JP toys as well as Tyco purely for nostalgia, I either had them or wanted them as a kid. They are movie toys though.  I don't love JP3 so like you they don't interest me...those from the first two films do though. I don't really go out of my way for them though, if I happen across them I take them but aside from a few there are few JP toys I'm seeking out.

We're very much in the same boat. I have some from my childhood, though sadly, most of my collection ended up with my childhood friend. I did buy a few JP3 toys years later just for the sake of having them, but I think of them as toys, whereas my Safari's, Papo's, Collecta's etc. are 'replicas'. I never owned any of TLW toys either because by then I was a little older and had other things on my mind  ;D

I never had any TLW toys either, about the time the movie came out I was starting to get rid of all my toys but I still was young enough to enjoy the movie. The toys made for TLW are of a similar quality to the JP ones though. Those for JP3 just look cheap to me.

Yeah and the disregard for scale is another thing I don't like about JP3 toys.

I know, they're all about the same size. When Kenner made a Tyrannosaurus they really made a Tyrannosaurus, those toys were huge.

Exactly. They were at least relative to what we've seen in the films. It's kind of hard for a kid to pretend the Spinosaurus is frightening when there are basketball players bigger than him.

The Spinosaurus did get a large electronic figure...at least as big as some of the JP Rex toys though.

Metallisuchus

I don't recall seeing a huge Spinosaurus. Regardless of size though, the toys for JP1 were the best in my opinion.

Blade-of-the-Moon

I'll post a size comparison pic in a bit.

The first ones were the best though..mostly because they were FIRST.. ;D

Meh. Not excited.

On one hand, a reboot would be kinda pointless because the first movie pretty much covered all the cool things that could happen in a 'Jurassic Park' movie.  So all we'd be seeing is the same movie, only some of the dinosaurs are covered in fuzz so the director can pretend he had been paying attention to science news over the past decade. If its in the city, it would just be "Lost World done good".

On the other hand, a sequel is even more pointless; Jurassic Park's entire premise is just too out of touch with modern dinosaur knowledge to really warrant continuing. That aside there really isn't much left they can do with another sequel- they've got tiny predators, large raptors, and the two largest theropods already.

Plus, filmmaker's seem to have lost the art of subtlety these days. Jurassic Park 1 got it about right, simple straightforward action (dinosaurs chase people down paths or sneak up on them and kill them- simple, awesome) with the right dose of suspense, non-action and intrigue in between. What would we get these days? Endless overuse of CGI (insert cringe-worthy scene where a bunch of kids scurrying between the legs of a flock of Quetzquatlus while they try to peck them to death but their beaks never quite reach them- snore).

Of course, if that awful writer from Rise of the Planet of the Apes is involved, I'd simply boycott it.
I'd only be missing a dull dreary movie that eclectically can't decide if it wants to be a lighthearted family movie, a silly whimsical action movie, a jarring bloody horror or some preachy political movie that insults your intelligence but never actually has a message. And possibly a glaring plothole or two. Jurassic Park managed to combine these elements quite nicely with the right amount of subtlety and intensity  (the only plothole I remember was the T-Rex somehow sneaking inside the museum), while Rise of the Apes felt more like a bunch of Disney movies and the Saw films crudely stitched together.
Plus, I'd feel dirty rewarding that man for demonizing three endangered ape families with another movie ticket, I might as well be sponsoring a poacher or two >:(

I agree pretty much with what you said here. Jurassic Park was a relic of the 90s, and while it was awesome while it lasted, it should be left to die.

The original Jurassic Park has quite a few plot holes actually. The most glaring would be the moat that suddenly appears in the tyrannosaur paddock. Jurassic Park was actually pretty poorly received by critics at the time, aside from seeing realistic dinosaurs there was little praise for the rest of the movie. Basically, critics said the same thing about Jurassic Park as they do about CGI laden movies today. I loved it of course but it probably helps that I was a nine year old dinosaur nut when it came out. All Jurassic Park 4 would need to make me happy is dinosaurs, I just want to see movies with dinosaurs in them. Few of the dinosaur movies ever made were truly all that good, most were B movies, Jurassic Park was probably the best. If JP4 can show me more dinosaur action I'll be pleased because aside from bird watching movies are the only thing that can deliver live action dinosaurs.
As for "Rise", I thought it was an excellent movie and only one ape species was demonized (it was humans). Seriously, they did a good job at giving the apes a good reason to rebel against humanity but the apes didn't even do that, they just wanted to be free. How many humans were actually killed by the apes? The humans in the film killed the humans...with the disease they created which simultaneously increased the intelligence of the apes and paved the way for their takeover. Maybe we didn't watch the same movie? Anyway, when I saw it everyone cheered for the apes, the lead chimpanzee was portrayed as a very likeable character you could empathize with. I think the real primates of the world have other things to worry about besides a science fiction movie that real poachers probably haven't even heard of.

For all the idolisation that the original film gets, it is still a summer blockbuster type of movie. What made it more memorable that most summer blockbusters was that, aside from the revolutionary CGI work, it was a well made film with very memorable scenes: the T. rex attack, the Dilophosaurus, raptors in the kitchen, and the Brachiosaurus, amongst others.

That's actually an issue I have with JPIII, because in some parts it redoes parts from the original (such as the Spinosaurus foot slamming into the ground the same way the T. rex foot did, with the same camera angle and everything), but it really doesn't make those moments work. Okay, so it's neat to see references to the original film, but since JPIII is not nearly as well made as the original, they just felt trite to me.
